75% off N64 and PS1 Games @ EB/GS

bsschorr

CAGiversary!
The old B1G1 sale appears to be over and is being replaced with a 75% off sale; plus the 10% off for your Game Informer card comes off the original (and the the dicounted price), makes the deal closer to 85% off. It also appears that the old N64 and PS1 games are being consolidated in select stores, so many stores will not have any games and some will have a ridiculous amount. YMMV and good luck.

So, that includes:
Alundra
Beyond the Beyond
Blood Omen Legacy of Kain
Breath of Fire
Diablo
Dragon Valor
Final Fantasy anything
Grandia
Chrono Cross
Chrono Trigger
Jade Cocoon
Kartia
Legend of Mana
Lunar Silver Star Story
Parasite Eve
Persona 2
RPG Maker
Saga Frontier 1
Saga Frontier 2
Star Ocean
Suikoden
Tales of Destiny
Vagrant Story
Vandal Hearts
Xenogears

Any other must-haves I'm missing? I kind of missed out on the PSX -- I sat out most of that generation, got an N64 for Christmas at launch but never had more than half a dozen games until recently, and the only thing I really played on the PSX (which I got towards the end of its lifecycle) was Final Fantasy IX.

Most of my teenage gaming was either retro or on the PC.
All I did was ask at another store and they let me browse through it. I tried asking in the one I got Paper Mario from, but they were kinda busy and were close to closing, so I felt it was better to just let them handle the other customers that were busting their chops.
Very interesting, interesting indeed....well, I'll need to ask for it then when I go next time, hopefully tommorow.

Is it like that "Upcoming Games" binder, with a weekly printout? Was there even a date on the inventory binder printouts?

Basically it's like those binders, but it's pretty much a list of stuff they have sitting in the back listed by consoles. What I found REALLY suprising was they even had Genesis and NES games listed.

I didn't really bother to look for a date. I simply asked the guy if he had any of the older games, he said they did. I asked if there was any way I could see them and handed me a binder to look over. The spine was labeled "N64 and PSOne." If you're gonna ask to see it, ask if they have any lists of games that they have for the older games (if they do confirm that they have them).

I finally hit not one, but 2 stores yesterday with a fairly large stock of PS1 games.

I got a considerable pile from each store. Unfortunately all the RPGs were gone, but still managed to pick up some very decent titles like...

Resident Evil 1
Dino Crisis
Incredible Crisis
The Game of Life
Digimon games
Dune 2000
Raystorm
Tomb Raiders
Twisted Metal III/4
Megaman Legends
Umjammer Lammy
Time Crisis
etc etc

Not the absolute cream of the crop, but some good ones IMO. I was very pleased overall, seeing that the average price after Edge card was 0.45-0.60. The most expensive game I picked up was RE1, $1.35 after edge. :)

One store had no N64 games, the other one only have a very sad selection of ONLY basketball titles :/

Well, went to the only GS that I knew that still stocked ps1 and n64 games. I went to look at the rack with the cases, a bit hard since they were all jewel cases with a sticker on them. One employee comes up and asks if I need help, I ask for their inventory list on ps1 games, he says they dont have one.

Back to fishing, I was so suprised when I fished out Parasite eve II and Breath of Fire IV. But the rest were full of Who Wants to be a millionare, various madden, and cat in the hat?

Went up to the counter, other guy tells me that the cases are basically old, he's going to show me the inventory list, which employee #1 told me they didnt have...Looked through it, nothing much, but Breath of fire missing :( then I ask him to get a small list of games. Pulls out a box with the games, sleeves so old they're falling apart. I asked him first if I could just take a look at them myself, tells me they cant put it over the counter. Gives up after I list about 3 games, tells me to go ahead. Mixed up, but I wade through it, eventually getting Fear Effect and Parasite Eve 2. Total, about 2.25 with 85% off.

