Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

Not a lie at all, since Amazon is currently providing keys or refunds upon request for Vanguard Princess, and the dev clearly stated Greenlight keys were provided to Amazon.

In the past we HAVE requested Steam keys for games that were sold previously non-Steam, and both Tony and CS have provided Steam keys on multiple occasions. I thought this had happened for Greenlight keys as well, though I could been mistaken. Either way, I was aware of the Vanguard Princess situation and was NOT lying.

I don't appreciate you calling me deceitful, or a liar. So kindly, shove off mate.

Requesting something doesn't mean it was given.

In the past, Amazon gave steam keys for if someone bought a DRM-free copy, when they meant to buy a Steam version. I don't think it happened with games that didn't have steam versions at the time of purchase.

Vanguard Princess is a special case, because as you said, they had already previously promised the keys. Such promise hasn't existed for Doctor Who.

I'm sorry for making this into such a big deal. Was just trying to clear up what I saw as mis-information, as well as a touch of personal bias against entitlement. (Which is why I've stopped reading the "Greenlit games that gave steam keys" thread on Steam.)

Might not have been an 'intentional' lie, but it was fudging the facts for a desired outcome. :p

False. There have been multiple occasions where a Steam version HASN'T been for sale on Amazon. When a Steam version later became available, Tony and CS have provided Steam keys upon request.

Either way, do and say what you like, but there's no "misinformation" here. I've only stated what has already happened. Not to mention Amazon just plain needs to start offering Greenlit keys if they're serious about growing their indie store.

I'm aware of what you've said and you're aware of what I said. I haven't lied about anything, nor did I "fudge the facts". If for some reason you see requesting Steam keys like this is people being too "entitled", that's your prerogative. There's nothing more to argue about here.

Just dropping a note here to say that I've started my PC thread (digital only for now, hoping to combine physical + digital PC deals next week in addition to the separate console thread) over here: Amazon PC Deals - Thief $37.49, $7.00 Tomb Raider, indie deals, and more

I'll still check this thread for a bit (And I'll post the update on this Steam key business in both places), but expect the majority of my time here to be spent in the other thread.

And there's the possibility that the FF games will end up in the next Squenix bundle as well. Both games have been on Steam less than a year, so I'm thinking the next time there's a round of Tomb Raider/Hitman/Deus Ex/Thief/Just Cause/etc. stuff going on sale, whether in a bundle or not, so will the FF games.

I don't know if I was supposed to like that or not, but I really did. Also, why is it the max quality with that video is 360p, but on youtube (by clicking the link in the video at the right bottom so that it's the very same video) you can go to 480p?? Also, isn't the guy singing the media guy (Caesar Flickerman) from the Hunger Game movies?

Yeah youtube was being funny. That's Alexander Veljanov (Macedonian) of Deine Lakaien (they've been around for almost 30 years... surprisingly never gained traction in the states). I have no clue about the hunger games. Sure looks like the same guy.

^^^ Awesome.  I thought I was missing something when I didnt see anyone compare it to Running Man.  I've been watching a lot of Running Man and Total Recall lately :)

Also, Amazon PM'ed Prince of Persias (didn't see it mentioned) for some DRM free goodness I think except Forgotten.  Sands of Time rules!!!
