$50 GameCube Trade-In EBGS

Blaine

CAGiversary!
I'd like to have someone confirm this for me, but as I stopped by to put $5 on Card Fighter's Clash for the DS, I was told that the GameCube trade in value was increased from $25 to $30 as well there's an additional $20 trade-in promotion running until November 5th, bringing the grand total to $50.

*confirmed by cags*
This whole deal doesnt make sense....Gamestop sells the Gamecubes for 59.99 used...and nobodys buying them. Not their best business plan.
Well just like Sony, MS and Nintendo they really don't have to make money on the hardware, but they'll make it on the software. PLus trade-in credit means they make money on that as well. Oh and Zelda:TP (for my bunghole) will probably move some used Gamecube hardware.

Anyway I'm going to take advantage of this too since it seems to meet or beat what 'Cubes are going for on Ebay with less hassle. I want to wait until Nov. 5th, but afraid they might cancel the deal by then.
Oh . but the 1st party ones are the best if anything I was thinking buy a cheap one now and throw it in with it.
Once again you misunderstand me, but in this case I'm glad. I never thought of buying a cheap (in your definition meaning 3rd party) controller to trade in with it. I was thinking trade it all in now and then try and find a cheap used 1st party controller after the Wii hits.

The question is, can we trade it in with a 3rd party controller?

Good deal, I have a wavebird, 2 1st party, and 1 mini madcatz should I get rid of them all except the wavebird or keep a regular controller too.
$60 madcatz cable lol
As mentioned many times in the wii forum, that price should be a placeholder price . Though we don't know a actual price, it should be around 20/30, which is the price over in Japan. I doubt they would double the price here.
Since the Wii is supposed to have 100% backwards compatibility, I'm thinking of selling at least one of my GameCubes before it comes out. $50 isn't too bad.
The Wii features backward compatibility for games from all previous Nintendo consoles, as well as games from the Sega Genesis and the TurboGrafx-16. The system can play GameCube discs without a problem, but games from older systems will only be playable as Virtual Console downloads.

Probably sell my gamecube now. $50 is a pretty good trade.

They'll have a sale on them and they'll move at $30-40. Considering they're only giving you store credit...and you'll probably buy some used games they paid pennies for (or at least they hope you do), they figure they can't lose any money on the deal.

They actually do need to stock up on used systems for the holidays, as not all EB/GS stores have them. I know my local stores have more Xboxes than anything (because people have been upgrading to 360s), a bunch of PSPs, and bunch of fat DS systems, plenty of PS2s, and probably less Gamecubes than anything else. Parents that don't want to spend $250 on a Wii this Christmas (or can't afford to) might be looking for something a little more affordable for their kids, such as a Gamecube and a couple $10 used games.
anyone know if the Bongos will work on the Wii?
I don't see why they wouldn't. You plug them just like you would a controller. I'm keeping my three sets.

i called my eb this morning and they claimed they never heard of this deal. i asked the girl if there was any way she could check to see if it is real and she said "sir, i'm telling you we aren't doing that"...she said it with a little bit of attitude. i'm gonna call back later when the manager is there.

i just traded my Cube in with the game boy player and got 74 bucks in trade in value...they weren't doing anything except just sitting there..

Dude you should have eBayed the GB Player! The Player alone is ridiculously rare these days. Look at this auction by a CAGer.

Used go easily for $50 and new ones will go easily to $70.

If it's on the website, (which it is) then they're doing this deal all around basically.

Shit, thanks for the head up! I just traded in my Cube yesterday, sold my component cables to a gentleman on a forum, and had no idea my gameboy player was worth that much.

You guys should know, I just called my local EB asking whether they were still doing the "sell 3 DS games, get $10 extra store credit" deal, and he said no and proceeded to rattle off the current deals; the first one he said was "$20 extra credit on the trade-in of any current system except the Gamecube." I asked him to clarify that, and he said the $20 extra does not apply to Cube trade-ins.

That seems like a very strange thing for him to make up, so it looks like this is either YMMV based on location, or EBGS has caught on to how bad a deal that works out to be for them.

Sad, because I thought I had a couple more weeks to decide if I could part with my Cube for $50. Looks like I missed the bus.

