I remember getting really far in Adventure, and getting stuck because I didn't have some stupid item I needed to progress. It was extremely disappointing :(
Yeah, I played the HELL out of Adventure. I even picked up Sword of Mana, the GBA remake, but I never actually got around to playing it. Heard it wasn't as good anyway. Would buy FFA in a heart beat if they released it.

And yeah, that game was unforgiving. The first playthrough I was in the last dungeon, probably a few floors away from the final boss. And I ran out of keys. I think I needed like 1 or 2 more to make it to the end of the game. And once you got into the last dungeon, you couldn't exit it either - and of course I had saved in the last dungeon. So I literally had no other recourse than to start the entire damn thing over.

Thankfully, it was worth playing again. And it's one of the few games whose main theme I can recall almost instantly at will. Such a good theme song...

Sorry, Frisky. I should have known better.

how long has it been since you turned your 3ds on. Could be worse, could have 4 little kids screaming they want to watch the WWE PPV when you have not had the ps3 hooked up for a month and it had to download like 3 updates and took almost 25 mins. The horror the horror. :)
Well, it was Money in the Bank, well worth watching. I think the 3DS has been about a month, but I always have issues downloading updates. Says an error occurred, start over, and it picks up where the download left off. Depending on the update, it could take 5-7 attempts. Now I bought Inazuma, and that won't download. Ugh.

Damn, may have to get EO Millennium Girl. I have the "CE" version still sealed... But, the question is, will I actually play it? I'd definitely get EO IV but I have actually played that one. I would recommend that to anyone on the fence about it.

Yeah, I gave in and picked up EOU for $15. I'm in the middle of a game on my cartridge, but have been wanting it on my system full time - it's pretty much my default game. Really enjoying it. I just wish the games weren't quite SO long - I'm still halfway through a run on EOII, and haven't touched my copies of EOIII or EOIV. And when the next one comes out, I'll pick that one up too.

I do appreciate the inclusion of the story mode in EOU - the fixed party and actual storyline/personalities makes for an easier game to stay interested in. I've been working on my EOII game for years, and it just gets to be a slog after a while, and then I end up taking a few months break before picking it back up again.

Just checking, since you probably already know--but there is an "app" thing on the eShop that lets you get the save data off a cartridge and put it on your SD card to use with the eShop version of the same game. (again, you probably know this, but in case you don't...)

I had no idea there was such a thing. Granted it wouldn't have been something I would have needed yet, though my son did start Pokémon X and then I got him the digital version through that 3DS XL promo. I don't think he was very far into the cart version though. Still, nice to know. I'm not sure how the average person would know about this. I consider myself above average in terms of video game knowledge and this was news to me!

I remember them announcing it in some Direct stream, though I'm not sure exactly when it came out. It was definitely after they started putting out retail stuff on the eShop, as they needed to address the lack of a way to transfer saves.

i say if your going to get it Play it till you beat it. Never play it and then leave to play something else. or you will never go back.

i got either IV or EO got up to chapter 5 and never went back. the other game i had like 20 hours into it sold it , got it back at half the price but just could never get into Replaying the game to get to where i was.

I think later this week i will try to start one or the other ones back up since

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 has been pushed back to unknown (last place holder is late aug but that is still a place holder.)

if i dont get these started soon i dont see ever starting them before end of year due to fact

JULY OPEN (maybe one piece getting it tomorrow via gamefly)

AUG DIsgaea 4 vita Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed

SEPT NAtURAL DOCtRINE

OCT Fantasy Life

NOV Pokemon Omega Ruby and Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth

DEC see NOV

We're finally getting Fantasy Life???

Does this mean we're getting Dragon Quest VII and Youkai Watch and stuff too I hope???
Youkai Watch I bet we get....DQVII....I don't know if NOA is still doing publishing for S-E games....S-E are the ones poking on that decision.

