I need something to play. Can anyone recommend a good game. I was thinking of getting
Tales of Xillia 2 but I can't read Japanese.
Ni No Kuni
Valkyria Chronicles
Tales of Graces f
Eternal Sonata
Played the bottom three except for Ni No Kuni

Then what are you waiting for? Go buy Ni No Kuni!!! :bouncy:
Personally I cannot remember the last time I was this drawn into a game

Nier. It's the most overlooked JRPG this gen. Everything about the game--except for the graphics (looks a bit dated, but BFD)--is stunning. It's an experience that will stick with you long after you play it. If you like JRPGs and you haven't played it yet, you are literally doing yourself a disservice by not playing it. I can go into more detail if you want, but just go play fucking Nier. lol

I know not everybody enjoyed it but I really liked White Knight Chronicles (and if you get White Knight Chronicles 2 it comes with the full first game on the disc)

Since all the obvious choices were already mentioned, I'll say Resonance of Fate. I loved it.

i just picked up ni no kuni 2 days ago and already have 34 hours of playtime invested on it.
like the first few posts, i highly recommend it as well!

the others already mentioned other good games, but let me include:
-star ocean: international
-catherine (not sure if you consider it an rpg or puzzle)
-one piece: pirate warriors (psn)
-legasista (psn)

Ni No Kuni
Nier
Resonance of Fate
Folklore
Demon's Souls. I'm really surprised this hasn't been mentioned. A definite must buy.
Dark Souls
Disgaea 4
Dragon's Dogma (?) but wait for Dark Arisen in May. It's the game + expansion pack

I second this. Great game.

Otherwise try Eternal Sonata or Folklore.

Valkyria Chronicles would be my suggestion. Turn-based strategy with the story being a watered down version of WWII. After the first run through, you can go back and replay battles and get better "grades" for each one. Good replay value IMHO. The art style is unique and stands out as well.

Valkyria Chronicles is great, but the funny thing is strategy kind of goes out the window at some point when you start getting certain potentials.

Don't get me wrong: Still a VERY good game.

Seconding Nier.

Just play it. I don't get why people even whine about the graphics -- it looks fine. It's not like it looks like some godawful pixelated game or such.

True enough about the potentials. I did use the "orders" first time through to beat the game, but I haven't been using them the second time through. To me, that's part of what increases replay value.

I'll have to pick up Nier from all the suggestions. I'll search the tubes and wires for info, but more specifically, what are some of the good and bad points for the game? I appreciate threads like this, but some more details would be good.

The story in Nier is truly something different. It is not in any way a standard JRPG storyline. I'm not going to go into any more detail for the sake of not spoiling it, but suffice it to say, it is still something that I think about a couple of years after playing it. The character development is done really well. What really makes that matter even more, though, is that the characters themselves are so unusual and interesting. I need to really stress that it is a mature story. Yes, there is a female companion that does nothing but cuss and talk trash, but that is as juvenile as it gets--and that's just her defense mechanism, anyway lol. These are real characters with real problems that react in real ways. It adds a lot of impact to what is going on.

The music is dominated by haunting vocal melodies--vocals are usually the main focus, but it's not a capella. I have never heard another soundtrack like it, and I still listen to it frequently. It is wonderful. The world itself is interesting to explore, and there are many interesting locations to go to. The gameplay is kept interesting by some very creative boss battles and some interesting puzzle sections. It is easily one of the most criminally overlooked JRPGs of all time. It's too bad SE sent it out to die with little marketing and a terrible name.

I think it was the reviews and lack of hype Nier had that prevented it from doing well. The game does have a following though, mostly through a lot of positive word of mouth.

For me the strengths were an amazing soundtrack, main characters as well as sub characters are well developed, and very fun boss battles. I also liked how a second play through the game added back story and the POV of the "bad guys," --again, very good character development.

Valkyria Chronicles is by far my favorite PS3 RPG, even though it's a SRPG. Eternal Sonata was also enjoyable. But you've already played those two so I guess there's no point in talking about it. The only two I'd recommend playing are Ni No Kuni and Nier.

Ni No Kuni is definitely great and worth playing, but it's got a few of minor flaws/nuisances that prevents it from being a fantastic RPG. The crap AI is the one thing that makes earlier part of the game somewhat frustrating. Visuals and music are great, story (especially near the end) and characters are great. There's lots of things to do in the game but the lack of faster travel means until the latter parts of the game and the sometimes chance dependent goals in quests made many of the sidequests tedious, rather than fun.

I played Nier just recently after hearing so much fan praise for the game and I thought it was a pretty good game if you can overlook the flaws like the repetitive combat and odd design during some parts (usually by way of limiting the camera angle). The music is definitely the star of the game, without question. The setting/characters are pretty interesting but the story doesn't pick up until the 2nd half. Interesting thing about the game is that, when going for the subsequent endings, they only make you play the second half (which was a welcomed decision).

Otherwise, there aren't too many JRPGs on the PS3 that I think are substantially worth noting, stuff like FFXIII and the Atelier games which are worth trying, at least.