Okay, I wasn't sure I was going to do this but I think I'm gonna bite, could really use the money to pay off a game or two.

That being said, here's a question that I could really do with someone answering before I leave to trade it in-- If EB.com has a preorder bonus with a game, what's the likelyhood in store will offer it as well? Certain, None, Only if I ask for it, Only if I bring in a print out of the bonus, what?

No problem. If you have the official Nintendo brand Component Cable, I hope you got at least $40 for it. New ones go for $50 - $60.

Sometimes they will have extras, sometimes they won't have enough.

So, basically, they go to online shoppers first, then if theres 'leftovers' they go to random instore preorders?

I really want it, damn the EB gift cards not working on eb online.

And not all online preorders will get bonuses. And of course, if Square or whoever only gives them 2000 bonuses, and they get 5000 preorders, there's not a whole lot they can do.

Seeing as how i paid $60 for a cube with metroid prime and a memory card...its time to let go

Ill have 55+ games, 3 bongos, 4 wavebirds, a broad band adapter and a gameboy player laying around though

Kinda want to keep it since my cube was fully loaded but at the same time...most of that will work on Wii anyway

Does anyone know if a classic GC with the digital out port is worth anything more than a standard GC? I was packing mine up, about to take it down for the trade-in when I realized I had one with both outputs. Those are hard to find, right? Are they worth anything, or is the $50 trade in the best to hope for?

I have a platinum with digital out that's going to EB today. I don't think they're worth anymore than the other one's to the average person on ebay if that's the route your going. Plus, the wii makes the digital output a moot point. Mine's out the door in about 5 minutes.

I took my Gamecube in. Got $50, base of $30 (up from $25 on the wiki last I checked) + the $20 bonus. I had a cheap second party control, power cord, and AV cable and they took it fine. Didn't need anything else. Pretty good for me since I only payed $45 for it in the first place and I got to keep the other extras in case I grab a Wii later.
The 20 bucks only applies to the xbox, ps2, and gamecube.
The sign on the store actually had more then those 3. 99.999% sure it had the PSP, and then sort of sure about the 360 and DS being on there too. I should have payed more attention but it WAS more then 3 systems on there.
The 20 bucks only applies to the xbox, ps2, and gamecube.
I was just at an EB Games in the Bridgewater, NJ Mall and the small signs they had up through out the used game section said the $20 extra applied to the Nintendo DS (with stylus & AC power cord) and Sony PSP as well.

And so ends the GCN at my house. $50 was to good to pass up, especially when there are huge signs for used GameCube's for $59.99.

Thanks OP. I didn't have the GB Player and I figure to buy another cube when it plummets to N64 price (19.99)....$50 was an easy sell for me.

Damn, I don't have the AV Cables, I do have MadCatz ones, am I better off just buying some used AV cables instead?
I believe Nintendo is doing software and hardware emulation (similar to PS2) so there won't be any BC issues.
Yes but even with the PS2 there were a few BC problems. If the Wii is 99% BC but the one game I love is in that 1% I would be PO'd.

A lot of people made stupid mistakes trading in the Xbox before they actually had the 360 in hand to test with. I agree with you though that the Wii should be pretty BC, probably 99.5% or maybe 100.

However, I strongly caution folks getting the PS3 to hang onto the PS2 until they know for sure that every game they like works.

I had no idea a new GBA Player was selling for so much. I saw a few brand new at a store a while back for $40 or 50 each. Looks like I gotta stop to make in the morning, hope they still there.... $100 shipped lately on Ebay. :D

really? My Wal-Mart had a bunch. I'd go through the trouble for about $30.

Whaaa?? Last time I looked they were $20-$30 shipped, new! I have one I have never used. While I'm keeping my GC, I might consider selling the GBA player - have never felt the need to use it.

Traded today a black GC, but one EBgames told me that to be considered "complete" it has to have the bottom covers (mine was missing them) and a "original controller. Went to another Gamestop traded in no problem without the covers.

:)

I just got back from EBgames and traded in my Gamecube. I got the $50, and i'm gonna save it for something taht comes out in November.

Meh - November is a complete wasteland for gaming - nothing coming out then ;)
