$50 GameCube Trade-In EBGS

Blaine

CAGiversary!
I'd like to have someone confirm this for me, but as I stopped by to put $5 on Card Fighter's Clash for the DS, I was told that the GameCube trade in value was increased from $25 to $30 as well there's an additional $20 trade-in promotion running until November 5th, bringing the grand total to $50.

*confirmed by cags*

From http://www.gamestop.com/gs/trade-ins/trade-ins.asp:
----------
Get an extra $20 credit on the trade-in of a PS2, Xbox, GameCube, or Xbo360 Game System*

*Offer expires 11/05/06. Offer not good on cash trades. System must be in full working condition to receive full value, and must include 1 controller, AV cables, and power cord. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Trade-ins subject to manager approval. See store associates for details. No dealers.
----------

So if the GameCube nets $30 trade-in, then yeah, you'd get $50 for it. That's not bad at all!

edit: I type to slow.

So now the question is: Where can we find Gamecubes that sel for less than $50 and REALLY take advantage of this deal? >:D

So how much is the trade-in for XBOX system? If it's at least $50, and with the extra $20, that might be almost as same as selling it on eBay. Tempting...

Since the Wii is supposed to have 100% backwards compatibility, I'm thinking of selling at least one of my GameCubes before it comes out. $50 isn't too bad.

I called a few EB's one actually said they didnt have it, that printout will help, I'll stop by today and put that $50 towards my ps3 preorder

Can anyone confirm the trade-in value as $30?

As far as I can tell, the only reason to hang on to a Gamecube is if you have a Gameboy Player. That's the only accessory that won't be compatible with the Wii.

Seeing as how I don't have a GBP, this is mighty enticing.

Here's another question: my GC has digital out ... I know those are hard to come by... any chance it's worth more than $50 on ebay or to collectors around here?

ok i did this yesterday , got $50 for the system with the deal, it works with out any card, they manager said he was shocked they did this, the cube dont even sell anymore used or new. with all the new systems, but said its worth it to take advantage of the extra $20 in store credit. so yes it gets ya $50 bucks store credit, system does have to work and the controller etc.etc..

I traded my GCN on Monday for $30 + $20 trade-in promo, so with the system, original controller, AC adapter, and power cord you should get $50 while the promo is running. My credit went towards paying off my Wii pre-order. I'm paid off now yay.

Grats Gunm for paying off your Wii. To the rest this seems like a good deal in getting rid of your GC in making room for your new Wii. I personally sold my GC for 80 dollars with 8 games. I think i am regretting that decision now...

If you're in the PA/Ohio area, I think The Exchange chain of stores has them for $25-$35. If not, look for your equivelant 'used CD/Game/Movie' shop.

Ditto for yardsales, though the weather is getting a little harsh for those.

Wait it says if you trade in an Xbox towards the purchase of a 360, the Pro is only 319.99, is that the Premium? If so, fuck YES

I'm kinda torn on trading in my GC.

On the one hand, no previous Nintendo console has been Backward Compatible so I still have all of them. If I traded in the Cube I would break the collection.

I have the Gameboy player but I never use it.

On the other hand, all those other systems do is collect dust in their original boxes in the closet, so if I could turn this into $50 credit it would make sense to do so.

The only other thing that concerns me is the possibility that the Wii is not truly 100% BC. We won't really know for sure until the thing comes out and we can all test it. It probably will be because there is little difference in the hardware but still. (On the other hand, I can't wait to see what the % is for BC on the PS3, it won't be 100, I can assure you.)

This whole deal doesnt make sense....Gamestop sells the Gamecubes for 59.99 used...and nobodys buying them. Not their best business plan.

Of course, I do! And I sold my GBA when I got a DS. So I'd have no way to play my Gameboy Color games. fuck

I believe Nintendo is doing software and hardware emulation (similar to PS2) so there won't be any BC issues. XBOX360 uses only software emulation (hence, downloading) so that is why there is alot of BC emulation issues. Unless someone can refute me, since I'm just going off the top of my head, that's what I understand it as.

This is so tempting. On the one hand I can get $50 towards a wii, or at least another game. On the other hand, I kind of wanted to give it to my little cousin. I'm torn between what I can do, or what I should do. I see this is going until 11-05, so I guess I have some time. Anyone have suggestions on my kind of moral quandary?