Today I snatched up:
Alone in the Dark
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
Bomberman Party (complete)
Cardinal Sin (complete)
Danger Girl
Darkstone
DeathTrap Dungeon
Disneys Atlantis
Fear Effect 2
Guardian's Crusade
Harry Potter (complete)

I also grabbed some stuff to trade, like an extra Tenchu, extra Wild 9 and extra DeathTrap Dungeon, and extra Kileak, some other games, too. Once I've been here for a month I'll make a trade list =D

Yesterday hurt me bad. The two GameStops that had the good stuff was low on 'em. The one with N64 games had them all sent out to another store, so they had only mostly crap PSOne games. The next place I went to barely had much left, either. I did manage to snag the following:

Nintendo 64
Harvest Moon 64 - $4.20
Space Station Silicon Valley - $1.50

PlayStation
Digimon World 3 - $0.75
Parasite Eve - $1.95 (Came with both discs and the third bonus disc)
Resident Evil 2 - $1.05
Spyro the Dragon - $1.05

Was so pissed that I lucked out on Suikoden. They had it on the list (and they had just finished printing out an updated list) but they were more worried about making sure they get the store closed within an hour rather than finding the game (and it was a slow night, there was nobody there but me).

Apparently the first place I went had Persona 2 complete, but its a thick box with only one disc, so I assumed it was a multi-disc game missing a disk. I passed it to them as shrink =(

I also found empty boxes for Beyond the Beyond and a couple other RPGs laying around. Apparently a lot of the good stuff got nicked.
A Harvest Flipping Moon, get out of town! Play the lottery man because your one lucking mo fo
I've picked up two Harvest Moons during this sale. The first thinking I wouldn't find another, then the second cause the first one has a really faded label. Both work though, cause I fired both up.

Heh. I think I've only lucked out with finding Paper Mario and Harvest Moon 64, those two and The Next Tetris were the most expensive and apparently the most difficult to find.

you should pretend you want to buy the boxes and ask for how much. they cant charge for them and all they could do is throw them out. they will end up giving them to you.

i did this for Bust a Groove 2.. i wanted to buy the game for $29.99.. they looked for about 15 minutes and they couldnt find the game. So i was like can i just buy the case cause i have the game at home just need the case really (cause i had bought the game at another EB for the same price but no case). The guy was like here take it.

Yeah, I suck for that. I totally should have grabbed them. At least I know better now.

But wait! There's more!

So, I set out early this morning because the GS manager promised me a restock, and I had an hour window to get into the store, pick out my games, buy them, drive to Wal-Mart and drop my car off, and walk to work. Work and the store are over 20 minutes apart.

78 Games
TOTAL: 113.73

And I can definitely make my money back just by selling the duplicates online, netting $0 for an awesome library of games, or possibly even a profit.

Swung by the local thrift store on my home from work on a complete whim. Poked around by the CDs, thought maybe I'd see something random and cool, but not likely. Then I saw a familliar black disk staring back at me from a generic case - it was the install disc to Final Fantasy VII for the PC! I rummaged around some more, and came across disc 2...but that was all. Both were labeled $3.99. I moved over to the next display of predominantly music CDs, and managed to find the last two! I grabbed the clerk/manager and asked about getting them all together for 3.99 since they were all part of the same game. He told me "No, but its a Wednesday so they're half price." Whatever, works for me.

Haul:

PC:
Final Fantasy VII

TOTAL: $8.65

Of course, this is on the scenic route home, which is in the general direction of my local GameCrazy. Having brushed up on my PSX games, I thumbed through their bin of Classic Plastic. Today I snagged:

PSX"
Bushido Blade
Digimon World (complete and immacculate!)
Guardian's Crusade
Incredible Crisis
Kagero: Deception II
Pandemonium!

