Here is the most up to date compiled list of all known guide deals listed and posted for this thread and similar threads. I will update this list as people post new guide deals. Everything listed in this thread “should” be the price listed or lower. These prices are typically company wide price reductions and not YMMV. But just because the prices are typically universal does not mean that they are guaranteed to be sold to you. Most stores have a destroy clause with the guide companies. So whether or not you get these guides depend on many many factors from how diligent a staff is to how reasonable or friendly one is. Good luck on any you may find and good luck on acquiring them. If anything is incorrect or missing please post so corrections can be made.


Now you can just cut, paste, print, and GO!!!



How you can help: You can keep a printed copy of this list in your jacket, wallet, purse whatever and when you go to any store that carries guides look for guides for games that have been out typically around six months or more and ask for a price check or better yet use a store scanner if they are available. If they are anything less than cover price write it down for us. Also please when you post the info here if it looks like it’s a temporary sale, please post that as well otherwise it will be assumed to a be a permanent price reduction. If you scan a guide and it comes up a different price that what the master lists suggests please list the day and store that you had the guide scanned. Also please list if you physically saw a self-scanner’s price, physically saw a cash registers price or vocally heard a price from the store’s staff. This might sound like a lot and of course we will take what we can get but this will go a long way to having the best master list as well as ferreting out different store practices and policy’s. All help is appreciated and thank you.




Trading: I spoke with the post office and found out that the cheapest form of mailing to the 48 contiguous states would be to use “media mail” It will take a little longer but it will also allow the least amount of money per transaction when trying to acquire guides for your collection. For an average guide weight of about 9 oz its $1.42 cents. All you need to do is put it in an envelope and ship it media mail. He mentioned no one should have a problem if you use the same envelope several times to cut down on costs. He also mentioned that when shipping Media mail that you cannot have any personal correspondence in the envelope. Only books and an invoice are acceptable. If trading is in you interest you do whatever is most comfortable for you and your trading party this was merely a FYI and a good way to keep it cheap.

Looking for assistance: I am looking for some staff from Best Buy’s, EB’s, Gamestop’s and stores of the like. When EB Games or Gamestop has a price reduction their shelves can be empty in a day or two to even as little as just a few hours. EB and Gamestop have daily price changes so all depending on the store’s staff they could be all gone almost immediately. If I could get some staff that can either post here first thing any day that they have a price reduction on guides or that might be able to text message me with such price reductions so that I might be able to inform CAG’ers ASAP. Whether or not us the end user would actually be able to get them from a particular stores staff is very much an YMMV but if there is anyone who can help this would greatly increase the chance’s of CAG’ers being able to pick up guides from these locations. Actually after taking a quick look at that guide, I think the art work in the original is much better. There're no posters of any kind inside.
 
the only guides i picked up at best buy were 3 empire earth II and 2 xmen legends II i didnt get a chance to ask about the other guides cuz i was in a rush
 
I stopped by last night and obtained everything except for SOTC, Xmen Legends II, and Warriors. If anyone wants to trade for any of the BB recent drop, I can get pretty much any of those guides (they're loaded with them). I'm mostly looking to trade for older guides, but I'm willing to look at Trade lists as well.
 
Got shot down at EB at lunch. Had Black and White 2 and F.E.A.R. and he wouldn't give them to me. Said they had to be sent back to publisher, covers ripped off, blah blah.
THey should rip off the covers then leave the guides for people to take - everyone wins there for the most part.
 
does anyone know if the half-life art book dropped to a penny at BB? Also, does anyone know if the Star Ocean guide is a penny anywhere (like at GS or EB?) THanks!

Just got back from EB and they gave me 3 FullMetalAlchemist 2s, 2 Battalion Wars, a Shining Tears, a Genji and a Star Fox Assault. All of them (minus one FMA 2) are getting ready to be updated into my TL.

I've been more and more surprised at how nice the GS, EB & BB employees have been to me about these. I definitely need to check this thread more often. Thanks everyone.
 
I am really mad right now because I went to EB and asked where all the guides were. She said the ones they don't sell anymore are all gone and most of them were trash. I even checked the dumpster where I think they would be but they were not there.

They had a ton of guides too.
 
I missed the EB drop yesterday . . . so I called about noon today and they said I could have some. So I ran over and the guy said he couldn't do it then because they were stacked way in back and he was alone. I had to wait 30 min. for another guy to come in and then he went in back and came out with 2 stacks of guides (I dragged a huge pile out to my car . . . maybe 40 pounds worth).

