Why would anyone with all their lights on upstairs hate STEAM? lol

Think I'll wait until the sale is over first before I think of buying...that's if it stays until then.

EDIT:
Haha and just like that, STEAM prevails again and has it for $10.20!

That's not Warband on Steam.

I wouldn't say that I "hate" steam, but I would never buy a 3rd party title from there. You're essentially just renting the game until the publisher decides that they don't want it on steam anymore. And valve doesn't have the power to "unlock" the game. That misnomer comes from the fact that valve said they'd unlock 1st party tiles if steam itself were to be discontinued.

Don't get me wrong, I think valve's a fine company and I don't judge anyone (like my friends) who buy from steam. It's a personal choice.

Has that ever happened even once? :/ I've certainly never "lost" a game.

Risen got removed from the store, but people who bought it on Steam still have it and can delete it and re-download it at will, normally.

But why would they want to pull it from Steam? It would still be one of their highest revenue streams since titles can't be resold.

I don't think they can just pull it and not allow you to play it. He is talking about if Steam (Valve) ever went under. It is a risk you take with using Steam but really it isn't that huge of one. Many years down the line you might lose them but considering most of my older games don't even work right on newer hardware/OSes it isn't a huge deal to me.

Also, you have to consider a lot of the DRM being used today that phone home. When those servers are gone you won't be able to play your game anyway. On top of that, say Sony or MS drops out of the console business. Once you can no longer buy a working console all those games are lost too and you would lose online capabilities (heck this happens when it does to the next console gen). So you are pretty limited in the gaming world if you try to avoid all these potential "renting" situations.

It really isn't worth worrying about it. Steam offers games for cheap and is very convenient that it is all worthwhile.

Sorry for the book but I just don't think the "renting" argument that comes up against Steam holds much water these days.
