Here is the most up to date compiled list of all known guide deals listed and posted for this thread and similar threads. I will update this list as people post new guide deals. Everything listed in this thread “should” be the price listed or lower. These prices are typically company wide price reductions and not YMMV. But just because the prices are typically universal does not mean that they are guaranteed to be sold to you. Most stores have a destroy clause with the guide companies. So whether or not you get these guides depend on many many factors from how diligent a staff is to how reasonable or friendly one is. Good luck on any you may find and good luck on acquiring them. If anything is incorrect or missing please post so corrections can be made.


Now you can just cut, paste, print, and GO!!!



How you can help: You can keep a printed copy of this list in your jacket, wallet, purse whatever and when you go to any store that carries guides look for guides for games that have been out typically around six months or more and ask for a price check or better yet use a store scanner if they are available. If they are anything less than cover price write it down for us. Also please when you post the info here if it looks like it’s a temporary sale, please post that as well otherwise it will be assumed to a be a permanent price reduction. If you scan a guide and it comes up a different price that what the master lists suggests please list the day and store that you had the guide scanned. Also please list if you physically saw a self-scanner’s price, physically saw a cash registers price or vocally heard a price from the store’s staff. This might sound like a lot and of course we will take what we can get but this will go a long way to having the best master list as well as ferreting out different store practices and policy’s. All help is appreciated and thank you.




Trading: I spoke with the post office and found out that the cheapest form of mailing to the 48 contiguous states would be to use “media mail” It will take a little longer but it will also allow the least amount of money per transaction when trying to acquire guides for your collection. For an average guide weight of about 9 oz its $1.42 cents. All you need to do is put it in an envelope and ship it media mail. He mentioned no one should have a problem if you use the same envelope several times to cut down on costs. He also mentioned that when shipping Media mail that you cannot have any personal correspondence in the envelope. Only books and an invoice are acceptable. If trading is in you interest you do whatever is most comfortable for you and your trading party this was merely a FYI and a good way to keep it cheap.

Looking for assistance: I am looking for some staff from Best Buy’s, EB’s, Gamestop’s and stores of the like. When EB Games or Gamestop has a price reduction their shelves can be empty in a day or two to even as little as just a few hours. EB and Gamestop have daily price changes so all depending on the store’s staff they could be all gone almost immediately. If I could get some staff that can either post here first thing any day that they have a price reduction on guides or that might be able to text message me with such price reductions so that I might be able to inform CAG’ers ASAP. Whether or not us the end user would actually be able to get them from a particular stores staff is very much an YMMV but if there is anyone who can help this would greatly increase the chance’s of CAG’ers being able to pick up guides from these locations. Afro its out there but odds of it still being in stock in any store are VERY low. Same deal as makai.

I'll check my gamestop out friday when i mail out some packages to see if they have any warhammer guides. They have a pretty decent selection of pennied guides there i've been able to snag.
 
Anybody checked out Best Buy recently? I know they have a ton of guides just waiting to be pennied out. Just wondering when it'll happen (if it hasn't already).

On another note, I found a bunch of old penny guides at my local BB.
Tonight's haul includes:
Medal of Honor: European Assault
Destroy All Humans
Forza Motorsport
Darkwatch
Call of Duty: Finest Hour
and one very beat up Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth

If anyone is interested in some of these, there were multiples of a lot of them. I can try to grab some more if you let me know.

I also located a bunch of Driv3r guides at BB, but they came up at $14.99.
 
Check my tradelist if anyone has a copy of sigma star to spare. I have most of the recent price drops, as well as other stuff, the only one I'm really missing is makai (only found 1 copy and it's mine).

This might be local but today i snagged 27 copies of Metal Gear Solid 3 for $.01 each :) The guy actually told me if i wanted them for a penny i'd have to take em all so i have a feeling they were trying to make more room in store.

He also gave me 8 copies of Ultimate Spiderman and 8 copies of Tekken 5 for $.01.

At least read the post. He claims that the store employee told him all or nothing. I cannot verify this claim, but if true, then taking 27 is justifiable. Hopefully he'll be willing to hook other CAGs up.

Also, anyone confirm that Ultimate Spider-man dropped at BB?

I notice there are several guides that are no longer on BB's website - Rainbow six lockdown, From Russia with love, Spartan total warrior, amongst others. Does this mean anything? Why would they just drop Ultimate spiderman to 0.01? There's gotta be more!
 
I thought it was odd that the guy said i had to take em all. i couldnt tell if he was joking but i wasn't going to question him. I'll be listing all my guides tonight and they are all up for grabs. I might be able to swing by best buy tomorow to check some of those guides, if i do i'll let you know if they are marked down.

If the guides aren't on the BB site, that's normally a sign they're going to penny out, or have been pennied out. Time for random guide scans @ BB.

Unexpected haul at Gamestop today. I never have any luck there, and actually didn't even go in for guides - I was there for the buy-2-get-1 sale. Saw the manager clearing out guides, and when I asked if he minded if I took any, he said "Sure, they'll just be thrown away otherwise". He actually stacked them on the counter to let anyone take what they wanted - very cool, I must say. I grabbed these (which I haven't seen listed yet):

Checked Spartan Warrior and Ultimate Spiderman at my Best Buy. Both came up full price. However, the Spartan guide came up as 'not in the system' upon first scan, which according to my previous experience is a sign of a penny guide happening soon...

Seems logical. Oh well, I'll try the gamestops around here tomorrow for the other drops, although they've been super fast at cleaning their guides lately.

Good thing I am going GS hopping today, trying to score one of the used Guitar Hero guitars a couple of my GSes say they have in-stock. Maybe I can score some of these guides.
 
I've seen that Genji and Makai Kingdom guides are pennied out at EB/GS. Any word on the other Double Jump guide Castlevania: DoS? That seemed to disappear from the local stores along with the others.

grrr i was there today and she said there was some a few days ago (the ones alreasy posted) but they were already gone. The only saving grace is that I dont remember any of those on this list being there a few days ago. That would be a heck of a coincidence. Can any GS employee's confirm a change of policy where they get a list of guides dropping before hand like TRU does (3-5 or so days ahead) or if its still the daily price drop sheet ¿? Thanks.

I am a GS employee and I've never known people to know ahead of time that guides have dropped. You can't check for price adjustments ahead of time.
 
Ok i'm heading to GS in a minute and i'll try to confirm the guides Kuros listed when I get back. I know mine has at least 5-6 of them in stock since i was there yesterday.

Sweet Kuros I checked my store and for some reason they disposed of all of them already. I've never known them to do that before so I'm hoping its not a future pattern. I sent you a PM with the guides i'd like.

Anyone know if these guides are marked down at EB or if EB marked down any?

No, it's YMMV... I've done it that way, and the cashier changed all the prices back up, or refused to sell them.

On other occasions, they just gave them to me for free.

If anyone can get me Half Life 2: Raising The Bar I can pay CASH or I have Advance Wars: Dual Strike guide for trade. As much as I want that book, I'm not going through the hassle of checking 10 GS's again only to come up emptyhanded when they've already pulled all the guides.
 
dang.. i was just in their store.. getting kuon also.. could have grab the Half Life one.. oh well.. I have no use for it anyway.. if i wanna go back there, I don't have the gut to just bring up the pennied guide alone without buying their games :(

Ok well i don't need it Kuros so don't worry about me. Do you have the other guides I requested available? Doom 3, Fear, Empire Earth 2, and Geist.

Also Kuros do you know if these prices are valid at EB?
