I don't believe this'll fit internally but good price regardless

Anyone know the best external HD to get for a 360?  I was thinking of getting a USB 2.0 drive to save a few bucks, but it seems like they are all 3.0 nowadays.  That $78 one on Rakuten seems pretty good.

I can confirm 1.5TB works for PS3. I have an HGST model that I've been using for over 2 years now on my old Super Slim Model which I sold. Now I use it in my Slim and backwards compatible Fat model. No issues except for random crashes every once in a while and the PlayStation Store is a tragedy to run for more than 5 minutes as it just kicks me out constantly...but honestly that happens no matter what hard drive you use. PS3 is just completely outdated and a dinosaur by now.

For what it's worth I am almost positive you cannot go higher than 2TB since that is the FAT32 file limit. If you want proof just stick your larger capacity HDD in a PC and use a formatting tool under FAT 32 to try to do more than 2TB

- spoiler-

It won't work :)
I second that a 1.5TB drive works on the PS3 and the 2TB won't work. The PS3 can't format the 2TB drive for some unknown reason.

Not had any issues with the PS3 since it received its 1.5TB drive.

One tip I've learned... if you have a old ps3 and a ps4, you can put a larger drive in the ps4, and then replace the old ps3's smaller drive with the ps4 drive.

I'm also having a devil of a time. I can't get my ps4 to recognize almost all my sd cards/thumb drives.. I finally managed to get it to recognize one, and have the update file on it, but it can't use the file on the thumb drive, even though it could back up save files to it before swapping out the hard drive.

Also, using the old drives on a pc with an enclosure isn't as easy as it sounds either. The pc can't read the format of the ps4 card. Looks like I have to google some and find a utility that can reformat it for ps use in an enclosure.

I've only spent about 5 HOURS today trying different sd card readers, different thumb drives, and different formats trying to get the ps 4 to read a usb storage device.

Why this is such a PITA on the ps4 is beyond me.. with the wii U, I just plugged an external usb drive into it, and installed games, with no issues at all.

i could not get the right port to see my external drive but the left did/backed up/switched drives/restored

I believe I installed the OS from the right one though :whistle2:k

Sony tech support gave me the link for the os update, but you don't want that, you actually want the link that's lower down on that page for a full reinstall.

We kept using the left port, and never thought to try the other one.

With the 7200 rpm drive, the interface does seems a bit snappier, but that could also be because we don't have everything installed yet.

I read yesterday about someone with a concern the ps3 slim might run too hot with the 7200 rpm drive...has anyone used one inside that?

I thought the newegg 7200 drive was 1.5 tb, but it's only 1tb...I hope that will be enough for the ps4, because this was took much of a pain to do again.

Does anyone know what pc software you need to reformat the original ps4 and ps3 drives for pc use?

Edit: I found this old 07 testv using a faster drive replacement,  and he pretty much finds a 10% overall load speed increase with the faster drive,  and minimal heat increase.

Just to be sure, this deletes everything on the drive to be used as a PC drive, not to recognize the drive and copy ps3/ps4 files over to the PC

Press start (idk if win8 would be much different)

type partition into the search bar

only one coming up for me is 'create and format hard disk partition'

in there it'll show drives that are connected regardless of formatting

I had to delete like 20 partitions on the ps4 drive then reformat to NTFS

Don't know the difference but my OS and extra drive are that

^ To add to that, on windows 8 you can just right click the start button, find "Disk Management"

From there delete all the partitions from your old PS4 HD, then create a new volume once all the partitions are merged.

Done, and done! Thanks! (You can do that in wi7 64 bit as well.

Now its time to backup the old ps3...I'll try using the newly formatted ps4 drive in its external case for that...

I've heard people say both that 5400 rpm shouldn't matter and some say it does. Not really sure what to believe.
On the original, fat PS3's 7200 RPM drives caused overheating issues in some instances & it was recommended to stay at 5400 RPM drives.

Omg, I totally forgot how many free ps3 games we've gotten with PS+, and need to be redownloading again!

didn't they overheat with the stock drives anyway?
7200RPM drives have come a long way since the early days of the PS3. Most 7200RPM drives barely generate much more heat and take any more power than their 5400RPM drive counterparts.

I had a 750GB Scorpio Black in my PS3 for over a year and it worked without a hitch and never caused an overheating issue.

Also, the Slim and Super Slim run much cooler than a old Fat system.

Newegg is selling a Seagate 1.5 TB external hard drive for 49.99 through eBay for today. I decided to pick one up for my PS4 since I've definitely been struggling space wise.

Ok. Reread thread twice before I asked. Would this work on Xbone? So tired of deleting games and having to reinstall them because of the wonderful 500GB space!!!! At this price thinking of getting one for the Wii U as well.

Anyways. Thanks in advance Guys!

Hey WeaponX112 xbox one is a bit different (easier) than playstation consoles and their work arounds lol. Just get any size external which I believe has to be over 250gb and USB 3.0 and connect it to the console. Your xbox one will ask you to format it and make it available exclusively for xbox consoles then you can go ahead and transfer your old data onto it or just download new data onto that drive as your default. After dealing with installing a 6tb in my PS4 the other day I look at the xbox's option as a god send haha

Also the wii u is even easier. Just grab any hard drive and connect it with atleast USB 2.0. No fuss. Atleast not for me as I've thrown a bunch of old drives at it with no problem.

I am interested to know this too. Has anyone used any external HDDs on 360 and have info to share?