Wow good deal!

I have sold all my GC games since they were collecting dust and my system is just sitting here waiting to play the new Zelda. Now to decide if I should sell it and rebuy later after Xmas when the price is much less than this $50 or keep it and play Zelda at launch....

EDIT: I don't plan on buying a Wii (at least not for a long time) so the new version is not an option.

It's supposed to be 100%, since it's in hardware. Were there any PS1 games that weren't compatible with the PS2? I don't know.

There were a few, but I cant remember what they are. I think they were some games that used emulation on the ps1, like one of the namco musuems.

Yes, that's the premium.

I think I'll trade my GC in for Gears of War. I'm sure I'll get more playtime out of that game then all the hours put on my GC.

I just traded in my GC, because it makes no sense to have it around when the Wii is coming out in a month, and I already have a preorder for it.

Xboxes are 70, also. A local store are selling xboxes for 48.99...hmm...

I would sell my system , but the problem is I want my controller being it's used for the Wii to. So I don't really have a complete set to sell it to them.

Hmm... is it worth keeping it just for the Game Boy Player? Maybe. If the Wii played GB/GBA games, then we'd have a different story.

Give the GC to your cousin if he's a good kid. The 50 bucks will be worth having a family member get extremely stoked about getting a console. That being said, don't be surprised if he takes it in to get the 50 bucks towards a Wii. After all, it's the thought that counts.

 That's hilarious. Yeah, I think I'm going to trade it in tomorrow. Wash my hands of the GCN until the wii comes out.

damn if only my xbox was working. i would trade it in for credit. i think i'll just keep my GC, i'm not sure i'm gettign a Wii anytime soon, so what am i going to do with 15-20 barely played GC games

ok so id gladly trade in my xbox, but problem is i have a third party controller since all my first party ones are broken...would they still take it with that controller, is there a definitive trade in value (looks to be between 70-80 from what ppl have been saying so far) and how much total would i be getting if i threw in some games like madden 07, marvel vs. capcom 2, fight night 3 and nba live 06?

Ebay your games and EB your Xbox. ;)

I guess i'll trade in my Cube for most of Gears of War and then pick up a GC sometime next year to play Zelda:TP when I find one at a flea market or yard sale.

Thanks OP

I think Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is still worth a good amount on eBay. You should see what you can get for it there.

if any of you want marvel vs. capcom, i recomend checking your fye...i looked there a few months ago (when i got it) and they had more than one copy in stock, and back in the day when Ed Wood on dvd was recalled, they still had copies...my fye tends to have stuff they arent supposed to (ET Box Set, lots of other cool stuff, Monster Legacy Collection with Busts), so check it out if you want it because you may be surprised

I have a few questions that i dont think were answered in this thread yet.

Are the old wired Gamecube controllers compatible with the Wii?
What about the component cables for progressive scan, will these be usable on the Wii? I know the later models of the GC do not even have a component out. :(

Are things like the Wavebird and Donkey Kong Bongos bc with the Wii? If so I think I'm trading mine in (and just will get a Gameboy Color to play GBC games at a pawn shop or something)

I think the Wavebirds will be compatible with the Wii. I'll try to find a link to verify.

Traded it in, couldn't pass up a limited Double Agent for $20. Going to be getting the Wii and the GC was collecting dust. Thanks OP!

I bought my GC late and prayed they would offer this deal at EBGS. So I could play Zelda and Metroid now and later, and I only lost 50% on the console. I'll trade tomorrow...

This deal is very tempting since the Wii comes out in a month and will be backwards compatible.

I am however a bit torn on the issue, as the Wii can't really be confirmed 100% backwards compatible until it comes out, and I'm pretty sure my nifty gameboy player wouldn't work on a Wii, so I think I'll hold on to my cube. If nothing else I could maybe give it my brother as a gift or something.

I think the main reason I'm trading mine in is that I know that I will be able to buy one for like $15 a year from now if I want to. EB/GS will be flooded with these things. It'll be like the DC, eventually clearanced out to $9.99.

Traded in my Cube today for $50 towards my Wii preorder. I of course only gave them my standard A/V cables and not my component cables :)

Hmmm.
