Ugh. Lukewarm sale means choose one. If they were 50% off I'd buy the set.

Do I just start with 2, assuming it's the better one with the new fire hose mechanic?

Is the Wii U eshop down for anyone else?
Yeah both the 3DS and Wii U eshops are down.

I really hope Nintendo consolidates both eshops if only to be able to view both sales in one thread on CAG.

I get why there's two threads, but it's a pain in the ass to toggle between threads when there's a single PSN thread for all sales PS3, PS4, Vita, PSP etc.

combined with eshop card discount from BB, that's like 40%. Not quite 50% but is it really worth wondering which one of the two you should get (and if you've made the right choice) over a $1? (ok, $1.38 to be precise)

Yeah, I can't get on the eShop either. :(

I'm having trouble getting onto the eShop on my 3ds. This might be a good thing. I'm wanting to buy Etrian Odyssey IV but something is making me have second thoughts. I've played the demo and enjoyed it. I think it's the fact that the game isn't very story-driven.

Edit: It looks like The Millennium Girl might be more up my alley. Is $30 a good price point?
If you enjoyed the EOIV demo but wanted more story, I think you'll really like Millennium Girl, and personally, I'd jump at it for $30. I'd also get EOIV, though, if I were you. Gosh I loved that game. It does have a fair amount of story and got me emotionally involved at points, and that soundtrack, man oh man.

Weird. I just got onto the eShop.

If you have the EOMG coupon for BBY that's the best but the sale price with another 20% off from an eShop card isn't bad either. A lot more story in MG.

Also I forgot how unforgiving Cave Story is but it's still lots of fun.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Unfortunately I let my GCU sub lapse until recently so I missed out in the coupon. I'm going to bite on Millennium Girl for now. Merry Christmas to all!

My subscription had expired so no coupons. I also missed out on $20 MG on Amazon. eShop seems to be down maybe because kids and some adults got new 3DS for Christmas. I got a $50 card from BB and I'm getting Devil Survior Unlocked. Can you guys give me any recommendations?

I really wanted to buy stuff but bleh.. the store went down when I was redeeming my prepaid code... now my $20 is used when the balance is not added...

Hang on to that card. You can probably get in touch with Nintendo if the balance never shows up, or maybe take it back to the store. I think it'll show up tho. The eShop being down is annoying. It's still down today.

Check out what's on sale now (you can do this within the eShop under the coins thing too), then do a little Googling. As a general comment from me, though, get the whole Atlus library that's on sale. :) The only really weak one is Code of Princess, and I still really like that one. You're in for a treat with Devil Survivor. I think you should get EOIV, too, at least.

Merry Christmas! You're going to love it, no matter what the price. $30 is still darn good, especially with the BB card. I paid $40 and would have paid $50... :) Some games are worth shelling out for.

eShop sales really make up for the weaker recent ones. $20 is my sweet spot for handheld exclusives except for certain ports and extremely cheap games. Happy that I get to make up for missing on EO:IV and SMT:SH (and can buy SMT:DS for $20) when they were on sale a while ago.

I'm looking at some indies too, although the 3DS is my very last choice for multiplat indie games

I'm kind of mad at this recent rash of sales on the 3DS, all this money was earmarked for WiiU to go towards the Digital Deluxe promo.  Guess I'll get the enhanced version of Mighty Switch Force on WiiU at least so I get that towards it.

I enjoyed playing The Adventures of Link, though not as much as the original game. I'm guessing that people did not enjoy the 2d scrolling part of the game. The concept of using mana/magic was a little awkward too, but nothing gamebreaking about it.
It's an okay game, it's very different from the other games in the series. It's a fun time to play the game and will be GREAT to play with the save state feature haha

I may get flamed for this, but I (personally)think everything before A Link to the Past is grossly overrated.

Nintendo putting things on sale nearly every day here lately is pretty surprising... But very much welcome. Nice to see them finally starting to catch up.

So.. you basically think The Legend of Zelda and Zelda 2 are overrated?

My only problem with Zelda 2 is the difficulty, particularly the design decisions that artificially inflate the difficulty level. I don't know if it was sloppy design, deliberate torture, or wanting to stretch the game out. Other aspects of it are pretty brilliant.

Personally, I think even A Link to the Past is overrated. Awesome, awesome game, but still overrated. It, too, along with Link's Awakening, have some really questionable design issues. The real travesty isn't the design issues but that Nintendo doesn't do some proper remakes or sequels to Zelda 1 and 2 the way they did 3.

And Link's Awakening, though technically it came out a year afterwards in NA.

Don't get me wrong, Zelda is my most loved franchise in all of gaming... I've played them all. For some reason I just hate some of the early games - it's super hard for me to get into them... Even when I do I find them boring.

Apparently Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate or whatever it's called for 3DS is $20 on the eShop again.  Not that I'd know since I haven't been able to get onto the eShop for days.