Nintendo is straight up trolling right now. Bases Loaded on both the 3DS and Wii U. The third straight week, at least, where the VC releases have been the same on both platforms? And still no cross buy? Getouttahere.

Yeah, id be happy with paying an extra $1.00 or something kinda like they do with the Wii Shop to Wii U eShop upgrades. Maybe it will happen one day. No Pokemon TCG VC either, lame.

Yeah, I can't believe how Nintendo is still so far behind the times when it comes to cross buy functionality. They need to keep up with the competition.

Everyone ready for the flood of confusion the next time Cave Story+ or Cave Story 3D go on sale on the eShop?

I know this is for eshop deals but just thought I'd point out the B1G1 sale BBY is having next week for 3DS games. I'll probably trade in Pokemon and pick up Braverly Default. At least I'd play it more.

I totally appreciate the heads up as I had no idea of this sale. This saved me a wasted trip to Target tomorrow to try to use the Cartwheel coupon to get Kirby.

I still think I'll pick up EO Untold from this sale though...

Yeah that BBY deal is better all around. Assuming you have GCU it's probably better anyway.

So what's the consensus (heh, as if that's possible) on Etrian 4 vs. Etrian Untold? I rented one of these (or an older one i nthe series) and enjoyed the mapmaking/filling out idea. Anything that puts one of these games head and shoulders above the other?

IV is going to be easier and more approachable to newcomers and Untold is going to have Story mode. I'd recommend jumping in with IV, and if you like it, go for Untold.

My recommendation is exactly the opposite, in fact, especially for newcomers to plot-lite/plotless dungeon crawlers. EOU's story mode is actually pretty easy compared to most EO games at the same relative difficulty levels--no doubt because the pre-made party balance is so good--and it gives you more meat to latch on to if you aren't accustomed to playing this sort of game without some kind of plot hook--so for a relative newcomer to the subgenre, I'd say jump in with EOU, and if the gameplay gets you hooked, go all in on EOIV.

If you're already used to that sort of dungeon crawler, however, and are just worried about difficulty and content, I'd put them on roughly the same footing with regards to difficulty, and give the content advantage to EOIV (though the option to go through EOU with either story mode or classic mode gives it a higher replay advantage, I'd say).

Wondering the same thing. Conflicting opinions on this all over the internet haha and even here on CAG already it appears!

Wow, I didn't know some people thought IV was better for beginners.  For my money, Untold is a pretty great entry point.  IV is a little less direction.  There is still plenty of direction, though, and if you get confused about party mechanics, you can check the internet, and you can always reboot your characters and reassign their skills for little penalty.

It's really hard to go wrong with either one.  Just buy both.  :)  My own opinion would be start with Untold, and my secret hope would be that you'd buy IV as well and enjoy that sometime after Untold.

I'd agree with this as well. Not to mention having the prebuilt party in story mode saves you from having to figure out which classes to use, and how to spec those classes. Always gets a little overwhelming for me, and I always wonder if I could be doing things better somehow.

Oh CAG, I knew this would happen. I'll just have to toy both demos and go from there.

Story Mode? So, one of them has no story? You're just like, "hey, map these dungeons! Great job! There's another one."

I'm not sure how good of an indicator this is, but I tried the demo for iv and it starts with you creating a party and sends you to a map to start navigating the dungeon. No explanation or anything. So if you like games that just get straight to it, you'd like that it has no story.

I bought both since I was able to get the first print runs for a good price, but I haven't played either....

I bought both Etrian Odyssey games when they were $20, and I gotta say Untold is much better for beginners. IV is good too, but you gotta start with Untold. Untold has story mode and a more in-depth auto-map option, but both have difficulty sliders. If it makes any difference to you, Untold is a remake of the first game too.

I was torn about this game at full price, wanting to support it but thinking it was a bit pricey. If it had been this price at launch, I would have gone for it.

So... why is it that I am now thinking "I'll keep waiting and it'll go cheaper!"

