$5 off $5 1st order at Family Video

Some decent preorder deals if you go browsing through. Ordered Yoshi's Island 2 for $23.96 shipped. Zelda: TP on the Gamecube is about $41 shipped.

EDIT: Gears of War regular edition, ~$46 shipped AC.

Works if you create a new account with a different e-mail address, though, I tested.

Well, it does say "1st order" in the topic.

Hey guys. Got this coupon off of SD (lawnjockey), and noticed it worked on games too.

Coupon code $5 off $5: NEWMEM96

Been reported to work multiple times and guess on preorders too as many people got the DVD cars for about $11.xx

Also flat rate $0.99 shipping.

Not sure what states (if any) get charged tax.
Is this site reliable? Anyone ever preorder from them?
heh despite posting this I wonder as well. I know they have actual B&M stores so its definately a legit company, but I cannot vouch for their online customer service.

Some of those preorder prices are great. But I dont want to preorder and then not get the game for a month or so.

Great wealth of info there buddy. What's wrong with them? Slow shipping? Credit card fraud?

If you say bad spelling, may a solid block of irony strike you down.

I've shopped at a B&M Family Video in the past...and they're been great so far.

... pretty sure the guy is just being a little douche. I ordered from them and it was amazing service sonsidering shippings only a dollar on any order.

I'm wanting to pre order Red Steel in a few days (cancelled the one from CD Universe just now waiting on my refund) I'm just afraid it'll be a case that it will let me preorder but then go on backorder and not send me the game anywhere near release.

Dunno if this helps but I can say I've purchased family video movies and games in store. Not from Family Video, but what i would assume is an affiliate in a place called Video Express. They had abunch of used stuff with Family Video stickers on them. And they also regularly send them different used games (I go scope it out occasionally) This at least shows they're a real company. Doesn't neccesarily show how good they are on shipping though.

I'm betting on this being legit though, preordered Castlevania PofR

First impression counts, especially when you are dealing with my money. And I say: no. That website doesn't specialize in video games. They also do many other things and I sense a "BACK ORDER" situation if hundreds of people are ordering Victorious Boxers for $6 after shipping. Basically, Family Video would then be paying us to take the games out of their stock. I'd rather pay the full $10 for Victorious Boxers when it does come out.
and does anyone know if they charge your account before they actually ship out?
Yes they do. I Preordered Castlevania Portrait of Ruin ($25.96 shipped) and Final Fantasy XII ($39.99 shipped) a few minues ago and there's already a pending transaction in my bank account online.

Obviously this is the regular edition, but still a great deal:

http://shop.famvid.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=256609

-Use coupon code NEWMEM96 to get $5 off any $5 purchase

Total with .99 shipping is $45.96

FWIW Family Video is quite reliable and has excellent customer service. I ordered a pair of 360 games upon launch last year and had them within 3-4 days as memory serves of their actual release date. If we find better deals as we get closer to release date, you can always cancel.

WARNING: isn't there some sort of liability issue if any kind of transaction takes money from your account before actually shipping it out? Hence, that is why Gamestop, EB, Suncoast, Amazon, doesn't charge it until it ships? Sounds phony, and if not phony, risky.

Well I couldn't disagree more. I pre-ordered 2 games for the 360 a year ago, had them within 3-4 days of their actual release date. Their customer service is also excellent, if you want to cancel they get back to you immediately.

On the other hand, if what you care about is having the game ON the day it comes out, it's like most sites -- go buy it at a B&M and pay $10+ more for it (or in the case of GEARS OF WAR almost $20 more).

Family Video is a real chain -- we have one just down the street. I've never been inside since I haven't rented anything in years, but all of this "it must be fake" speculation is just silly. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if this coupon got pulled pretty soon. I doubt if they realized what kind of response they would get -- especially if people start making multiple accounts.

went and pre-ordered Red Steel for the Wii...so i think instead of getting DBZ: Tenkaichi for the Wii...im going to go order it for the PS2...WOOHOO!

pre-ordered Red Steel AND Twilight Princess for the Wii! YAY! also preordered some DVD like FMA Movie LE, Hellsing Ultimate, and bought Dracula Dead and Lovin' It hehe
ordered zelda for the wii
ditto. i think i'm gonna try and make another account and buy something else as well. maybe FFXII, i dunno.

Yeah icruse is right these guys are for real. I have ordered several games and I have gotten every order with no problem. They very often put their pre-order games at a real good price. I even posted a similar thread last year when the 360 was coming out - just no $5 off coupon. The only thing to be concerned about is if you "have to have it on release day." I would say that on average, I get my games about 1 week after release day. So, if you are ordering games for the wii or ps3, don't order every game you want on release day from them since you won't have anything to play for about a week.

I did go ahead and order Zelda, GOW, Metal Slug and COD3. I saved $40 over eb/gamestop. Great deal.
