Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Valiant effort, but you can't fool me
Im addicted to lean & that shit ain’t no joke. I can barely remember all the things I’ve done & said. However there’s no excuse 4 stealing drawings. When you've made a mistake you should apologise, but more importantly -- most important of all -- you've got to learn from your mistakes. I am sorry for all the plagiarized drawings, they all were unintelligent, ambiguous and needlessly hurtful.

Suggest this to your EA guy.  ME1-ME3, and all DLC.  $20 pre coupon.  Lots of sales.  Positive buzz.

Heck I'd pay $20 after coupon just to get it all in one shot like that.  Make it very easy to give you my very hard earned money.

On a scale of 1-10 that would happen nevar
If an actually good sale doesn't happen, the chances of me buying any of them on a scale of 1-10 would be nevar.

Lol, believe me EA, if I was spending $25 on anything in the video game industry, and wouldn't wait for it to be at it's cheapest, it would be on something actually worth it, like Skyrim Legendary Edition + another game. No way in hell would it be on mass effect DLC.

Newsflash, those DLC aren't worth that much.

Think of it in these terms : How many hours of entertainment would those ME2 DLC give you? A few.

Skyrim, and most other open world RPG give you 100+.

No worries, Tony. Dragonborn for $9.99 pre-coupon would be great! Thanks!
Oooh, and Dawnguard, too ;)

Not sure what Hearthfire should be, before coupon.

I want/need those two DLC's.

EDIT:

I can't decide who is worse about extra content--Bioware or Bethesda. :(
I'd say BioWare.

When the hell do BioWare Points ever go on sale?

(Right, they often don't - once in maybe a few few moons or few years!)

And if they do go on sale - is it cheap?

(Hell no!)

At least w/ Bethesda on Skyrim - if you want, you can kinda justify buying their DLC at say whatever price b/c Skyrim base game by itself can take up so much time (I got over 100 hours w/ Skyrim and ain't even touched ANY DLC) and b/c their DLC's often offer up a fair amount of content for a DLC/expansion (on Skyrim we probably can exclude Hearthfire; on Oblivion that excludes Horse Armor).

As good as the Dragon Age complete pack still sells every time it comes up, it just seems like EA is leaving money on the table by not making complete packs for Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2 and 3 (whether they were put on Steam or not). Not to mention the whole Bioware points thing just scares off potential customers. It seems like lots of the console users who were the primary purchasers originally could be tempted into double dipping at a decent price, not to mention the PC gamers who never bought them in the first place.

Also,

My EA guy reads CAG, he saw that some of you were sad about missing some of the EA deals so he just hit me up.

We'll be reruning these deals in January at one point, still figuring out timing:

CRYSIS 3

DEAD SPACE 3

NEED FOR SPEED RIVALS

SIMCITY (PC/MAC)

SIMCITY CITIES OF TOMORROW

DEAD SPACE 3 AWAKENED

CRYSIS 3 THE LOST ISLAND

Cheers,

Tony
That's good to know. I lost track of time and forgot to pick up Crysis 3. Thanks Tony & EA rep.

by that logic tho around 95% of video games aren't worth what you pay for them then.

Are we still scheduled to get the original estimated price drops on Sims stuff? I was hoping to grab a couple of expansions but hadn't seen them mentioned in any subsequent posts and most are still at retail price.

It's the same nonsense MS pulls with their points. They figure you won't notice how much something costs cause it's hard to associate some number with the dollar amount and since you buy bioware points in bulk and can't use them anywhere else, then you're more likely to spend it all vs. if you had to pay for each item in real money.
I think that's a poor comparison considering there are far more uses for MS points and one can buy MS points at a discount... And that MS also runs sales... Making MS points better than cash if you don't mind waiting to use them.

Bioware points, on the other hand, are just a scam that shows Bioware's hubris in all things...

Can someone explain why this deal is insulting? Bioware points are never on sale...and these are what like 20% off?
It might not be for you, or me, but 20% off something that is never on sale is a good deal... If you want it.

