THE GIST:
87 TRU's are closing
Current sale at (will drop to bigger discounts):

10-30% off all consoles
20-50% off all games
20-50% off all guides
40-50% off all accessories

*All discount amounts YMMV. Check the list below for a possible update on where each store is at.
*All items bought cannot be returned or exchanged anywhere (the barcodes will be crossed out with a marker).
*Further discounts should happen every 1, 2 weeks. It seemed at first it would be a YMMV on when, but it seems all stores are dropping prices at the same time.
*Stores will probably close sometime around Feb. 27th, give or take a couple weeks. Really just depends on how much merch is still moving when that time comes.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the store/sale list!

1/7 3AM EDIT: I am going to my TRU tomorrow to shop, as I bet many of the rest of you will too. Post what deals and stores you find and hopefully we can compile something worthwhile here. ^_^

1/7 1PM EDIT: Trying to compile what stores we have confirmed are closing; also adding what seems to be the current sale. Since each store is bought by local liqudators, your discounts may be different and drop slower/faster, so YMMV on the discounts, for better or for worse.

1/8 11PM EDIT: Looks like we are looking at about two weeks for the next drop, which should be to 20% - 40%. The time of the drop and the amount is up to each liqudator, so YMMV when it comes to it. But two weeks should be about right for all the stores. Store list updated, along with return policy. Forgot to ask about exchanges though, doh. >_<

1/11 2:30PM EDIT: Changed closed store total from 72 to 87, 12 of which are being turned into Babys R Us. Closing store list also updated.

1/13 3:30AM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added a note below about "fixture" sale information (which probably varies per store on how they go about selling the stuff off).

1/13 11:45PM EDIT: Updated the closed store list. Added news on possible console discounts.

1/16 3PM EDIT: Looks like Reality's Fringe was right on a nation-wide clearance increase, so thanks to him for the head's up!

1/16 11PM EDIT: Complete closing store list added!

2/9 7:30PM EDIT: Updated %s

I walked into work today for my paycheck and to price adjust some games, and one of the managers took me aside, gave me some paperwork and told me our TRU (Bellingham, WA) along with 72 others are being closed, effective tomorrow. Well, at least my store tomorrow, but I assume everyone else is in the same boat. The earliest they will actually close their doors is Feburary 27th, so there will be plenty of time to take advantage of the sale.

According to the manager, everything will be clearanced for the closing sale starting tomorrow, and only a few things will not be part of that, being video game hardware. I asked about games and she said she didn't know. I don't know exactly what the clearance is going to start at, but I would say 30% (what the GT sale usually starts at) would be a good guess.

If you bought anything from a closing TRU before today and you want to return, exchange, price adjust, whatever, you can still do so. But: everything bought from here on out CANNOT be returned. If they are like my store, they take a big black marker and cross out the UPC. They do this so you cannot return it to another TRU. I didn't get the whole speech, so exchanges may be okay, but no more returns, no more price adjustments.

Also: all TRU coupons, sales, price drops, whatever are no longer valid at the closing stores, since they are not really TRUs anymore.

If not already, you should be seeing soon some sort of poster, fill-out form, whatever in your TRU about selling the fixtures, etc. This includes video game display posters, standees, the playable game set-ups, etc. At my store, it was a cardboard kisok thing with a form you filled out with your contact info and what you want, and they'll contact you with a price. Don't know what things will go for, but you may or may not be able to score some cool stuff.

In case anyone was wondering (I was wondering), I used a gift card this evening at a closing TRU. I wasn't sure if it was going to work since they aren't really TRUs anymore, but it went off without a hitch.

Also, I'm not clear on this, do the price updates that Benboxer usually posts apply to the closing stores? I know most recently Ghost Recon 2 Summit Strike dropped to $20 and I'd be pretty interested to pick this up for $14 next week at 30% off.
The TRU in Lansing Illinois has all it's games at 20% off.

I picked up for PS2.

1. Bards Tale $ 7.98

2. KIller 7 $ 7.98

3. Cold Fear $7.98

4. JAK 3 15.96

5. Sly 2 15.96

6 .Shadow Of The Col $31.99
That's mine too! Got a 360 play & chrage kit when it was 30% off and just picked up a Xbox 360Live pack for $42 which includes a $20 rebate for any 360 game. Great deal.

Trying to contain myself from buying the 360 VGA cable they have. Not too sure when I'd use it but at 40% off it's hard to resist.

I'm hoping for +10% each Sunday. The Vallejo TRU is getting pretty cleaned out. They even have price tags on EVERYTHING: shelves, lights. They seem to be a bit of a rip off to me. I didn't check the bathroom, but I'm sure the toilets are for sale. There are a lot of board games left that I would love to pick up on the cheap.
anyone think the discounts will get lower than this? or do you think this is about as clearenced as they get?
They WILL go lower, it's always a question of what will be left.