Then I had to really rush back to work (was a few minutes late for my 1 pm class. Don't even know all of what's in the bags yet. I did get RCtycoon 3 for my son! and a few I wanted but no Psychonauts or Conker . . . the employees picked out the good ones for themselves . . . which is cool.

The guys at EB were super cool (I bought a game).

Anyone with an extra Psychonauts and Conker . . . PM me. I have many, many of the latest drops.

me neither...i have yet to hit a TRU up either, though I knew they pennied guides out...the problem with TRU is that some times they'll have an old lady or an old man working the games department who i would imagine would give me a hard time...

I love the employee at EB. He gave me Killer 7 previously. Just debating how much I want to exploit him. He always tells me "these have no value, they're yours", but I don't want to follow that up with "Oh, could you give me the other ten guides on this list?" The cashier at Best Buy just asked me why they were so cheap. I am keeping Battalion Wars and Advance Wars, but the BB guides are potentially up for trade/sale (I plan on owning those games eventually but don't yet; and if I go back again tomorrow and can get duplicates, they're definitely up for sale)

Crap, now I have to actually work up a tradelist.

My local EB is great! They let me pick and choose from the stack they will eventually pitch. This one waits a few days before trashing the extras, unlike the local BBs and GSs.

I promised them that I will buy new games and pre-orders from them exclusively. Screw the other places.

Awesome, awesome day... the EB employees were really friendly, they let me take anything I could find that they missed, they were very very cool about the whole thing. What I just now realized, is that I brought up the SF Anniversary guide, and the guy told me it wasn't a penny, but I see on the master drop list it is? I already own one, but I'm wondering if he took that one for himself - he did give me the two psychonauts and the shadow hearts: covenant though. Need to go back for that Xenosaga 2 I missed, as well, so maybe he put it back on the shelf.

Best Buy was a bust all over, just grabbed the guides they missed, found some more on one of the desks just sitting there so I snatched those too.

Real surprised that Suikoden IV is still full price, though.

Oh, I found a store with Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, and it is still full price at EB. Also, the latest round of drops at GS (rebelstar, urban reign, quake 4) are still full price at EB as of tonight.

I had seen alot of people asking if it was, because all the other DJ books (Genji, Makai Kingdom) went down to a penny.

I finally saw a copy at EB, price checked it, it's still full price, so it's not a penny yet.

my ebgames they have a lot of guides still on there shelves i am gonna check to see what guides they have. but every time i go there the manager scans it and says its full price when i know it isnt.

don't they have the registers where they're built into the counter and you can see the price for yourself? that's how mine are and i always have my eyes on the monitor

How is the Shadow of the Colossus guide? I struck out at Best Buy despite the fact the website says they have them(even now after closing tonight), 3 Gamestops and 1 EB but pulled off a minor miracle and found a Shining Tears at my local Gamestop when I went in to preorder Tales of Legendia for the sweet sweet artbook they better give me eventually. It saddens me that I found tons of the regular Xenosaga II guides but none of the special edition ones that are pennied. Also, how on earth is the Star Ocean III guide still full price? I doubt I'll ever get Shining Tears just because the demo didn't do much for me but it's cool to have the guide I guess. Unless anyone wants to trade for it?

With today I have managed a whole whopping two scores on penny guides so:

and La Pucelle Tactics I bought used at GS before that I'd trade.

If the Shadow of the Colossus guide has any good art I'd be up to trade for it or Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Or if anyone happens to have any old random RPG guides PSX/PS2(Legaia 2, either Xenosaga, etc) I'd probably be interested if I have the game.
 
I went to a different Best Buy farther away from my house since I had to attend a business meeting, and I hit the jackpot, every guide on the Best Buy recent drop list was on the shelf marked at 1 cent.

On a side note, I picked up a Xenosaga 2 limited edition guide yesterday and the CD inside was destroyed (it was cracked within the plastic) If anyone has this CD that could assist me in obtaining the music, it would be greatly appreciated

Maybe because there really isn't that much info in it, this SoC guide is really a beautiful book. Really nice art and sprinkled with production sketches throughout.

It's one of the Brady Signature Series . . . on these you usually get your penny's worth :)

Anyone have a Conker?
