I'm just glad you can download the patch today. It's going to be slow enough downloading the game itself, having to download the patch too would be extra irritating.

Ended up cancelling my Best Buy preorder of Smash and I'll be getting it digitally. This is one of those games I want to keep around on my 2DS, and I'm pretty anxious to play it early.

I think I'm going digital. Me and my friends played Melee for 10 years... might as well always have it on me.

FYI SSB3DS is 2.1GB, or about 17,000 blocks. I had to delete some things but I'll re-DL once I get a bigger SD card.

 
Oh my god, 2.1 gigs, that means I'd be like 14 gigs from filling up my 32 gb card after the 7 other 3ds games I have, if I wasn't getting the physical version.

Online is pretty awesome, I've only lagged in two matches and I can't help but question the circumstance as to why. In the first match the guy was playing Samus (Not Zero Suit Samus) and the match stuttered and lagged the whole time. The second match I played at least 9 games with another guy and finally he picked Samus and the match was full of massive lag.

Can't help but wonder if something is wrong with her.

Favorite character is Little Mac. Least favorite out of the new ones so far is Rosalina

 
Loving the shit out of this game so far. Especially the tweaks to older characters. Lots of them feel way more viable and more powerful.

Also the new additions are awesome. I just can't wait for the WiiU version, I'm scared of breaking my XL

Instead of giving me a block total as to the free space I need, they use MB. Then when you download, its only blocks. Consistency cannot be this hard to attain.

That makes way to much sense^, and sadly "N" hasn't had any in a very long time, so this is as good as it gets.

 
The new system update that adds themes is available now. There are also five free basic themes you can use.

I'm sort of annoyed that the basic themes are just colors and not even a full palette.  How about green?  Gonna end up buying one while it's novel.  :/

It seems like I have more space on the screen now for my hoarded games.  I like that.  I also like that there is now a shortcut to settings.  So how come do I still have a "settings" icon?  Now I have to hide it in a folder or put it all the way at the end, or it'll annoy me.   :)

Edit:  My God the theme shop is slow.  It is enough to drive one to purchase a New 3DS.  $2 for the good themes seems steep.  $1 for the lame themes seems steep (you'd think they'd be free).  I bought the Zelda theme, though, and I agree the hanafuda theme looks like it would be super cool.  The jumping Mario them looks neat, but with all the icons I have on my screen, I wouldn't even see Mario.

Trying out the Zelda theme now.  Will report in one sec.  As I wait for my Theme Collection to slowly load...

Okay, got it.  I am a bit disappointed.  It is just an image and a looping Zelda song.  I wish I could have heard the song and seen the image before purchase.  A few sound effects and new icons.

One thing I don't like is that they are clearly designed with scrolling in mind.  In other words, scrolling between menu screens.  However, I have mine set up with folders to keep my massive hoard all on the FIRST screen.  This means I'm stuck seeing this ugly wall rather than Link or Zelda or anything.  I guess I could scroll to the third screen where Link is and put all my icons on there.

Anyway, not real pleased. And I can see these getting boring fast.  Guess I should have stuck with the BLACK theme or bought the hanafuda.

If I wanted this, I'd have to move all my icons over here to the third screen and probably have to scroll to it whenever I booted up.

If you continue scrolling, it just repeats.  Speaking of repeat, that Zelda song repeating, over and over.  I should have saved my money for an 8-bit theme I guess.

Well that's entirely discouraging.

Kind of surprised no one's been talking about Smash in here, guess everyone's been too busy playing it.

 
I'm not a fan of a lot of the themes. I prefer solid colors in the background, not relatively nice pictures obscured by icons. (Felt the same way with PSP/Vita/PS3 themes too. Just a personal preference). That said, I hope some bonus themes hit once in a while, like unlocked in game or similar. Otherwise, I think it's just a distraction from other things Nintendo could have been working on but haven't (Like say, more Puzzle Swap puzzles, or just more things in the Streetpass Plaza in general)

 
Yeah, I'd love it if themes were just bonuses and unlockables in games.  How cool would that be?  I can understand their need/desire to make money, but unlockable themes would be so much cooler.

And a green theme.  In Japan, green and blue are the same color, so maybe that's why there's no green.  But then again... Luigi is green...

I've never really "gotten" Smash Bros, though I've tried numerous times.  I have no desire to play it on-line, so is there any point for me?  Any single-player elements seem like they'd just be tiresome grinding.

 
I wonder how long it will be before they start offering us themes as Club Nintendo rewards, and if there will be exclusive themes.

I'm happy with the Black theme, looks good on my red and black XL.

Good call, never thought of that. Not sure if it's me but it seemed that the system response was a bit 'snappier' after the update.

Also, with the themes, I am only assuming... I have a feeling it's just a small download stored on the SD card that can easily be copied and/transferred. Anyone who bought a theme could verify?
 
Well then... And here I was extremely pleased with the ALBW theme I downloaded once the update went live.

I mean, it's a theme. What exactly do you expect? PS3 themes never even had music, plus the icons I think add a nice touch(especially the folder ones). I guess it'd be cool if they were dynamic, but I really wasn't expecting much else.

I thought it would be a cool idea that when you bought a Amiibo figure you also got a theme for that character.

Well, I would like to not have the scroll to see a decent picture. There are lots of ways to use the home screen, folders exist, and I can't be the only person with tiny icons and everything crammed to the first screen. So with the Zelda theme, I'm stuck looking at the wall. I guess that's my main beef.

All I can think of watching that is how much it looks like a Metroid game. They even show off a Speed Booster.

Ah, but I am using both, friend. If I did just use folders and giant icons and scrolled, I'd probably have at least 6 folders. I could try it, though. Why even have the tiny icon option if they're not going to support it with themes? The screen people will see the most is still that first screen. Maybe it is just a poor decision made when making the Zelda theme.

Mine was the same way but I changed it so that I now have everything spread across 3-4 screens(I use folders for everything).

It's not a big deal to me to have to scroll so that I can utilize the full screen, but I get what you're saying. It's a legitimate complaint and about the only thing that I'd consider changing.
