I bought Battlefield Bad Company Gold Edition the other day. I had no idea about the free 5 mp3's thing. A few hours later I got an email from amazon telling me about it. You just choose buy mp3 for 5 mp3's. I think the credit is hidden in your account. Then a few hours after that they sent an email with a receipt of the mp3's and the balance was $0.00 I got to download songs that are hard to find. :O
Dammit CAG, you're failing me! I full well expected someone to find a three cent item that qualified by now!
I don't know about three cents, but there are items under $5 that qualify.

Red Bull BC One (DS)
DS Lite Case
Boogie (PS2)

Not worth it as a money-making scheme, IMO, but anyone with Prime and/or an interest in these items might want to take a look.

ETA: I feel extremely clever for finding this: qualifying Rock Band guitar skins for $2.00.

XBL games only work if you contact Amazon Customer Service. So sort of not worth the hassle. I've purchased several games so far and found this to be the case.

Bought a ps3 controller, 5$ mp3 comes with it. The purchase comes with a cheap guitar controller for free, which comes with 5$ mp3 credit as well. So for buying the one controller, I get 10$ in amazon mp3 credit and the guitar(and 1.70$ cheaper than without the guitar, because eca stacks with the guitar even though it already has the full price discounted).

So dualshock3, nyko guitar, 10$ mp3 credit for 36$.

Big Kahuna Reef [game download] is free and has the $5 MP3 special offer listed. I figured I would give it a try. I'm not holding my breath though.

This should work, just email CS and they will give you the credit if it does not.
I purchased assault heroes a few days ago and still no credit that I can find and no email.
You will have to call them and get them to manually give you the credit. For some reason they aren't automatically sending them out for Xbox Live Arcade digital download purchases.
do these apply to marketplace orders, (amazon merchants)
No, only buying directly from Amazon.

Llama, email them and tell me what they say

Sami- I didn't have a lot to do today so I just called CS. After about 10 minutes and 3 different people (probably as many continents as well) they credited my account $10 ($5 for Big Kahuna & $5 for the MvC2 that I purchased)

Does it take several days to receive the 5 dollar MP3 credit? I ordered Trials last night, but never received the MP3 credit. I called amazon and the chick told me it could take up to 5 days to get the credit.

I like that they are doing this a lot. Great job amazon.

Well Amazon is going to win e-tailer of the year for sure. But they are doing this, and more with games, to make up for the dismal economy. Clearly Amazon isn't afraid to get down and dirty to make that little extra dollar. I can see me making at least $20 MP3 money this month thanks to this. Not to mention making $20 with the gift cards from the two preorders. That's $40 bucks, although limited to Amazon, back in my pocket.

I think the ECA is going to win deal of the year though. It almost makes up for the loss of Speedy (the Sunday ads guy) and the ghostly disappearance of Amazon's XBLA deals.

More than likely you'll never get that credit for the XBLA unless you keep emailing customer service. What I would do is after 2 days (which is how long I was told it would take as well as several other members) email customer service and say that you ordered the game and waited two day like they said you should, but you never got your credit. This should most likely fix the problem and you'll either get your $5 MP3 credit or they'll just credit a $5 giftcard to your account.

I've bought several XBL games now and credit should apply but doesn't! So you have to contact customer service for XBL purchases. The two times I contacted customer service it was fairly hassle free, but ymmv.

Ok, it does work now. I purchased assault heroes online code for $5 and it took a few days for my $5 credit towards mp3's to show up but last night it did so I purchased a couple of tracks and need to find a couple more I want. Great deal.

If you buy multiple of the same item, but on different orders will you still get credit? I got the $5 credit on my first order with said eligible item, but 2 other orders I placed and added the same item have not given me the $5 mp3 credit. Not a digital download purchase.

I bought Sonic 2 (a $5 download), 1600 MSP ($20), and Big Kahuna Reef (free). I got $5 in my account so far, and I guess I'll wait until tomorrow to see if I get at least one more credit before emailing.

I have bought ten games since this started and I only automatically got credit for one of them. But I kept up with emailing customer service and in the end I ended up with $45 in Amazon credit, not MP3 credit, but credit that could be used on anything in the store. To me that's a heck of a lot better than MP3 credit. So in the end, if you keep up with customer service, you'll end up with your credit, or maybe even something a little better.
ha - wow - hope Big Kahuna Reef works... can't beat free
I just did it and instantly got a $5 credit. YAY!

Not bad, from Big Kahuna Reef:

Hello,

I am sorry about the difficulty you've had with the Amazon MP3 Music Downloads promotion and the time it took to resolve it. We have manually applied the $5.00 credit to your account and I've also applied an additional $1.99 for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Took me about 10 mins on the phone to get credited for the stuff I bought last week, but the item I bought today resulted in an immediate credit.

Under my gift card balance it shows my previous balance before the $5, but if I click on that view balance link on a mp3 page as mentioned in OP, it shows my gift card balance + $5 added to it. Is this right, does it add it to your regular gift card balance but only use it on music? If I buy an MP3 it won't use my earlier regular gift card balance before the new mp3 credit, will it?

I ordered 5 accessories and 1 game in one order. 5 items shipped and I only got $5 in credit. I just sent off an e-mail to CS, let's see what they do...

They keep telling me the credit I got for another purchase is the credit for orders I never got the credit on... I bought 4 qualifying items and got the $5 credit for 2. The 2 I know I didn't get it on because I never got the confirmation e-mails for them. I've e-mailed them again, hopefully I get this settled in the morning.

I shouldn't be this greedy about free MP3s, but damn free is free.

They did the same thing to me. I ended up sending one very long email in which I stated that I made ten separate orders for ten separate games and had only received credits for three orders. I then listed the order numbers for the orders that I had received credit for. Then I listed the order numbers for the orders that I did not receive credit for. That was the last email I sent and they gave me my credit after they read the email.

huh, I did it and selected download later and ended up with 10 dollars mp3 credit, very odd, I know I bought a few other things but pretty sure I had already gotten my credit for them, maybe I missed one.

Darn it, 3 e-mails and no luck. They are saying the promo codes are 1 per order. Guess I should have broken the order up into 2 or 3 orders (no Prime). Oh well, I needed everything except the PSP case ($5.25 before ECA), so I guess it came out even...

the fine print says one per purchase, I dont see anything about per order, might not be seeing it though.
"Promotional offer limited to one Amazon MP3 promotional credit or code perpurchase."

I've made quite a few purchases, including several xbox live games. I've never once gotten the 5 dollar credit for downloaded purchases automatically. I just keep on emailing them and ive gotten 5 dollar credits for everything Ive purchased that can be used on anything on Amazon(even though the email calls it mp3 credits)

I didn't bother listing my orders, they have that in front of them and they should be able to figure that out. I just basically asked them to review my orders that already shipped and pending orders for additional $5 credits. I will keep this thread updated.

I should have had $25 in MP3 credits... only got $5. So, I emailed customer service... they're trying to tell me it's one offer per person! They actually quoted the text that says one per purchase and then told me, "see it's one per person."

I just sent another message to them.

I've had the same problem...ordered Batman a little bit ago..didn't get a mp3 promo email. Boguth the Big Kahuna Reef game and got it instantly.

hmmm..

any more freebie games?!

ahhhh, cause i preordered. That makes sense. Since i coudl just opt out of buying Batman, i'd still have the $5 mp3 credit.

gotcha. no worries though :)
