F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

If a computer didn't have an HDMI out port but was discounted, people would point it out and some would say they were going to pass. It then became a joke complaint for all the deals.

Christ.

They do know there's such a thing as a DVI to HDMI adapter right? You can get them for like $5 online.

AHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Breath.

Tony is still working on backfilling all prior purchases.

Tony:

Looking at the dupes, it looks like it was limited to THQ and was based on items purchased because that's the only thing that's different.

Plus the link to the THQ site has the same docID number so it looks like you'll be ok with the one publisher's coupon per customer limit.

No codes here yet either, but I decided if I go to bed early, leave out some cyber cookies for Game Santa Tony and some celery for the hamsters. When I wake up the promo codes will be there.

Negative Ghost Rider. Some people received duplicate EA promos as well. We never found out the "actual" reason why this occurred. We just know it wasn't supposed to.

1) $5 is a big difference to some slickdealers. Although, in all honesty, we could probably figure out how to get those adapters for less.

2) Most of the time it was VGA vs HDMI rather than DVI vs HDMI. A big part of it was making sure you could assign the computer to media center duties after a future upgrade. VGA is never as good and sometimes looks horrible on HDTVs.

3) Part of the reason it became a meta-joke is because the HDMI complaint seemed petty in light of the excellent deal. It would annoy especially OPers because they might get less rep or not make front page since less people would be interested. We call it threadcapping or threadcrapping.

Just was curious about it, seems like im not the only one, I hope it's not Tony on his own sending hundreds of thousands of emails on christmas eve!!
Amazon has pretty much wiped the floor with Steam this sale. At the end I'll have probably only have bought two things from Steam and that's only because Amazon doesn't carry them.
Same here. I only bought the Ys series from them. I was about to buy 30 Minute Hero also, but I think it can reach 75% if I wait a bit.

I wonder if Tony could possibly reach out to Xseed and get those games on Amazon.

Well, at least that put a funny visual in my head... :bouncy:
I feel that Origin bashing is old and tired; it's like "No HDMI" on slickdeals. As a client it isn't bad and has one of the largest publishers behind it, unlink say GMG Crapsule.* Unlike steam they actually have customer service.
I don't think it's bashing to just outright not want to use the service. If EA didn't hold their own titles hostage, nobody would use Origin. It's unnecessary and proprietary. If EA really felt like they could provide a better service, they wouldn't be locking up every major release they have.

Edit: And that's all I'm going to say about it so as to not derail the thread.

It's an old and tired threadcrapping comment on SD, used on any thread (e.g. candycane blowout). "Sales Tax kills it!" is another, but at least sometimes it can be true.

That's really not the point. That adapter is cheaper on Monoprice noob! =p
I have several things that can put out HDMI but still nothing that can accept it.

customer service?
on origin?

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
:applause:

that was a good joke

What's the cheapest Ubisoft to buy? I want AC: Revelations but I don't know what to buy. $5 for AC1 or 2 really seems like too much, I swear they've been cheaper. There's an AC: Revelations DLC for $2.50, which I'm hoping gives me the Ubi credit, but then it's like I'm buying the game for $5 instead of 2, and still not getting two other DLC packs, which doesn't seem worth it when it would be $3 extra for all the DLC...

I'd ask if anyone else had Ubi credit they weren't using and if they could help me grab the game, but I don't even know if Ubi games offer codes that you can give to someone else to activate. >_< (Plus probably no one has Ubi credit.)

Also, are the other two Revelations DLC even available to buy on their own? I only see the character pack for sale and that's it...

I don't normally buy their stuff but I did get RUSE from Amazon a while back because it's Steamworks with no additional DRM and it was on a good deal at that time.

Anyway, I got the Ubi coupon and I don't plan to use it but like you said I don't know if you can transfer their stuff. I don't think you can activate games to UPlay like you can with Steam or Origin.

Complicated issue. They aren't good with complicated things.

