Hi, my name is DonsSword, and I have been a cheap ass gamer since 1999.

I have never had a deal go bad (well, one on ebay in 1999), but I came close recently at Best Buy, but everything ended up happy. Please note that I have never had trouble with BB, and have scored plenty of closeout games from them -- so this is my little good karma story. Please excuse my sugary attitude and try not to puke, I have been playing Katamari Damacy, which I bought with a BB GGC coupon...

The first time I tried to buy KD, the disc was flawed and it would not play. When I returned it for an exchange, they were sold out, of course. So, I was only credited the purchase price, minus the coupon, which sucked.

Just my luck, the BB employee who processed my credit was a gamer, who was even interested in KD. She told me when to check for their next shipment, wrote a note on my receipt to credit me for the coupon when I returned, and to find her when I pay for it with my store credit.

When the shipment came it two weeks later, true-to-her-word, she hooked me up with a price adjustment for my coupon, so I could have my own fresh smelling copy of Katamari Damacy for the price of $15 and some change.

So, believe it or not, good cheap ass deals can go right at BB.

Hmm.. *sniffs*

Something smells fishy..

There it is! Shens! Girls don't play games!

I'm just kidding with you, man. Congrats. People talking about this game make me want to buy a PS2.. but I won't. Enjoy it!

I wasn't all that interested in your story until I read KD meant Katamari Damacy. Great to hear. Glad you got the game working.

Rainbow Road.

The 2 weeks was tough, but I have kids so my gaming is tightly budgeted.

The only part of my story that smells here is my hairy butt.

True story -- it happened in the Short Pump store in Richmond, VA. I could supply the woman's name, but that might be an invasion of privacy thing -- I would not want every geek CAG trying to hit on her. She was young, cute, but had a geek edge.

As she was helping me finish my transaction, we talked about Chulip -- another employee asked what we were excited about, so she showed her KD, and we got a funny look and said, "its a quirky Japanese game."

When all was said and done, I told her to have a good day, and she said she would because she was buying KD as soon as she got off work.

I don't know what it is about Richmond, but some of the high school aged girls at my dojo are also into games, anime, and cos-play. When I was in high school in the early 80s, people got lynched for stuff like that -- funny how times have changed.

I've never been over to the Shortpump one, how is it?

It does seem like our BBs are rather good over here though (compared to the horror stories I get from these boards...)

Now is the time that Best Buy hires their temp employees for the christmas season, she was probably one of those, no way someone that nice was a permanent employee.

Nope -- she is perm. I have seen her there before -- she normally works the returns desk and not the cash register.

Like gamefreak says, I have never had a prob with any of the BestBuys in Richmond. The south Richmond one is interesting because it sometimes has older stock, and it is directly across from a Circuit City. The Short Pump one tends to be very heavily trafficed, being between Richmond's largest office park (Innsbrook) and one of our fastest growing communities, Short Pump, not too mention most of the offices for Cap1 are nearby, where I know lots of gamers work in the IT depts.

Yeah. It auctually seems the people there are the normal steryeotypes of CC people and vice verca.
that is one fuking amazing story.
LOL! Sorry to laugh about it all, but I have just never understood the angst everyone at CAG has about BB, other than the continuosly annoying floor help who seem desparate to talk with anyone who will listen to them -- they just seem so lonely. In the mid nineties I shopped the BB in Crystal City Arlington too, and never had a prob.

Once, customer service in Richmond spent an hour going thru my entire purchase history to help find a extended warranty purchase on my $300 vacuum -- it took bloody forever for a couple of reason, including the fact that there are three people in VA with my first and last name combo. but they they helped without complaint. Also, the Christmas they cleared out Dreamcasts for $50 with 2 games, they forgot to give me my 2nd "bonus game" with purchase, a Sega Racing game that I did not want, and when I went to customer service, they just let me pick any DC game I wanted.

Keep in mind that my age (39), gray hair and beard may command more respect from the employees than a black punk rock t-shirt for the band Rancid, so that may impact who I am treated.

Richmond's a nice area. I lived around there (Chesterfield) for about 6 months for work. I haven't been back in a couple of years. Last time I was there they were building the Short Pump TC. I used to go to both the Midlothian BB/CC and the BB/CC off of Broad, not to mention the smaller CC that was part of the headquarters. I even went as far as going to the Colonial Heights CC. I don't remember if there was a BB there, though? I always found it strange that the Arby's in Short Pump had those bull statues, don't know why I remember that.

Donssword - In a strange, it's-a-small-world kind of way, I was just at the Crystal City BB last night (I live in NoVA now). It's the best one around this area as you have to pay to park so it keeps a lot of the CAGs from coming so I can usually find sale items there. It doesn't hurt that the employees never update the price tags there either. :D

* EDIT: But, I do experience the typical CAG angst with BB at the Crystal City one if I have to interact with the employees (or when they try to sell me subs to GameFly, Rewardszone, SI, etc).
you have to pay to park so it keeps a lot of the CAGs from coming
LOL!!! Do u have to pay even to use the Costco parking lot? There was an awesome Barnes & Noble/Borders (can't remember which) there back in 95.

Yep, have to pay to park at Costco even. Unless you're willing/can find parallel parking on the street around the mall. You could park at Pentagon Fashion Centre and cross the street to where BB is but that street is huge and crazy to cross.

I've only been to the bookstore there once, I want to say it's a Borders but don't quote me on that. On a somewhat related note ... When it comes to videogaming, you're probably just as much a novelty (a gray haired gamer) as that girl at Best Buy is. :D

Not making fun of ya, I'm only 8 years behind and am starting to notice some gray hairs myself!

No offense taken. Just buy me a game for my 39th birthday on Monday and u can make fun of what little hair I have left, all u want...

Yeah, this is odd, most BB employess don't know what they are talking about at least at my store.
