MGO is really fun. I loved it in Subsistence and it's even better in MGS4. I'd be up for playing with GGTers. My PSN name is DioMustaine, but my name on MGO is VicRattlehead. I'm not sure how that really works.

Let's hope they keep the servers up for more than a year this time around.

Daroga I think the way gamesharing works is you can log onto the other person's Playstation Store account and re-download the game on a different PS3.

MGO is 50/50 for me... sometimes fun, sometimes not.
No game should be allowed to be as good as MGS4. How am I supposed to go back to playing other games?
That's how I felt about Super Mario Galaxy, and yet I am still playing awesome games like MGS4 and more to come.

Got home late last night from my sister's wedding in Kentucky, and stayed up even later hooking up that triple and playing some of that MGS4 awesomeness. One of the best console games I have ever played, period. No, its not perfect, but it does so many damn things right that the imperfections are easier to overlook.

Last night I went thru all of Act 1 and am now a good ways into Act 2 on normal (Solid) difficulty. Then, I restarted a new game and played it on the easiest setting, and just went thru Act 1 again without bothering to do any stealth and just running and gunning my way thru. Awesome. I thought it was cool that I got different opening movies, and I'm wondering if this is just random, or is it based on the difficulty you select?

Anyway, I'm going back to playing it now.

BTW, my PSN callsign is Krymner, if anyone wants to friend me.
Ahahaha this thread is overflowing with MGS4 bitches.
Yeah, this is one of those times I feel left out.

The next game I'm excited for is FFTA2, but I probably won't buy it right away (sick of overpaying for Squeenix DS games, even if they're really, really good).

Morning everyone!

It's my birthday! Hooray! :oldman:

Gonna go look/listen at/to amps and speakers today with my dear wife. I think I've got a setup mostly planned to go with the new TV. It certainly not going to be what an audiophile with unlimited money would get, but it's gonna be a heck of a lot better than what we've got (amp/speakers from a HTIAB from about 7 years ago). Maybe the fronts will actually have tweeter AND a woofer in one speaker ;) Actually, kinda thinking of going floorstanding over bookshelf speakers. Not sure yet though. Have to go listen!

Beat Contra 4 on east last night, and just beat Contra 1 on its cart. Great times! :)

I'd like to play MGO, But I need to play around with my PS3 and get it to stop disconnecting from PSN. And a DNS error a pops up every now and then when I turn on the PS3.
I am remarkably slow in MGS4, only in Act 2.
Same here. I got stuck working for 11 hours for 2 days. So I haven't really played much.

Nice! Happy B-day.

As always, if you've got any questions about that HT nonsense, feel free to ask.

Happy B-day daroga!

Got my first death in MGS4. :bomb:
Those damn Gekko's!! However, the Laughing Octopus boss fight was pretty easy.

Yeah, the MGO system is pretty stupid. I don't know why it doesn't just use your PSN name, but some moron at Konami thought it would be a good idea to force you to make a new name.

Oh well. In any case, my PSN name and MGO name is mmmpepsi. We should get some GGT action going one night.

And happy b-day Daroga. Hope you get something nice ;)

Happy B-day big D. I'm still right after Drebin in Act 1 in MGS4. I haven't played much of it since the midnight release. Hopefully that changes today, but a girl wants to go out and do something with me and everyone knows girls come before dem vida ghames. ;)

Happy Birthday Daroga.

Squeezed the last few cheesemints out of MOH Airbourne (well last few I can actually be bothered getting). So I need to decide what game I'm gonna concentrate on next.:whistle2:k

For what it's worth, Chac, I have no complaints about my DefTech speakers.

I thought I needed a break from MGS4, but I have nothing else to do. So I guess it's back to the game for me.

Thanks everyone! Spent the morning shopping with my wife (including speakers and TVs ;) ).

Originally I was thinking about just getting some better fronts for the setup and replacing the rest as I went along. However, the guy at the store suggested it might be better to get a 5.1 set so that they're all properly voiced / powered. That make sense?

