Alien Anthology Blu-Ray 29.99 @ Amazon

Thank you OP! Missed out on the lightening deal a few weeks ago and was kicking myself about it. Was hoping I would see it

Hah, I ended up making a 25 mile round-trip today to get to the nearest BBY that had one in stock, just so I could PM the Fry's ad for 27.99.

Could've just used my AMZ Cred instead, but oh well. I visited a new GS I'd never been to on the way back, made up for the gas there.

Good find, OP.

In! I missed out on this deal when Amazon.uk had it for ~$23 or whatever a week or so ago, so I'm glad to get this.

Oh, nice! This is exactly what I wanted! What are the odds of something actually going my way for once? Thanks for informing me of this!
Is this worth getting if you own the 9 disc DVD version?
i remember some years back on avsforum (or somewhere else) that the transfers weren't great and that the 9 disc dvd collection may as well be considered the definitive version, for now.
Is this worth getting if you own the 9 disc DVD version?
absolutely, not only for the upgrade in PQ/AQ, but the extras too. There's over 70 hours of extras included I believe, which is insane Plus the packaging for it is pretty awesome
Does anyone have an opinion on the packaging here? I tend to steer away from cardboard disc holding-ness.
It's pretty much the exact same packaging as the Star Wars complete set, if you've seen that. It looks like a book, and the "pages" that the disks go in are very thick & sturdy. I like it, it looks & feels very high-end.

Yeah it looks very high end. People have misconceptions that they damage discs, but the chances of that happening are extremely slim with Blu-rays, and proper care.
Now I finally regret not waiting for the US set to drop in price. Oh well, the UK set is still nice.
Yeah, same. The US packaging does look a bit nicer and easier to open, though. Aside from the Comicon special edition that appeared on eBay a few weeks ago, this is probably the best presentation for this set.

Good pickup for anyone still on the fence.

There are actually FOUR versions of the Disc housing out there:

1.) The Collectors Edition Alien-Egg case, with a CD-jewel case-sized (x/y dimesions) fold-pack, that fit into the base of the Egg.

2.) A Blu-Ray sized Fold-pack, that is very similar to the original Quadrilogy 6ft unfolding monstrosity

3.) A "Book"-style release, with each page showing art/info on the film, and a disc in its own housing.

4.) A reprint of the UK version that uses 2 multi-disc blu-ray cases inside a slipcover.

That said, the MU-TH-UR experience also includes a subtitle trivia-track for each of the 4 films, and I fucking love those (pop up video from Vh1!). Also, the Blu-ray has the COMPLETE, UNEDITED Alien3 documentary. The DVD-quadrilogy release had ~20-30 minutes of content cut from it, mostly David Fincher talking about how Fox fucked up the production & his frustrations in having to 'fix' it.

I'm not getting rid of my Quadrilogy boxset anytime soon, as I still like to have copies to watch on my non-HD TVs / computer when the PS3 is in use.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share the above.

To be clear, all four versions above have the same on-disc content, right?

The UK re-release Alien Anthology 6-disc set is just one jumbo amaray case inside a slipcover. There's also a newer alien anthology 4-disc set in the UK with the movies, whcih they should have called a Quadrilogy set to avoid confusion.

anyway here's an uboxing for the UK re-release:

There's also a few other variations including a "Facebhugger edition" found in some other regions (Spain, Germany, and I think Japan among others):

Also spotted this on blu-ray.com, here's the complete list of extras. It's seriously insane. This should be the same with all 6 disc sets around the world (perhaps some language track differences), the 4 disc sets are just first 4 listed here.

Yeah if you like the alien movies and don't all ready own the old Quadrilogy set. This is a great deal. It's some of the most fun I've ever had watching extras. The extras for Alien 1 where my favorite. it showed the most of HR Giger and seeing how condescending the two writers Dan O'Bannon and David Giler are to each other was hilarious. I will probably upgrade to the blu-ray set.
The UK re-release Alien Anthology 6-disc set is just one jumbo amaray case inside a slipcover. There's also a newer alien anthology 4-disc set in the UK with the movies, whcih they should have called a Quadrilogy set to avoid confusion.
Ah, my mistake. I had assumed it was a pair of cases, given the pictures on the UK listing, since I didn't know there actually were double-wide amaray cases. Thanks for the heads up.
Ships in 11-12 Days!?!? Ah well went ahead and got it. Been waiting for it to dip this low again. Thanks OP!
Mine's estimated to ship tomorrow. :D

Mine shipped today and is suppoded to be delivered by tuesday. Didn't think it would be this fast.

It will be really cool if they can package this with the Alien Head..

Also, there's a face hugger edition of this Alien Anthology.. BluRay package.

Looks Amazon is going to jack this up in price.. $63.49

That's the price for Amazon seller "nebob". It's still 28.96 direct from Amazon.

Note: Amazon isn't listed as the primary seller because the shipping lead-time is 10 to 11 days. Amazon's display defaults to the cheapest "in stock" seller.
I can't verify if it's the nicer US edition or just the standard big case without the nice booklet packaging.
I'm gonna pick this up at my Fry's tonight after work, I'll let you know.

It's the book style one. It's the only packaging option available in the US for the anthology set. It was sold out online earlier in the week, so it's nice to see it available for shipping again.

Yeah, didn't get a chance to find out - even though I could have ordered one for store pickup there was none in the store to be found. I hate Fry's - it's such a mess. I got BestBuy to price-match after they looked online and saw Fry's price and that they had it in stock (even though they actually didn't)

Got mine yesterday but I had ordered the Diablo 3 CE guide(in another order weeks before oddly) that shipped with it so it got plastic wrapped to the top of the book so it came in nice condition in a box.

anyway here's an uboxing for the UK re-release:

There's also a few other variations including a "Facebhugger edition" found in some other regions (Spain, Germany, and I think Japan among others):

Does that box cover look a little odd to anyone else?
What's odd about it? It's a facehugger which Alien fans tend to love for some reason (I like the movie, but hate those damn things).

I think he's referring to how it looks like male junk, for lack of a better term, as well as not being aware of cag's language guidelines.

lol I don't really see it, but if we're playing the Rorschach game then it kind of looks like a lower verterbrae/Pelvic bone area if anything

So the version that is on now at Amazon, is that the good version with the full list of special features ? I seem to remember that there was a version that included just the movies and a very limited number (if any) of the special features which are supposed to be great.

It' the good verson has special features on each disc then 2 more discs filled with special features. The only think that was kind of disappointing was there was no commentary by David Fincher for Alien 3.