That said, don't bother with the phone. Go into the client and go to live chat. They're always around, and they're pretty damn helpful.

Also, re the price not being the same:

I paid $30 for ME3 and a few months later it went for $10.

I also paid $10 for SRTT

Even though I try to have discipline and not buy until the game has hit rockbottom in a bundle/

I'm about to fall on the right side of the fence for Scribblenauts and Lego LOTR... I just have this nagging thought that they might end up on the Editor's Choice list and get another wacky 75% off sale again making them $2.50 each after codes... but...

... that won't happen. Right? Right?!?!?! 0_0

TONY!

Thanks you for the $5 Christmas Promo deals! [picking up 2K Strat Pack and AC: Revelations] Please continue these special promotions in the future; the people who want them out number the naysayers.

Thank you!

You know if you buy it, in January there will be a Scribblenauts/Lego bundle that will be on the Editor's Choice list for $7.49, $2.49 after coupon.
You might want to hold off on buying it from Amazon. Civilization series is probably gonna be a daily deal or flash sale during the Steam sale and you'd get it cheaper then.
I was going to say it will only be less than a $2 difference at most but then I remembered where I was... :p

Anyway, I'd still say if you simply must get something from 2K to get that discount than that's still a better item to get since all the other DLC is in the GOTY version of Civ V but that one is not.

One could make the same point about titles that flat out require steam, including but not limited to Valve titles. Steam unnecessary & proprietary too. There isn't any fundamental difference between the Steam and Origin.

There are chunk of steam haters out there (just read amazon reviews, or GOG forums). Leveraging their assets to increase their profits is the legally binding duty of any publicly traded company.

If you want to hate, hate. If you want to justify, please try to think through your points first.

For the record, I loathe EA. I have friends who were burned by EA's abuse of employees. However, I'll still buy some EA games at cheap prices.

Wait wait.
You mean this thread isn't for coupons, complaining, and wondering if we can get someone to do the impossible on Christmas Eve?

Are you suggesting that perhaps Tony *isn't* Santa Claus?

Not even STEAM has this damn DLC, so it's probably 2K Games being jerks, as usual.
Does your copy of Mirror's Edge on Steam even come w/ a game-key?
If yes - did you try to activate on Origin?

I bought on Burnout: Paradise & DAO: Ultimate on Steam and those game-keys from there both actually registered-up on Origin.
Mirror's Edge on Steam doesn't have a key, so you can't activate your Steam version on Origin (or buy the Time Trials DLC for it -on Steam-.)

I activated my Steam copies of Shank, Crysis 2 and Mass Effect 2 on Origin.

So with the Assassin's Creed games, do they all link to your uPlay account unless you buy them on Steam? I don't mind not having them on Steam (since Steam sales for the series kinda suck), but I DO want them all in one place...
Haven't gotten any 2K codes yet. It looks like I purchased at least 3 or 4 2K games this year.
As an Ultima fan, I do have to say that every time I hear the name Origin it's a bit of salt in an old wound.

And yes I have heard those stories too about them being horrific to work for.

I'm trying to keep open to Origin but at the same time I feel like they still need to get their shit together in some areas with better sales, more client features, better download speeds and what not and make it a place where people want to go, not because they don't have another choice.

I will concede they've gotten a lot better with their customer service. It still can be hit or miss but at least you can get to talk to a real person.

I suspect they will keep improving because the market demands it but we'll see.

As you said, there's always going to be people who hate this service or that. Haters gonna hate.
are they included in the Gods & Kings Expansion? I'm planning to buy the 2k strategy pack but... I want this dlc as well (and I've already bought Bioshock!)
They're not included in Gods and Kings either.

Yeah, but if you need a coupon and want the Civ bundle then it's not a bad choice. One could always wait and see if Civ goes 75% off on Steam sometime before 12/31, hope for an Amazon pricematch on this dlc and buy it then to get a coupon.