I will just grab it to support it and to support price drops. Solidarity.

hopefully some good sale this week cause the 2   games coming out     have no interest in either

some comic book maker and some   fighter jet game

Spent a bit of time w/ both Etrian demos. Looks like Untold was the one I was playing before (I think I downloaded them the last time they were both on sale. Probably for $20 or something.) I like the story stuff that I remember from Untold, so that's probably what I'll buy.

I played EO IV a while ago - the thing about that game is that I wasn't entirely sure I completed it or not . I mean, I think I did with just some optional stuff left over, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have a question about that game save transfer utility. Does it let you transfer your game save off a cart and then back on to a different cart? Or is it only for cart-to-digital transfers? I was thinking of trading one game (Bravely Default) in to Gamestop and then picking them it again during the Best Buy B1G1 sale since I need a fourth game. But of course I only want to do this if my dozens of hours of gameplay save can transfer off the cart and on to the new one!

Edit, never mind, won't work (from Nintendo's web site):
•Save data can only be transferred from the retail version of software to the downloadable version. You cannot transfer save data from the downloadable version of software to the retail version, and you cannot transfer save data between two copies of the retail version of software.
I'll either pick something else up or wait to see if the value holds till next Sunday - though I was going to just have the Best Buy games shipped...

Apparently the $20 sale price worked out pretty well for them - did the job for me.

They're not that progressive with the save transfer stuff, so it's only useful for switching to a digital copy.

IV added a lot of the features that Untold picked up and expanded upon. The whole point of Untold was a remake of the first game that would have greater accessibility to appeal to a wider audience and those that got into the series at IV.

Yeah, but Untold is a LOT more difficult and more or less all inclusive in its one labyrinth. IV has the airship for exploration, different areas, and different dungeons and labyrinths. I'm not saying IV doesn't have a plot or a story; it does - it's just a lot more reading than Untold's new forced story mode. I can understand what some people are saying about having a pre-made party being easier, but for anyone who actually likes RPGs or is familiar with party-making in the slightest, it's not bad having the freedom to create whatever party you want. Also, IV has sub-classing which is a lot more accessible than using Untold's Grimoire stones for class expansion purposes. It also doesn't matter that Untold is the first title, as none of the EOs are connected and you can play any of them without needing to play any previous games.

I can see where people are coming from and that my opinion seems to be getting fleeced as the unpopular one, but I still feel like IV is the best starting place. That being said, there are demos of both in the eShop that continue your progress into the full game for newcomers to play both and decide which they like best. I believe they are both worth owning, so please don't think I'm favoring or discrediting either.

EDIT: Also, you have things mixed up. Untold is the game that picked up and improved on things that IV introduced. Untold is basically the first game with all the new features/mechanics that IV added.

I think you're right, just from the way the first part was was worded, I thought you were saying Untold came before IV. My mistake.

You do realize that Untold allows you to play in a story mode or a classic mode (make your own party, barebones story, etc.), right?

While you can only have one save at a time (seriously, Atlus, what the hell?), it's not like if you buy Untold, you're forced to play "baby's first RPG"--and it's not like there isn't plenty of character building possible in story mode, either.

EOIV gives you a lot of options, and a lot to explore; that's great, but if you're new to this kind of game, that kind of micromanagement can be a headache to deal with. EOU gives you a lot of the same options and ability to explore, though it's on a slightly smaller scale, if you want them.

Oh CAG, I knew this would happen. I'll just have to toy both demos and go from there.

Story Mode? So, one of them has no story? You're just like, "hey, map these dungeons! Great job! There's another one."
Pretty much, yeah. I mean, there's a world to explore and you get little breadcrumbs about its history and society as you play, but you basically nailed the premise.

I really want Mighty Switch Force 2 to go on sale...

Edit: Nevermind, I'll just buy the game so it goes on sale for everyone else. That has been my luck lately.
