Maybe the Templars have something to do with all this.  Or NASA.

I've been reading a thread on Gamefaqs (yuck! but this thread is full of nice people) where folks are so desperate for Dragon Quest VII 3DS that they'll take anything as possible proof.  Apparently Reggie once replied to a tweet saying he'd love to see more Dragon Quest in the US.  They take this as basically confirmation that DQVII is coming.  But Reggie also tweeted something about Mother 3, which I doubt will ever happen (it's a GBA game).

I guess I am just using this to suggest Nintendo has little idea what it's doing.  Or the Templars are in control.  Or NASA.

There's enough of a userbase, especially after Zelda and Pokemon this holiday season, that they could do a small print run and put it on the eShop and DQ7 would do just fine. DQ9 was one of my favorite DS games, and the remakes of 4-5 were great too (couldn't get into DQ6 for some reason).

Maybe Square-Enix is waiting to see if they move forward with DQ10 online, so that they could use DQ7 to build hype. Given that the Wii U is under-performing, they probably aren't too enthusiastic about localizing it.

I was just on Nintendo's Japanese site looking at the list of Wii U games (or at least all the ones on the Japanese eShop).  I think one reason the Wii U isn't doing so well in Japan is because there aren't any good games.  I think the US Wii U selection might actually be superior.  What's the deal with consoles launching with very few good games, and even a year after release, so little?  This happened with the 3DS, too, but now look at it, ruling the market.

Anyway, neither here nor there.  I agree that even pessimistically speaking, DQVII should do decently.  I guess unless something is going to be phenomenal, they don't want to bother, though.  I can't even remember the last DQ that Square Enix did themselves.  VIII on the PS2, I guess.  So VII would be up to Nintendo, and they can really only do so much.  But I sure hope they do all they can.  (Personally, I think they should just hire more translation teams and bring over and publish more stuff themselves.  Even if all they did was break even, so what?  They'd be creating loyalty.)

But, as I've said so many times... Nintendo makes no sense.

Senran Kagura Burst has been released on the eShop. How did that slip under the radar?
It's not a deal. :) I bought it the day it was released and thought about mentioning it. What can I say; I love a good side-scrolling beat'em up. This one is a bit, uhhh, different from what I'm used to, but I like it. (I loved Kenka Bancho on PSP, too, which I thought was underrated.)

I would like to pick up Link's Awakening, and maybe the other Zelda games on sale. Is there a way I can do it without a 3DS, like how you can do it on the Sony systems through PS3, browser, or mobile app?

I do have a Wii U, but my Zelda 3DS XL doesn't get here until November 22, by which time this sale will be over?

The entirety of the whole Zelda series can be played on 3DS and Wii U (or Wii, for that matter). Kind of crazy to think about.

Those N64 Zeldas have not aged well graphically, though. :) I hope we see that remake of Majora's Mask everyone talks about, because it's the only one I've never finished now. (Oh, that's a lie--haven't played the DS ones yet.)
I was actually surprised that the 3DS version looked better than I remembered. I'm not sure if they did anything to it graphically or it's just the better resolution and cleaner textures. Either way the gameplay still holds up.

I think we've established that they need to do a lot of things with the eShop, as they've got several potential avenues for money (SNES, GBA, DS) that they should be pushing towards instead of dinking around with NES games that don't always look so good on the 3DS' small screen.
Well yeah but your list reminded me of that in particular.

I think they may have actually added textures in general. I'm not sure how much texture the original had. It mostly just looks like really big polygons with eyes and mouths slapped on them, for instance. I think the 3DS version underwent a lot of surgery. Still, I was surprised at the way objects pop-in at Kokiri Forest. It's not terrible, but it's noticeable. I had to wonder if that was a limitation of the original or if it's a limitation of the 3DS. (Hopefully not the latter.)

Anyway, yeah, the 3DS version looks pretty great. I think the Gamecube version of Ocarina (not the eShop version) was up-rezzed and a few other things, but it was still hideous.

It's funny, cause when Ocarina first came out, gosh, I thought it was the best-looking, most amazing thing ever. N64 3D has aged exceedingly poorly. (Paper Mario still looks great, though!)

Yeah they completely redid most of the textures and character models for the 3DS OOT and added more detail to the environments. There are some good comparison shots here http://www.siliconera.com/2011/04/21/lets-compare-the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-n64-and-3ds/

Wow!  I'm actually surprised how decent the original looks in those shots.  (I was wrong; it definitely has textures!)  Of course, they're really small screenshots...

I was going to play Majora's Mask on the VC eventually, but I figure I'll save it til last in my odyssey, just in case they really do remake it.  I struggled for years trying to replay Ocarina.  Although I guess I still haven't replayed it!  I've been about 5 hours in, perpetually, since I got a 3DS (started over several times, the latest of which was a few weeks ago, hoping to finish before A Link Between Worlds came out, but I obviously have a long way to go).

See, you're not even to the parts where OOT gets really amazing.

Yeah, it's upsetting! And now I feel like I'd just be rushing. So I guess I'll just stop, yet again, and start over for the billionth time in the last 15 years, after I've played A Link Between Worlds. Depressing.
Just play it. You are missing out.

