AFF25 to expire Aug 23?

CAGiversary!
TechBargains.com is now reporting that the beloved EBgames.com AFF25 discount code will expire next Monday. I don't know how reliable this is, or where techbargains got their info, but I thought I should warn everybody just in case.

Yes, it is true.
I got an email earlier in the week and I emailed EB to see if this was confidential. They never emailed be back, until right now.

As of August 23rd the coupon code AFF25 will expire. Please remove this
coupon code August 23, 2004.

We are replacing this coupon with a new code AFF15 (15% off preplayed
games). This coupon will be combinable with the new EB Edge card
discount program, which can be joined by visiting any of our stores and paying
$5 for an annual subscription. (The EB Edge discount will not be
available until August 23rd 2004).The net result is a continued 25% discount for those that join the EB Edge card discount program.
Sucks to be them. I won't be buying anything from them if it isn't less then $10.
Why? Noone else offers an extra 25% off every pre-owned game. It was an extra bonus.. I'm sure I'll still buy from them.

Gamestop has it this month with code 25BTS, but you have to take your chance on whether or not you get the case and manual.

AFF25 was an outstanding coupon code and there is no question that wall of us will miss her.

IMHO, $5 a year for a 10% off card (which amounts to 25% online) is a good deal.

You still can get 25% off, it just costs you $5 a year now. Its worth it.

I wonder if this will apply to those of us who already have a card. I think it would be cool to see how much money I've spent with EB (especially since becoming a CAG), both online and otherwise. (this is assuming they would link my Edge card number with my online account and allow me to see my purchasing history)

Then again, it might scare me into never buying another game again.

Do you guys think the 10 doller a year subscription to GMR would give u that extra %10 card? Or is it only available by the $5 sub.

I think the $5 10% off card is a fuck of a lot better than $10 and getting a worthless magazine as well. Hopefully GS follows suit... but I doubt it since they're money-grubbing asshats.

Sorry if this is a stupid question :Do you think the coupon 'saver' for free shipping will be able to be used w/ the new 25% if you buy the card? Because if your order is only like $20 its cheaper to use the 15% and free shipping than to use the 25% and pay 1.99 for shipping. (what ive been doing for my last few orders)
THanks

I haven't ordered anything from eb since they ditched free shipping. I was mainly ordering used games in the $7-$13 range (after AFF25) and the extra $2 killed most deals for me. (That and I probably ordered most of what I wanted before they canned free shipping anyway.)

I doubt I'll be paying $5 for an extra 10% off. You'd have to buy $50 in used games a year just to break even (and all from ebgames) Plus they often drag their feet with lowering the price of used games when they drop the new game's version price. I'd just end up getting worked up over that if I had paid for a discount on used stuff.

But thanks for the info Cheapy, good to know.
Ehh, you still get the 25% off.. you just have to pay a $5 a year subscription.. thats not that bad.
Yea I'll probably get the Edge card thing just so I can get 25% off online for the next year. Not bad at all. Also get 10% in store, but a couple questions.

-Does the 10% instore only apply to PO games?
-Will we be able to stack PPLAY15/AFF15, SAVER, and the Edge card to finally get 25% off AND Free Shipping?! Would be nice for those dropping $5 on the card.
-And I'm wondering if multiple people could use the same Edge card online. i.e. I let my bro or friend use it on their EB account and not mine. I doubt it would since then one person could get the card and then everyone and anyone could just use it.

I'll miss the infamous AFF25, but as long as you can buy one of those cards and use SAVER/PPLAY15 with it, I don't mind dropping 5 dollars on one of these "edge cards".

Are these already in-store for 5 dollars now?

If you combine it with the online code it pays off faster.

is there anything from using someone else's EB discount card ? How would they know that only you are using your own card?

Doubt SAVER will be able to be used with the new code, seeing as how it isn't pplay15. AFF15 must be non-combinable.

Well, I can get 15% off without paying $5, so I don't think I should really factor that additional 15% into the equation.

Though if (as some have wondered here) it can still be combined with saver that does sweeten it. Still (unless they change that too) I can get 15% off and free shipping without paying $5.

Heck $5 gets you a full game these days :)

This is almost the last straw I've had with EBGames.com. First, they get rid of free shipping on everything. OK, whatever. Then they add tax. Now they're taking away the one thing that differentiates them from other online retailers? Sorry EBGames, but that's way too much. You've probably lost my business because of this. The only reason they were good in the first place was for the older games, which IMO their selection is still unparalelled, besides with ebay of course.

You know they don't actually "add" tax, right? I believe that ebgames.com merging operations with EB stores caused them to have a business presence in every state, which causes them to have to pay (and thus charge) sales tax for items sold. There are some people who are happy about the merge as the prices are usually more closely associated and you can return in-store.

I have an existing Edge card and I took a look at the site. It says to get the discount you need to have a yellow sticker added to your card. I've had my card for about 2 months and it already has the sticker, so I don't know if I'm set up. I paid $10 for the card and subscription and the sticker came on it.

Thing is though, you're supposed to but your 12 digit account number into the coupon code field, and as far as I can see I can only put in 9 characters right now. AFF25 appeared to still be working, so maybe it will kick in tomorrow?

update:

I just ordered a used game from EBgames was able to use PPLAY15 for 15%, my Edge card for 10%, and SAVER for free shipping. So, if it lasts, this deal is as good as ever. Whatever they're asking for these cards is well worth being able to get 25% off plus free shipping on used games, IMO.

Thanks for the update! Now that I know it works, I'll probably pick one up this week. :D

I have the Gamestop card/magazine, but find that most of the time, the prices and deals are much better online. Funnily enough, out of all the "free" gaming magazines I get, the Game Informer from Gamestop is actually one of my favorites.

So do I have this straight... you can buy the Gamecard with magazine for $10, or just buy the $5 card with no magazine? Is the magazine worth the extra $5? Thanks...

Hypothetically would one get banned from these forums for distributing their Edge code thinger?

Might make it clear before people try it.

That will not be allowed.
Besides, when you buy the card, you have to give picture ID and my guess is this to prevent users from "sharing" their code.