The toysrus in Nanuet, New York is NOT closing. I went down there to check it out and just ended up picking up Dead to Rights 2 for $10

Finally check out the closing TRU in Tampa on Dale Mabry... still a ton of $50 games left, along with some ones I might pick up if the 30% happens on Sunday (didn't someone post the percentages would increase every Sunday??).

The find of the day?

The LAST copy of Lost in Blue for $23.99, after it having disappeared from every retailer possible. Seriously, what did Best Buy do with those 10 + copies??
I'm hoping for +10% each Sunday.
So, any chance this might happen this Sunday (1/22)???

50% off accessories would be sweet... and 30% off games, now we're starting to get into CAG territory.

If somone can confirm this i am gonna head out this weekend to my local closing TRU.
If somone can confirm this i am gonna head out this weekend to my local closing TRU.
Sorry if i misled you... I was just speculating since another CAG mentioned that perhaps every Sunday, the discount would drop another 10% off.

I have no idea if TRU is in fact dropping it another 10% this weekend.

Forgot to mention that the store I got Lost in Blue from did none of the permanent black marker over the UPC, simply rang up the game and that was that.

as there number of days comes near, prices will drop even more. I think mines has like 4 days left and everything i believe is at 70% off.
Forgot to mention that the store I got Lost in Blue from did none of the permanent black marker over the UPC, simply rang up the game and that was that.
You got it with the 10% off right?
I might just bite at that price.

20% off... $29.99 ---> $23.99

I really wanted to use the Best Buy coupon instead, but the four Best Buy's I checked were out of stock, and I got really lucky finding this last copy of LiB at TRU.

Did you happen to notice if they still had many official PS2/XBox controllers? I'm planning to go back Sunday when they're (hopefully) 50% off.

I didn't look, but they had a huge wall full of accessories that looked pretty full.
I didn't look, but they had a huge wall full of accessories that looked pretty full.
Ah, thanks. I'm expecting the accessories to sell kind of slowly. The games are going pretty quickly, though.
Ah, thanks. I'm expecting the accessories to sell kind of slowly. The games are going pretty quickly, though.
Kind of. The $50 dollar stuff is lingering, the cheaper stuff seems to be moving quicker, and the GBA / DS stuff seems to have went fast.

I think the whole "NO RETURNS NO REFUNDS" signs are detouring alot of people from getting the more expensive games.

Just came back from the TRU at 48th Street & Northern Blvd in Queens, New York. They are not listed as a closing store but there is a "Winter Clearance" sale going on. All systems seem to be gone. I only saw two PS2 Final Fantasy XI HDD units.

There's a s--- load of 3rd party accessories that no one seems to want. Carry cases anyone?

All the recent release games are still full price. Last year's models are about $9.99-$39.99. There are no more stand out titles for any system. They do have an abundent supply of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. I plan on buying Subsistence in March but maybe I'll pickup a copy as a backup if the price drops low enough in the next few weeks.

Some of the toy shelves are cleared out.

Was just in the one in Springdale (Tri-county) Ohio and they still had quite a few GBA games and a fair number of DS games. The DS titles I remember are Polarium ($9.99 before dicount) Monster Trucks DS, RIdge Racer, Feel the Magic, Ping Pals, Spiderman 2, Metroid Pinball. There were a bunch of others but I don't recall them. The newer games are cheaper at Best Buy if you use the coupon.

The selection of PS2, GC, and Xbox games was so-so. I didn't go through these too closely although a lot of newer stuff was in the case behind the counter.

They did have some X360 accessories. I tried to see if they would sell the 360 demo machine but was told it wasn't for sale.

Lots of steering wheels/pedals for around $23 (after discount) some of which were wireless. I think they were the intec brand. Lots of drum masters and donkey kongos.

Everything was 20% (except systems). The cashier didn't know when the next drop was going to happen but he said the store would be open another 6 weeks.

If my source was right, a +10% should be coming tommorow. Of course, I didn't get to talk to the same guy today, so if something changed, I don't know. Let's wait und see.

I visited the San Francisco TRU today. As far as consoles/accessories/games are concerned, it's essentially picked clean. The only items left are higher priced games.

Reality's Fringe]If my source was right said:
You were right last time, but according to one of my managers working tonight, there is no drop at my store tomorrow.

I really hope another week goes by so my wallet can recover, hehe. ^_~

I just phoned my local Toysrus thats closing in San Diego, I got the recorded message i.e. store not open so pressed 0 to talk to a rep.