Also, I'm amazed at how much better OoT 3DS looks...haven't played the N64 in many years, since maybe 2000?

I guess I could play OoT and Link Between Worlds simultaneously. I just want to be sure to play the new one as soon as it comes out, lest I spend 15 years restarting that one over and over too and never finishing.

Don't even worry about the new one. Just play OoT. It's tried and true. People absolutely go ape shit over that game. It's a great one, there's no doubt. Why keep restarting? Just play it, you will not regret it one bit.

One of my biggest problems with games is that I often get distracted by other games. It doesn't necessarily have any bearing on the quality of a game, just a trait I unfortunately possess. So I start something, will sometimes get distracted by something else (sometimes not even a game), and then when it comes time to come back to the game I started, I have no idea where I am or what I was doing.

It's been a project for me to replay all the Zelda games in release order (roughly). I started Link to the Past in February, but got distracted. Luckily, I somehow managed to pick it back up (from the ice dungeon) and finish it in October, then plowed through Link's Awakening.

Anyway, I started OoT, was really enjoying it, and got distracted (and obsessed) by the Assassin's Creed series of all things. Had planned to finish OoT for sure, if not also Oracle of Ages/Seasons, in time to play the new one when it came out.

Oh well! This is life with some mild form of OCD.

DOH! I forgot noontime was the cutoff to buy the zelda games on sale

Five of them were free and the Oracles were on sale, so that's a good haul for maybe $6 or $8 total. I even have a physical copy of Ocarina of Time, though I lost the case for it. :whistle2:(
Frisky, If you're willing to pay shipping, I have an extra case (in very good shape). PM me if you're interested.

It would be nice if there were other developers/publishers that wanted to put their games on sale besides the same few that do that every few weeks.

It's sort of annoying. They often release games at midnight, yet the eShop updates at noon. Makes little sense.
They've updated the store for sales and most releases at the same time for several years now. Occasionally, big new releases get a midnight release.

I do have to apologize for leaving the time that the eShop updates out of the title last week. I made sure to add it today so nobody can forget.

In for at least one of the Mega Man games. Finally something worth while on sale from the 3Shop. Nintendo needs to work on that, though an account system is needed before I buy anything of value digitally.

Man, I'm still waiting on a Cave Story sale.

Right there with you. Totally unacceptable at this point, but at least they're trying to improve...though it still appears to be a struggle.

I think I'll pick up MM4. Thanks guys! Are any of the other ones worth buying? I still plan to buy Shantae and Risky's Revenge and I have around ~$26ish left from the free $30 credit to use.

Ended up getting the only Mega Man I was missing, the first one.  Kind of sucks they didn't have the remaining NES MM titles and GB title on sale though, for those that don't have them.

MM1 has not aged well IMO, especially Dr. Wily's stages. Mega Man has always been difficult, but MM1 is hard due to design flaws. 2-4 are more appropriately challenging in their own right, although the shadow boss levels before Wily's Castle in MM3 are so brutal that I have trouble going back to that game. MM4 was a sweet spot for me, plenty challenging but more forgiving and modern in it's level design. Plus, the Mega Buster was introduced in MM4.

I really wish they'd release a compilation of the old games with updated graphics, similar to Maverick Hunter X or the Genesis 'Wily Wars':

MM2 was my all time favorite out of the series on the NES.
This.

So I Log in to buy a digital copy of the new Zelda and see that Nintendo ended the series sale yesterday? Can't say I understand that, may have picked up oracles and the other one. Going to hold out for the Mario sale now to burn credit.

They only last a week. that's why it's Mega Man now instead. :)

The Oracle games unfortunately weren't on sale. It was just Zelda, Zelda II, and Link's Awakening.

2 or 3 if you can pick only one.  I think 4 is pretty good, but 2&3 are the best out of the available titles.  1 really pales in comparison to the others in the series (still good though).

CColor me corrected. Yeah I know they were for a week only, just thought the timing was odd.
Game Boy Color you corrected! Anyway, yeah, it is strange timing. I'd be running this show differently, I would! I'd call it the HEY THE NEXT FREAKING AWESOME ZELDA GAME IS COMING SOON, SO BUY THE OTHERS NOW sale, and I'd put up videos of weirdoes talking about how they're going to play every Zelda game in order, and then I'd put in some boobs (just joking about the boobs).

And I would have had all the Zeldas on sale, even Wind Waker HD ($5 off or something), and definitely Ocarina, which should be $30 max on the eShop at this point, and I'd have made Minish Cap and Four Swords free again.

But as I've said so many times, Nintendo makes no sense.

Maybe Nintendo didn't want to diminish all the tumbleweeds blowing past the Wii U. We've just established that I am a marketing wizard. I could market the hell out of the Wii U. And Frisky could post about it. The world would turn upside-down.

Anyone remember what the DLC was priced at last time? I'd like the two (I think two) that add content to the game, but I'm not interested in the stuff to level up faster. (I don't think...??)

Frisky, I'm considering a $99 2DS from Walmart. I'm not interested in buying physical games for it and would be shopping from the 3DS eShop exclusively. Can you tell me if it has most games available for it like PSN does for Vita? Are the sales comparable to PS+ prices? Thanks.
