All USED PC Games are .01 at EBGames B&M YMMV (depends if your stores still has any)

CAGiversary!
EB stores are clearing out all used pc games from their inventory. On Thursday 7/13/06 they were all marked down to a penny. YMMV since a lot of EB stores don't have any more PC games, but the ones that do will have them for a penny.

I manage to get

Dugeon Siege 2
Thief 3
Sid Mieres pirates
Unreal 2004 Directors Cut
Star Wars KOTOR
Lord of the Rings Battle For Middle Earth

I can't express how badly I want to go to EB and get some games before they're all gone! But unlike most people on this site, I don't have my license yet

I still have to get rides from friends when they are available
I totally agree. Too bad we live in the world of bureaucracy, local stores have to go through so much paperwork for donation.
Save up your pennies man!
Just go to www.CheapAssVehicles.com where CheapyD's cousin CheapyB runs the sight...after moving from LA to Uruguay (Your guy in Uruguay)
I was going to throw a magazine rack down and walk out... but no one here would have got the joke so I just left.
Come on, at least Roufuss probably got it.
How is this an "advertised price?"

Answer: It isn't. They don't have to honor it.
Not advertised, but if you had an employee price check it like any game, they would have to tell you the price listed in the system.

And...? That does not mean they have to honor it. If an employee denys you, and you call the DM, you think he is going to do anything about it? Nope. You can contact the BBB, or the magical 'price fairy' all you want, EB in no shape or form has to honor anything thats marked in there COMPUTER (not on the product) as a penny.

Nearly every state has laws that protect stores and exempt them from having to honor a price mistake that is obvious and un-intentional. The only time a store REALLY has to honor a price is if its posted in an ad and its not a price mistake.

Now if you had gotten a gamestop/eb ad saying they had games for $.01 that would be different.

I hit my only local EB yesterday still carrying used PC games. They had quite a few as of 2 weeks ago, like Battlefield 2 with all expansions, KOTOR, Diablo II, etc etc... when I got their, the associate on duty told me "we threw those away in the dumpster 2 days ago." Sumofabitch.. talk about a bust. I asked him if they kept any or sold any of them, and he said they loaded them all into a box and tossed them.

Visted all three in the Little Rock area, nothing. Handful at the North Little Rock store but nothing even worth a penny.

First post, btw. Long time lurker though. :)

Meh, one of my 3 EBs just tossed all the stuff, didnt check the other two yet. This seems to be the same deal as pennyd out guides.

Quick! Into the dumpster!

I asked the guy about them when trading in some stuff, and unfortunately they must have tossed them when he wasn't working. He was as bummed as I was.

...And you didn't go dumpster diving? WTF

During my normal saturday thrift store visits, I discovered one place where the penny PC games wound up: Goodwill. One I visited had a whole pile of them and they were marked $10 per.

...they most likely came from another place, unless one of the stores felt like being robin hood and acting against coporate policy to do a good deed

No glitter?
The ones I called said they took a razor to all of the CDs...
That seems to be policy for most retail chains; GameRush did the same thing, if I recall, for old Dreamcast and PS1 games.

Ok... let me break it down for everyone.

EB has had these used PC games for years, at this point. IIRC, they stopped taking in used PC games sometime last year, so these games have rotted on the shelf, taking up valuable shelf space. Some EB's I went to had whole sections devoted to nothing but used PC games, now they are using that section for product that actually sells.

EB already clearanced these games out.... MANY of these PC games were anywhere from 99 cents - $9.99, with a large majority of them being 99 cents - $2.99. Go dig up my old thread to see just how many PC games were on clearance at some amazing (imo) prices.

Nobody still bought the games then... at this point, EB has already taken a loss on the games since they've sat there since the dawn of time, and they would continue to sit there even longer, taking up extremely valuable shelf space. Yea, it sucks they are just throwing them away, but it's honestly a waste of manpower to ring up 50 one cent items, and it would create havoc if they just place a giant "free" sign on the games, as the average customer is too stupid to be able to handle something like that.

I wish there was a better way, but honestly, for EB, they've tried EVERYTHING in their power to get rid of this shit... I even remember when they did 70% off all used PC games at one point, and that barely made a dent in the stores around here.

EB has already wrote all these games off as a loss, so yea, they are losing absolutely nothing by just throwing them all away... they aren't going to make their money back as it is.

A true CAG will look at a game and think, "I'm not sure I'd pay 3 cents for it, and really, at 2 cents it's overpriced, but I might pay a penny for it. Or, if they had a buy 2 penny games, get a third penny game for free, I'd pick it up as the free one."

:D
Snagged Shellshock Nam '67 for a penny. The only used game there.
woohoo picked up madden 1998 for $0.01 in credit

The reality is that if they would spend 5 minutes doing some sort of imaginative marketing, they would have come up with a better idea. This is just plain laziness on their part. One good option would have been to give out one free game to anyone who purchased a new PC game. They could either do a marketing promo and let people choose a game, or just keep them behind the counter and give them out at random with each order. Even doing the latter, they would create enough customer good will and confidence that it would be worth much more than selling them even at 50% off. It's not all about dollars and cents in the business world. The reason that GameStop doesn't care in doing anything like this is because they have no competition. Why spend time doing creative marketing when people are going to go to the only dedicated game store in town anyway.

They were always difficult to look through. Most didn't have boxes. Just hundreds in cd jewel cases or their own store packaging. Me, a hardcore pc gaming junkie would even get tired of digging through them. I think the problem was they took in a lot of crap nobody wanted anyway and then priced them to much as the new versions. The only time I bought the used games was when they had the sales on them like that fabulous 75% sale last year.

This isn't a bad idea, though it's possible that it would have been more hassle than it's worth. Once more people heard about it, they'd be coming in wanting a certain used game when they bought a new game, causing the clerks to spend time looking for said used game. Given that used games are always of dubious quality, and the video game intelligence level of most EB/GS customers is pretty low, it wouldn't be surprising if EB had a lot of people coming in returning their free games and demanding a game that isn't scratched and will work on their PIII 600 at home. Either way, it would cost EB more money (in the form of employees' time) than simply throwing the games out would.

I'd love to see intelligent marketing used with this great stuff they throw out, but I'm not sure it's a cut-and-dried situation.

I've never understood that. PC games just don't hold their market value as well as console games, so why treat their pricing the same? I love playing both current and classic PC games, but I also know that there's little reason that any PC game that came out in '02 should be priced close to one that came out this month.