The sale is still only 20-40% off Today, so no increase in the discount :whistle2:(

Different stores are on different liquidation schedules. I would suspect that at leats 1/2 of the stores dropped another 10% this week, with San Diego not being one of them.

On another note, has anyone been able to get any information on getting store displays? I have my name on a list but can't get any information on pricing or timing.

I asked at San Diego a while back, they said no on the Xbox 360 and GameCube display units.. They will not be sold but will be shipped back to the manufacturer.

Also here is a sign on the 360 display unit saying not for sale!

no-go on the extra 10% off here either, but I picked up another xbox controller @ $18 and a 1 year Xbox Live sub @ $30 anyways. I figure it's a lukewarm deal, but from between thursday night and today it looks like around 60% off their PS2, Gamecube, Xbox and GBA games were sold to a 3rd party so I didn't want to take any chances.

Man if someone comes across a XBox 360 Controller, MarketPlace Points, or year Live subscription....Pick it up for me Please...I will make it worth your while

I went to the store closing on Dale Mabry in Tampa, FL just before 6PM today. The games are pretty picked over, with mostly the more expensive games left. They have a couple dozen Baten Kaitos, but they have the soundtrack CD and start at a base price of $29.95. They got in several dozen copies each of Polarium, Retro Atari, and Ping Pals for the DS, all at $8 with discount. It's weird that they got restocked at all, and only on crappy clearance games.

I went to pick up extra PS2 and XBox controllers; the official PS2 controllers were all gone, and I got the last three official black XBox controllers for $18 each. There were three blue controllers left for the XBox, but several people were looking at them as I left. If any locals care, they still have a couple of Bomberman DS left at $8.00 each after discount.

This was my first go around for this sale at the Commack, NY store, and I was shocked at how many Polariums they had. Plenty of Nintendogs as well.

I was hoping to pick up some XBox 360 accessories, but it was completely cleared out, except for some faceplates and wired controllers. I picked up one of the controllers for my PC. There was also an okay selection of former 9.99 sale items, so I picked up Feel the Magic and Advance Wars 2. There were other sale items, and a pretty good selection of regular priced games, for a store about to go out of business.

Man came across a 360 hard drive but they were only giving 10% off. They said they considered it a system and so only offered 10%

How is this a system and not an accessory?

It's considered "hardware" and video game "hardware" is only 10% off. Or so that how I overheard it explained today.

I scoped out my TRU and there's a lot of stuff I will get if it's still there when stuff hits 50% off. Stuff like DDR 3 w/pad that they have a stack of. Some DS and PSP games which seem to be moving very slowly (this store is in a poorer area so the newer stuff is actually moving slower than the GC, PS2, Xbox stuff)...and some accessories that I'll grab if they hit like 70% off (wireless dance pads, GC LCD screen, etc.).

of the final closing date for these stores? I'm wondering if it's a finite date for all stores, or if it is subject to some fluctuation between locations.

Update to my other post.

Apparently the TRU at 48th & Northern in Queens, NY does have PS2s. They are hidden behind a few panel displays on the top shelves behind the counter.

They seem to have sold a few games since Saturday. Still nothing worth getting except maybe MGS3.

Wow I went tonight to TRU. They were picked over badly already. There are no worthwhile accessories at this point. The only things that might be worth buying are the Dance mats or Taiko Drum master if the price ever comes down.

Yeah I was at my South Hills Pittburgh TRU last tuesday... at that time I was just looking for Mercenaries for the Xbox.. it was only 20% off and didn't excite me... Just today I realized I should have gotten a Xbox Controller S when they were 40% ... of course since I check to day, they are completely picked over, only the $49.99 EA Sports wireless and the Intec crap (I say crap because they get horrible reviews on amazon, I haven't tried them). I did see the Xbox DDR Ultra and dance mat... are any of those mats good? I heard the Intec ones are bad, are the other two dance mats TRU sell any good? Thanks

Wait so this actually means that the candian stores are closing down too, anyone in Canada can conferm this???? I have to go and check if ths is happening in Canada or not.
It's considered "hardware" and video game "hardware" is only 10% off. Or so that how I overheard it explained today.
I think TRU employees are just too stupid to understand that certain wares have the word "hard" in the name and, yet, are not "hardware".

I called my local store and the girl I talked to said February 28th. But then said it just depends on how fast the merchandise sells. If everything's pretty much gone she said they'd close early.

The last TRU I went to the employees were packing all of the recent games and cursing like sailors. I just bought an Intec dance mat, do they really suck? If so, which one should I try to get?

Thanks LK, I was going on that assumption. I'm cruising to the Woodbury store today, so hopefully they have some decent stuff left. We'll see. Thanks for the info!