The space they have to fill won't be huge (probably 10x10 or a little bit bigger from couch to EC), and they'll be running on on the Onkyo 606. Would something like this do?

http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213465393&sr=8-4

I'm not sure I could get away with spending any more on a speakers, but I also don't need top of the line stuff either (I've been using a Sony HTIAB setup for the past 7 years now), but I certainly want the most bang for my buck.

Is there going to be a huge difference between the set linked above and this one? Is H/K something I should even be consdiering?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with either of those. I really, really think you should get two good front speakers and a good sub. I guarantee you that with a great 2.1 for the time being, you would have a much better experience than you would with a 5.1... especially a 5.1 from Harman-Kardon.

I finished watching the Blu-Ray that came with the MGS4 LE. Very informative. I'm not sure if I want to play through MGS4 again and try and stealth through it, or if I wanna play Metal Gear 1 and 2...

MGS4 it is.

Any suggestions on where to be looking, Chac? Brands and the like? Would the medicore speakers that I've already got from my HT setup work alright as stand-in rears until I can get around to replacing them?

He demoed some Energy speakers which had a beautifully clean treble to them.

Yeah, your mediocre speakers would be fine for rears, especially since they won't get used that much.

For speakers, I'd look at these stereo pairs:

http://www.svsound.com/products-spks-sbs01.cfm

and

http://av123.com/index.php?page=sho...facturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=37

The latter is not much better, but the finish is really nice, if you're into the whole wife approval business.

For the sub, it's going to be SVS:

http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-10nsd.cfm

That's the smaller one, and if the room you're putting this stuff in is small-ish, then it'll be more than enough. There's also the PB-12NSD which is a little bit bigger, though the price goes up quite a bit. Basically, this'll net you better sound than you get from the theater.

Only downside is that you've gotta order this stuff online... it's not at Best Buy or anything like that... but these places do have like a 30 day trial or something on their stuff, and honestly, this stuff is incredible, especially given the price.

Edit: Oh yeah, the sub is gigantic. That could be a downside for you, but if your room is set up for it, you could put the sub next to your couch and use it as a table. I'm not even joking.

How is post patch Lair? Does it fix all the gameplay problems the terribly reviewed version got? Is it worth it to get for $30 do have a good, fun PS3 experience?

Cool, glad I'm not the only one who is avoiding the stealth elements when they have a chance on at least one playthrough. And I will echo that is just sooo badass when the camera pans and zooms out just before you resume control of the game after a cutscene.

I can't stop playing this game!

still not worth it

2007 was such a disappointing year... first Lair, then Assassin's Creed... the year sucked, quite honestly. 2008 is basically what 2007 should have been.

Except on the Wii.

Happy BDay Daroga! Wouldn't it be sweet if Konami did some hi-res remakes of the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 for XBLA and PSN? I'd be all over that. I really wanna get a PS3 for MGS4, but I was gonna holdout to find a 60GB model for the BC. I might just get a 40GG though. All of the PS1 games and most of the PS2 games will look like garbage on my plasma anyway.

Well last year had uhhhh...well, the only non FPS game I liked in 2007 (on current consoles) is Uncharted I think. I can't think of anything else.

Still, so far this gen is a disappointment IMO (aside from MGS4 of course).

All my local game stores still have the MGS4 LE in stock. If I secure a job this week (I have 2 different interviews), I'll go pick it up with the MGS collection.
If there is no job. I'll just get the collection and later on the regular edition.

I woudn't call it disappointing. Mass Effect, Bioshock, Portal, Phoenix Wright 3, Persona 3, Rock Band, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword (I liked it...), Ratchet and Clank, etc.

Far from disappointing.

Well for me so far, I've enjoyed FF Crisis Core, GTAIV, AW: Days Of Ruin, DMC4, and of course MGS4.

I've yet to try out Patapon, DBZ Burst Limit, COD4 (!), TWEWY, Burnout Paradise, and just a slew of other games.

I really want to pick up 360 though so I can play NGII also.

I can't wait for Resistance 2! That game looks amazing, whoever hasn't yet, should check out the gameplay/interview at Insomniac studios on Gametrailers.

Problem is, there was nothing that was like fuckIN ZOMG AWESOME like DMC4, NG2, or MGS4.

Not entirely. The amount of characters on screen couldn't have been matched on last gen's systems. Plus, this gen is far from over.