TOTAL: $23.55

Not as awesome a deal as at GS, but not too shabby. They also had Persona and Persona 2, as well as Digimon World 3 and some other stuff, that I'm coming back for tomorrow , since I ran out of cash on hand. A friend of mine is buying my spare Parasite Eve 2, Dino Crisis, and Soul Reaver for $20, and another is buying my copy of Pokemon Diamond for $35, since she never got hers and I also have Pearl, but don't even have the time to play that.

They also had a million copies of WaveRace 64, but I've got a copy or three of it somewhere already.

Time to hit up eBay...

Today I picked up (All after 75% + 10% GMR Discount):

N64

Gauntlet Legends - 1.95
Hybrid Heaven - .75
Biofreaks - .45

Deadly Arts - 1.50

Deathtrap Dungeon - .75
Missle Command - .45
Blaster MAster: Blasting Again - .45
Blue's Clues: Blue's Big Musical - .75

Total Spent: 18.13 with Tax

Factor in the 2.97 I had to spend for a bottle of Goo Gone (the N64 carts were gawd awful dirty) and my total was $21.28...I think I did OK.

I picked up DDR Disney Mix and Harvest moon back to Nature, total was about 9.00 at gamestop X-D I had gone into the same gamestop a week before looking for Harvest moon becasue it said they had it instock on-line but didn't find it..and today went looking for DDR Disney Mix because it said on-line they had it and it wasn't there either so i asked the Cashier and he couldn't find it on the floor so he went into the back and found a box of amazing ass PS1 games and low and behold DDR Disney and Harvest moon were chillin in it. I didn't pick up the rest because i'm not a greedy mofo.

I can't begin to explain how much I envy you for finding DDR Disney mix....

Okay so the only GS in my area that still carries these N64 games and PSX games got a shipment in of 25 things yesterday. (I called and asked today). Should I drive and check it out? It's a little bit of a drive.

I must say you all suck!!! lol trying to find an EB/Gamestop around me with some PSone stuff is like finding Bin Laden, The only game I came across in a trip was Saiyuki: Journey West and I passed it up to come home and read a review and think chit that was a gem then went back and it was gone!!!

Good luck with finding more of that stuff you people snagging multi-copies of titles should share the love with us less fortunate PSone/N64 less game shops..

Is hardware covered under this sale as well?

My local GS has a few PSOne/LCD Screen combos left. Anyone know what the price would be?

The site's backorder lists it at $49.99, but we all know that really can't be accurate.

My local stores that had buttloads of PS1/N64 games now have next to none. Of course, part of the blame for that definitely falls on me, since I mentioned which two local stores I had recently seen collections of the games at.

Mind you, all I want from the PS1 era is maybe 2 games, but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay Ebay like prices for them from ANYONE. Intelligent Qube and Rising Zan are the ONLY two games I WANT, but I'm not willing to pay more than the $6 something 75% off price for IQ.

Ah well.....easy come easy go.

The employees at my local store say the sale applies to hardware making their $15.00 ps1 system really cheap (according to them) but the discount didn't apply to the controller I purchased now that I look at the receipt. Let us know if you can get them to apply the discount to hardware

At one store, I got a PSone with RF switch, one dual shock PSone controller, and the power cord for $10 pre-tax.

They had other PSones available but I nabbed the best for myself. The rest were dingy and some even had issues with the lid not shutting.

The official PSone LCD screens were still $75, though.

I might be able to share the love, but I'm not sure, mostly I've been spreading the games around to my other friends. But I know one store still has some and I'm going there soon cause I have to go that way anyways to see my gf.
I didn't get a PM.
I sent one to Tsukento, but now I've sent one to you as well. Be happy!

EDIT: And to keep this post on topic, the EBGames near me was cleaned out of some of the 'good stuff' recently. Worms Armageddon, Starcraft 64, and Dr. Mario 64 were all there before, but were gone when I went back for them. Why do people want shit ports? Granted, they were the most expensive 64 games they had at $24.99 before discount, but still...

Also, they stopped doing BOGO sometime ago, probably because they just advertised a worse deal of B2G1 coming up on Sunday.