I wonder if the Wii U version is $20 again, too?

You can't be serious.

It's a travesty?

It's been over 20 years since Nintendo did a sequel to Link to the Past and they just now released one last month.

You want Nintendo rehashing Zelda games every single year?

I'm more of a 3D Zelda guy myself, but I realize how unrealistic this expectation is.

I swear people will complain about just about anything, but alas that is the internet for you. :baby:

If you want a remake of The Legend of Zelda, check out 3D Dot Game Heroes on the PS3. It's basically a clone/remake/homage to that game with some craziness like wielding a giant, screen-filling sword when you're health is full.

You're being sensitive. I was saying they're good games with some flaws. I wasn't complaining. I would love a "New Legend of Zelda," in the same kind of sense as the New Super Mario Bros. games, and I'd love anything done in the style of Zelda 2 without the extreme difficulty.

I swear people will get offended about just about anything, but alas that is the internet for you. Merry Christmas just the same though

Yeah, fantastic game! I think Japan got a sequel as well, but sadly it did not sell in the West. I go crazy for stuff like that though. I would love a Vita sequel, even just a re-release with some added stuff (or... even just a re-release).

Actually, no sequel was ever made. The studio did move on to make another little game... called Bravely Default.

tempting... maybe I should get this instead of physical. hmm. but eShop is down. lol

I never got to really play any Zelda past the original.  I did get to watch my cousin play A link to the past, but I didn't get to own a SNES until I was a little too old to care.  I have really been after the latest Zelda and have high hopes.

Nintendo is all kinds of flakey right now.  E-shops up & down, Club Nintendo is bonkers slow, and I got an E-mail from them saying happy whatever for being a fan with a link to the top games of 2013.  I click the link to not be surprised and it can't access the page.

Definitely not a good time to register, redeem, or purchase anything right now.

At least your able to sign into club nintendo, I keep getting a message that my account is deactivated...

I just got my 3ds for Christmas (well technically for my daughter but you know...) any advise of which of these games to pick up for someone fresh to the system?

It's never too late! I've been going through them all again. I played through the first four, am now playing the new one, and will then go back to Ocarina and continue from there. (Or maybe I'll skip to the new Wind Waker first.) The first four Zeldas really gave me a bit of rage, though, I have to admit, particularly Zelda 2. I was surprised by how frustrating I found parts of 3 and 4. Don't remember that from my youth, only remember the good times.

Take that shit away and buy her her own. Anyway, your question is beyond the scope I'm willing to post at the moment, cause holy crow are there a lot of good games. (almost) anything with Mario in the title is great; anything with Zelda in the title is. What kinds of games do you like? If you like RPGs, buy everything Atlus has on sale right now.

Planned on picking up both Zelda games, and some of the mario stuff, but wanted to make sure I didn't miss any of the more obscure stuff that may fly under the radar. I love a good RPG, especially SRPG, anything from the Atlus sale worth picking up?

Devil Survivor Overclocked might be a good fit then. If you like dungeon crawlers with a side of cartography the Etrian Odyssey games are excellent, Millenium Girl has a heavier helping of story than IV on top of that formula. Crimson Shroud is a sort of table top RPG experiment thing from the guy who created Final Fantasy Tactics. Project X Zone is an SRPG as well but try the demos on the eShop first. It's very... weird and I hated it at first but playing the demos each time it went on sale it grew on me until I finally picked it up last week. Of course now I can't find the video of Bruce Willis hitting a guy with a grandfather clock that really sells it.

Never played an EO game, can I just jump in with MG?
Yes, that's entirely the point. It's basically an entirely redone version of the first game with a whole narrative and animation and junk added on. Basically they went let's take the first game and make it again the engine from EO IV and make it more accessible to newcomers.

In addition to the great advice given above, I'd suggest getting Fire Emblem: Awakening. Don't even worry whether it's on sale or not. I don't know if you'll like that or Overclocked better, but I think one or both will blow your mind.

I second this. There is an eshop demo if you're on the fence, but it's a fantastic game. I play on casual mode (don't judge me) which makes it very accessible to newcomers. I still get po'd when one of my guys dies though.

Ghost recon shadow wars is also similar to Awakening and you can pick it up for cheap since it was a launch title.

Yeah, Shadow Wars is about as close as you can get (unfortunately) to X-COM on a handheld game console.

I play Fire Emblem on casual, too. Nice thing about it is that you can play (and replay) it so many ways.  I could never stand when one of my units permanently died, though, so in past Emblem games I was constantly restarting, and that wasn't fun.  I prefer to just play this way, enjoy myself, and not trigger OCD.

Funny! I didn't know that! I wonder what else he's done since.
The last game he worked on prior to Shadow Wars was Assassin's Creed III: Liberation as a creative director. Soon, he's going to start a Kickstarter for the remake of Chaos: The Battle of Wizards titled Chaos Reborn in February 2014.
