$5 off $20 or less GC, XB, PS2 games at Toys-R-Us

Erillian

CAGiversary!
I know this is imbedded in the Black Friday post but feel like it needs its own thread.

I found some great deals at Toys-R-Us using this special however they DID NOT let me combine it with the 50% off green tag special they are running right now.

However there were many games clearanced price at my Toys-R-Us and the five dollars came off of the clearance price. I picked up SSX Tricky for the Gamecube for 5 dollars because it was clearanced at 10.

Some otheres I saw clearanced were:

(prices listed are after the 5 dollar discount)

Mafia (XB) $7
NBA Street (Gamecube) $7
Turok Evolution (PS2) $.48? (Maybe a YMMV, originally priced at 5.48 )
Beyond Good and Evil $7
Devil May Cry $7 (or somewhere around there)

There were more clearances but I can not remember them all. Anyway thought there were some good deals to have on some quality games. Good luck.

Crazy how so many people are saying that their TRU put up signs saying how you can't combine the clearance and $5 off sales. My TRU didn't give me any trouble with it at all, and they had no signs up. The ad clearly makes only two restrictions: it must be a game for the PS2, Gamecube, or XBox, and it must be priced at $19.99 or less. I don't blame them for not wanting to give away their games for free, and I wouldn't push the issue on a game that was already marked at $5, but for anything higher than that, I feel like they should have to honor it.

Just curious, did those 11/12 markdowns show up before or after they totalled it and not just scanned. My TRU still had the pre- 11/12 price drops prices when I had it scanned. "

It's YMMV on those price changes. The new pricing system at TRU drops the price of games based on sales at that store. Games that aren't selling at one store may go down in price while other stores that can still sell a few are keeping them at full price. So depending on which store you go to, the games could be different prices.

Also, official policy is not to honor the 50% off sale and the $5 off sale together, although if you complain enough they are supposed to honor it since the disclaimer wasn't in the ad(but stores are supposed to put up the signs stating it was an error and will not be honored).
Great game at a great price. It deserved all the hype it got and ten times more.
well put, thanks

When i went this morning they had signs that said it doesn't apply to green tag items. I will still try this anyway though.
Nowhere in the ad does it say green tag items are excluded, so they shouldn't be able to put up signs saying green tag items are excluded. I'd complain to corporate if they won't honor it on green tag items.

If they didn't want to sell games for next to nothing, they should have made the details of the ad more speficifc.
If they put up a sign its fair game. Just like they do with a misprint in the weekly ad.

I also saw but didn't pick up Manhunt (Xbox) for $11.98. I wish the deal would have been for GBA games also cause they had Sword of Mana and Fire Emblem for $17.98 each.

Damn!!! My TRU suxxx, they had Manhunt (Xbox) for $20.98 so you couldn't even use the $5 off promotion. Maybe I'll try a different TRU.
Maybe they'll be more careful with their ad next time. :D
I'm not 100% sure it was an honest mistake. They've been hyping the green tag sale in ads and in store for a long time, now they do this $5 additional off in the ad without mentioning any exclusions... I'm sure it doesn't hurt traffic to 'forget' to mention this exclusion, but not much you can do about it if they post signs correcting the mistake.

I feel bad for the employees who have to deal with the pissed off customers.

On another note has anyone attempted to PM this offer at BB? I am doubtful it would go, but I'm probably going to give it a shot later today.

Didn't see this mentioned...

TRU has the just-released Pinball Hall of Fame for $14.95, got it for $9.95 after the deal. This was in a newly set-up display of budget games, outside of the R-Zone.

You're a brave man. PMing anything at my Best Buy is pretty much a no-go, even if the deal isn't as convoluted as this one. :p
I too feel bad for the employees...hopefully there are a lot more managers like the one at my local TRU who read the ad and see the customer's point of view, so that the employees can just do the right thing and give them the $5 off.

Just came back from TRU and had them do my deductions on my purchases.

Ended up with the following discounted games:

Chaos Legion: Started out @ $29.99, dropped to $17.98 on 11/12 price drops, $5 off from the sale = $12.98
Maximo vs. Army of Zin: Started out @ $19.95, dropped to $14.98 on 11/12 price drops, $5 off from the sale = $9.98
Devil May Cry: Started out @ $19.99, dropped to $11.98 on 11/12 price drops , $5 off from sale = $6.98
Rallisport Challenge: Started out @ $19.99, dropped to $9.98 on 11/12 price drops, $5 off from the sale = $4.98
R-Type Final: Started out @ $29.99, came out again @ $14.95, $5 off from the sale = $9.95

Total for all 5 games: $44.87

Also picked up Luigi's Mansion and Sonic Mega Collection + (XB) for $14.99 each yesterday.
The 11/12 markdowns came up the computer when I called them to check, and as I bought them before the sale to make sure I had them, I had to go back in and have them PM it. I wanted to make sure the prices were legit from what had been posted, and for the most part, they were. When I went in yesterday, I had them drop those PM'd prices down by $5.

I'm just back from successfully PMing the $5 TRU ad at Best Buy. Picked up Riddick for $10. Sweet! Not sure if this would work every time or if it depends on the person you get, but the girl who helped me didn't have any problems with it.

Well done, wubb. I might have to go try that and see if it works, since I'll be going by a TRU and a BB later today...... :D

As I thought more about it I really didn't expect this to work. I'm not really matching a specific price after all, just an offer. But I'm glad I decided to give it a shot :D

Hello, my toysrus has mafia for $24 and maximo $20 and thats after they scan it. Should I, tell the cashier to ring up and press the total and by doing that would it be the price as you have been getting them at?

I got R-Type Final for $9, and Turok for Xbox for .48. They wouldn't let me do the green tags though.. which is lame. However... they did have signs for pricematching. I'm considering PM CC's price of Drakengard, which would be 14.99 after the 5 bucks off

I gave it a try at TRU and they pwned my ass. They said it was either the PM or the $5 off, not both. :?

I PMed to the TRU ad at Best Buy. Give that scenario a try, unless your BB is out of Riddick. Or you could just grab it at EB for $10 Friday :)

And if I could read, I'd be really dangerous, since that's what you said you did and I did it bass-ackwards. Whoops.

I think this ends today, but if you can convince the clerk to give you the $5 off on the already reduced green tag games you can walk out of there with some decent games for less than $10. I picked up XIII PS2 $4.98, MGS2 Substance Xbox $4.98, Unreal Championship Xbox $7.49, Red Faction II GCN $7.49, Serious Sam Xbox $7.49, Blinx Xbox $7.49 - all non GH/Platinum Hits.

The $5 off is not YMMV it's in a flyer available in store. Getting them to give you the $5 off the green tag is probably YMMV.

Well, I just picked up R-Type Final today, along with Chaos Legion. The latter was 5 bucks more expensive than I'd expected it to be, but its not a big deal. I'm getting spoiled... I seriously considered returning Chaos Legion because it was 15 bucks instead of 10...