@Derrick1979: with older games, you really need to just grab and buy it without thinking. specially if its at eb or gs and most certainly when theres a 75% off promotion going on :)

things i have passed on in the past that i regreted:

final fantasy 7 (game only), it was $29.99. went back the next week, GONE :(
parappa the rapper (game only), $11.99, thats why i passed, but it was $11.99. 2 days later GONE :(
suikoden 2 (game only), priced at $69.99, almost bought this gem, saw the game disc at the register cause i asked, came back the NEXT DAY it was apparently stolen :(
castlevania chronicles, $29.99, this was complete too, passed again a month later it was snagged by someone else :(

lesson made: do not pass on older games. its harder to get them, and youll never see it again. they are kinda like endangered species, but instead youll only see them on ebay.
I ran across the odd psone lcd combo during my search and they always ring up $150 new.
 I guess this would be where I mention that I grabbed one from a local Kmart for $10 last fall or so, huh? Lots of luck finding a Kmart with any PSone/LCD combos left though.

Of course, I also grabbed a buttload of old grey model PS1's from a local shop for $1 each(consoles only) around the same time. I should've nabbed them all though, only took around 5-6. And, out of those, only 1 had problems.

Are you going to build a fort with all those copies of mario 64 and mario kart? You're making me want to revisit my stores

242 ps game only
263 N64

very rough number.. not included Old NEs games and box ps1 games and stuff i kept.

I bought my stores out.... i didnt care...what and how many i got. except if it was stupid shit cough....SPORTS!!!.

That list is craptacular that you got arthur3D, very few 'harder to get' titles(from what I remember of the list of 'rare' titles anyway) and lots of dreck thrown in.

Hoarders who buy assloads of games like that, then get nothing 'good' out of it= JUSTICE

Now, if I could just find the hoarder who cherry picked all the PS1/N64 games from stores here and left the Maddens from 10 years ago there I might be happy. Although, the one guy who is a manager at a store about 30-40 miles away now told me they may have the games in the back still. So, maybe that's where I'm headed today.

Are you going to help fellow CAGs with all of those games? For instance, all of your apparently unwanted Paper Marios will surely go to good homes in seconds if you gave paying CAGs an opportunity to buy them off of you.

Still doesn't make any sense, unless you're like the couple flea market stand people here who sell games, who buy them cheap from one place and try and jack them up by $10-40 per game to sell at their weekend stands.

How the one guy stays in biz is beyond me, since he buys games that're now GH titles for $4-5, then puts them up over $20 a pop. I don't think a single game has moved from his stand in the over 2 years he's been at the flea market.

Now, when he had a higher rent and more overhead, he was actually selling stuff cheaper and it made going to his store a pleasure, because I knew he wouldn't try ass raping me on price on a game.

Either way, I still go to the shop he buys many of his games from now, where I get them for $3-10 usually with the occasional title going for $15-20.

Ahhhhhh....the old 'I bought them all so I can Ebay the crap outta them and make back my initial money and then some' routine. Good luck is all I can say because if most of the useless dreck gets you $1 per title, plus whatever you can try and overcharge for shipping, you MIGHT at least break even.

But, you're NOT the first person on CAG to hoard to the extreme, as I too had that plan at one point. And, maybe the Goldeneye's and Paper Marios will sell, along with some other titles, but I don't see ALL of those selling for as big as you might think.

Anyway, good luck with that. Coughcoughhoardercoughcough

yea im not trying to make millions off this shit...i know that.
i want to break even...that way i keep the games i like...im a game collector..and i enjoy all the games i own...(i dont keep games in closet and watch mold grow on there sealed wrapers..and wait 20 years and ebay them...thats sickl) i play all my shit. I hope i dont end up with a box to look at....eek....but thanks for the advice.....cough*cough*not horder just a collector /end cough (fuc that rhymes) ;)