There is no substitute for meeting a reaper that first time.
Very much so... but, sadly, the series likely plays better if you never meet him. Everything he says/implies is contradicted in ME3.... and not in a good way.

Also,

My EA guy reads CAG, he saw that some of you were sad about missing some of the EA deals so he just hit me up.
EA guy, why are so few of EA titles on the PC anymore? Coming from consoles its shocking to see its bee been going on "forever" it seems... With the coding for consoles being so close to PC now can you let the power that be know that there's clamoring for more EA titles? (Looking and seeing that none of the Army of Two series has been on PC is... Well, disappointing for someone who really enjoyed the series and who has likely bought his last console.)

Tony, any chance you can work your repeat magic on The Secret World? (Its my fault for not trying to do the demo before the sale... but you know. Procrastination is one of the things that makes my off time enjoyable.)

At least 95% of games I know will go on very deep sales eventually, and the publishers are interested in that.

When you have over 1000 games on Steam, you have the luxury to wait a long time before you buy any game.

I probably bought less than 10 games at near full price in the past 5 years, and only then because the game was really interesting.

If EA wants my money, they will either have to make the content so good I can't resist it at near full price, discount it a lot so I will look into it since it and is somewhat cheap around $5-10 (15?), or simply put it in a bundle like the Origin Humble, then you can put anything decent and I will probably buy it.

But asking for that much for the mass effect DLC falls in none of those categories, so I am pretty sure they will never get my money for it.

In other words, even if I was thinking about buying something when it isn't on a good sale, I have much better options than ME2 DLC.

For $25, those DLC don't interest me in the slightest. Give a much better discount and then we can talk.

I don't think I am the only one around here with those views, a lot of people here probably have similar views.

I thought Metal Gear was released on the 9th, not the 6th. Is that true?
I got an email about this too. Checked my order page and the Steam key was already there. It appears that Amazon is releasing the keys now (and charging for them) since Steam is allowing pre-loads (~24 GB).

Ah, weird. Kinda sucks! I wanted to switch my payment from my card to some credit since it had said it was to be released the 9th. Didn't think they would charge it already. :(

Already own Mirror's Edge.

Underrated awesome game.

Man, if only that was a pre-order for the next upcoming Mirror's Edge reboot/remake/open-world game. ;)

hehe.
There's a section on one of the levels where you're running up a fire escape and a Shotgun SWAT pops out at the end of the walkway. If you time it right you can jumpkick him over the railing and watch him fall 40+ stories. Gives me goosebumps every time.

Mirror's Edge is the best.

I could go for some NEW Maddens on the PC.

EDIT:

NHL games, as well.

Agreed! I think that, in the case of a game that can activate early for pre-loading, Amazon should notify the customer of the option. If the customer clicks the button to show the key, then the charge should happen at that point. Otherwise, Amazon should charge on the release date, as originally stated on the product page.

I'd have no problem if exclusivity bullcrap went away and 2K did some NFL and NHL games.

All of the points systems were/are a scam. You cannot/couldn't purchase games/dlc directly, since the only way to apply funds was to buy the preset denominations of $5/10/$20/$50 etc. This meant that you would almost always be left with an odd point balance afterwards that wasn't enough to buy anything worthwhile. Unless of course you bought more points, then the cycle just continued. Just wasted "money".

Thankfully I was able to clean out my remaining MS points balance a while back, and I haven't bought DLC on the 360 since.

Your syntax is terrible, but your point is absolutely true.

@ EA Guy and Tony: Any update on FIFA 14 deals? Something lower than 25 before coupon preferably.

Just beat Bioshock Infinite that I picked up a while back in the fantastically named bundle Amazon ran with Hitman and Tomb Raider. Game was interesting and, as a terrible FPS player, never noticed what I had read to be terrible gun play. The story itself was interesting and left a strong impression similar to Telltale's Walking Dead S1. Similarities between the song bird/Big daddy and the clothing of Elizabeth/Little sisters was well played as well.
