Am I cheap?

CAGiversary!
I walked into a Blockbuster with $530 in my wallet. I have no financial liabilties already assigned to that money. All of my bills are paid and there is nothing at all I need the money for. I happend to see a used game I wanted on Blockbuster's shelf for $20. It's a game I've already played and beat, but loved every minute of it. MSRP is currently $40, so it's a pretty good deal at $20. However, Blockbuster has 10 used copies for sale. Knowing this, the price will probably be reduced to $15 within time. On the other hand, I could be wrong and the game could sell out at $20. I walked up to the front counter and informed them of the particular game of which they had 10 copies for sale and asked if the price was negotiable, hoping I could get it now for $15 rather than having to wait for the price to drop. Of course, they said 'no' as it was corporate's decision, so I walked out of the store empty-handed even though I wanted the game. Does this catergorize me as a cheap-ass?

In my defense, I have a massive backlog that could keep me busy for months.

I dont think you're a cheap-ass. You are just trying to get the best deal possible. What game is it?

Definitely not. It's just called be a "smart" shopper. The fact that you have a backlog and have already beaten the game seems to not make it an urgent purchase.

But the price for that game will eventually drop below that. You and I are much in the same situation. I have a huge number of games on my shelf that I've never even taken out of their cases (just got cheap them from lowballs or ebay or something). You can wait for it to drop 'cause you know it will. So what's wrong with being a cheapass?

If you have a backlog of games, then better off waiting. Who knows, maybe they will release a Game of the Year edition or package it in a bundle. It will take a long time before it dips below $15.

Yeah just wait a little bit. When the next uncharted comes out this year I'm pretty sure Uncharted 2 will be around 10 - 15.

Dude I'm half drunk but if i read that right you tried to bargain with blockbuster on a used game lmao i never heard of that did you think it was CAG buy, sell, trade thread or did you think you were at a garage sale or something. I can't tell as I'm under the influence but i can't believe people side with you lol. Yeah i read that right my 82 year old grandma would try something like that and she is senile. I'm sorry but I'm going to have to call you an idiot i mean your account is from 2004 so i assume your in your twenties. Do you normally try to bargain with retail stores? I mean this is like a gamefaqs troll topic or something. Also is this a blockbuster in America? Sorry for my idiocracy but that's to funny.http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...sg=AFQjCNFaLWdIUZ3yDkX4mo68l8c6HYpCHw&cad=rja

The store had ten copies of the same game for sale. I walked to the front and asked:

"I know it's highly unlikely, but if you have a surplus of the same used game for sale, is there any possibility the price is negotiable?"

I was pretty sure they would say 'no', but I though maybe there was a slim chance they might discount one since they had ten copies that had not sold. They have had these ten copies for quite a while. Every store has a different inventory, and I thought maybe management could make an exception on the price to move inventory that was not moving. If these were new games, I would not ask, but these were used. It was a shot in the dark, and I had nothing to lose. It's not totally idiodic.

Yeah you didn't have anything to lose but i don't think even a store manager would have authority to do that. I mean that's literally no different then walking into a gamestop and asking for a discount on a used game its not going to happen plain and simple. Sorry if i also said anything offensive but to answer your question yes you are cheap and that's from a 21 year old drunk/stoner unemployed 2 years sorry lol.

I dont think it was dumb to ask. Some companies let the POS override markdowns (Not Blockbuster). Who knows, maybe managers may know upcoming markdowns or promotions. Bottom line, it doesnt hurt to ask. ;)

Your not 'cheap'.

If you have a backlog, there's always time to wait for a game to drop lower in price.

Don't you hate when you buy a game and never get to it, then see it at a cheaper price, with your more expensive copy still sitting unplayed at home? I try to avoid that at all costs as it drives me crazy.

I don't think your that cheap, but know how to handle finance better than most. I think a five finger discount would be the ultimate cheapness and illegal as well!!! Having one of your bros buy it for you would be another or borrowing a buddies and trying to keep it forever is another...

I think you made the right choice, OP. If you have a backlog and don't need to be playing that game right now, what's the point of having it sit on your shelf when you can buy it later for cheaper? There will always be another copy for sale so don't worry.
So do you have a bunch of money in the bank too, or do you walk around with all the money you have?
I think it would be pretty foolish to carry an entire savings in a wallet. I'm hesitant to answer your question because one person's definition of a large sum of money may differ from someone else's definition. If you're a typical high school or college student, then yes, I have lots of money in the bank. If you're a distinguished professional with 30 years experience and a luxeriuos life style, then no, I don't have a fortune sitting in the bank. Compared to the grande scheme of life, I have a long way to to. Considering the fact I am 30 years old, I'm doing fairly well. I'm a firm believer of living debt-free and saving money. I am by no means wealthy.

I carry $10,000+ in my wallet. It's called a credit card. Unless you were planning on being entertained by a lady of the evening, there's no reason to carry more than $20 in cash anymore. Last time I checked, EVERYWHERE takes credit cards, even Blockbuster.

When you walk into a non-franchised mom-and-pop establishment, a convention, or when you are dealing with an individual, you have a lot more room for negotiating when you carry cash. Most of those places don't even have the technology to swipe a credit card.

Ok, sounds like you know what your doing. Some young people might have like $500 and be like man I'm loaded, but in reality they have nothing in the bank.

I think that he mentioned the $500 to put the $5 that he wanted to save into perspective. Basically, he's walking around with $500 in spending money, and he passes on buying a game that he wants because he thinks the price will drop by $5 eventually.

I think he's cheap. He's smart to pass on it since he has a backlog, and the price will most likely drop. But he's still cheap.
That price seems good to me and they probably wont drop any further.
Price doesn't seem good to me considering he already beat it. Maybe if he hadn't played the game, then $20 would be great to play and own it. $20 just to own it again is dumb. Might as well keep waiting until it hits $10.
