Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

It was $8 from GMG and Gamefly ($10+20% off codes). Amazon had a first EC day glitch where you could get it for $5 for a short time and there's been some bundles where it was under $8 assuming you divided the cost evenly. Not that I think Bioshock 1, Bioshock 2 & Infinite should be divided evenly these days.
Are you sure about the glitch? I saw it listed on the first day at $10 and kept checking until about 3 am Pacific and it never let me redeem the coupons. Were people really able to get it at $5? Still... just the thought of being able to get it for $5 made that the buy pricepoint for me... though I'm sure it's worth a lot more.

Wow, I never knew that

Seems disgusting that they would want a Nazi term to represent them, unless you know, they're Nazi gamers which sounds like a cheap B movie.....
We get it, you're ignorant and clueless about the term. You talking about it more only serves to further solidify the point. You make it sound like 'master race' as a term didn't exist before the Nazis. The more you know . . .

Yeah, it's an ignorant term but some gamers will defend it to death. I guess because of free speech and the fact it's said in jest, but it's really not all that clever. It really only feeds into stereotypes of PC gamers, but I'm not really surprised. Gamers also make verbs out Jew and Jap so this isn't really above them.

And yes, Hitler didn't invent the term, but let's not sit here and act dumb and pretend the term is being used in a completely different context or not associated with the way the Nazis used it.

Same. Sepioth made a sortable spreadsheet you can find here.
Thanks.

Wow that kinda sucks. I mean, I appreciate what Tony has done for us here and all, but surely it should have been noted on the actual Amazon offers page itself that each game isn't exactly on sale for the entire month? Anyone else who doesn't visit CAG wouldn't know any better.

Oh well, unless more titles are added, I won't be spending anything during this EC sale, since the two games I actually wanted barely lasted a couple of days.

1. I didn't know when the term came about, you're obviously upset about something in your daily life and feel the need to vent. I appreciate you as a person, feel better?

2. Don't give me this crap "well it was a thing before it's Nazi use so that makes it ok" argument because you're going to fail.

Just like the Swastika it's best known for it's Nazi ties.

It's digusting

How is it an ignorant term? I think most people know it was used by Nazis. I don't see gamers using jap and jew, don't paint that onto gamers. That's not a gamer thing, that's a person thing.

The OP should be edited say that the following is not the complete list of titles.

I like this site and yah guys, but I can't live here or remember everything. If the OP was updated to say that, myself (and others) wouldn't continue to ask. I can't skim pages to catch every detail.

That said, hoping for a sub $10 metro. And Sim City is one of the games of the year... Just opposite of best.
Thanks.

I completely agree with both of you.

You don't see how a term that was a rallying cry to exterminate over a million people could be seen as an ignorant term?

If people know it was a Nazi term, I don't see how using it is ignorant. Whether they are aware it was a nazi term or not is another question, I assumed it was common knowledge but maybe I'm wrong.

Sooooo.... anyway.

I'm looking forward to that Marlow Briggs deal in a few days. I can't wait to see more deals added to the OP.

I haven't really followed the discussion but… is using the term 'glorious PC master race' now verboten?!?
Nah, people are still going to use it.

That was me "casually" asking why some PC gamers jumped on the Oxford Nazi Dictionary when choosing a term to describe themselves.

It's not like anyone was "hey don't do that". I don't like it but I'm me, I wont use it.

The new Sim City is fun.

There, I said it.
The first week was bad, very bad.

After that I loved it, I gave it a 9.1.

I think the whole problem with games that require always on is that things that are broken will be fixed. It used to be the whole argument "well don't release a game that's broken because not everyone can go online for patches" and that's true today EXCEPT games that require always on. If you're always on you're getting patches and your game will always be up to date. If you're not able to get updates you're not able to play because you're not online.

Now of course you still have the "things need to be fixed quickly" and I feel they did that.

The whole "well games shouldn't ask you to always be online" argument is still going on.

Also I really like quotes today

On the fence about Bioshock, what's the lowest been so far? It seems like a good deal for 8.20 but I'm not sure if I should wait since I have plenty of games to play for a long time.
This is going to be the lowest it's been on it's own I believe, it has been cheaper but only in bundles.

The $5 glitch never happened, some people and credit from other promotions that applied when they tried to test their EC credits.

$1 or bust on Ken Levine's morality play.

/makes protagonist with huge cartoonishly large bewbs.

/wonders why gamers stare at her bewbs.

You haven't had the pleasure to online game in shooters too often then.

If people use it without knowing what it means, it's one thing. Using it while knowing what it means is sort of tasteless, but like he said, I'm not here to tell anyone what to type. I just chimed in because it's a bit ridiculous to sit here and try to vilify the guy for taking offense to something that is in fact very offensive.

Yo guys,

Sitting at work and super slammed, been cranking through stuff all weekend but wanted to apologize for the lack of posts again. Good news. We did get a bundle with Mass Effect 2 and bioware points equivalent to all ME2 content or 2,480 Bioware Points for $29.99 pre-coupon.

Regular price for 2,480 BW Points would be $30.96 so you're saving $5ish, or effectively 20% off plus you'll get ME2 for free.

I'll be trying to get through responses today but if anything is urgent you should PM me. NOTE: Urgent does not include "will X game/dlc/etc. be on sale sometime in the near future" I'll get to those comments/questions but likely not for a couple of days.

Cheers,
Tony

Hey there,

Couple of notes here:

1. Happy to update the OP, just added a note.

2. I hope people start reading the OP now

3. The end dates for both of those deals was located in two places on www.amazon.com/gamedownloads once in the deal "slider" just below the giant banner image at the top of the page, and again below the deal slider under a tabbed widget. I've noted this before but can again, it isn't feasible for us to have a countdown timer on the page due to price matching. Can explain more if you need further detail for this to be clear.

Cheers,

Tony

No worries, Tony. Dragonborn for $9.99 pre-coupon would be great! Thanks!

PS... I already own ME2... Can anyone who plays ToR chime in on the value of BW points?

Wait… am I missing something $25 for a Mass Effect 2 GOTY type bundle?  That doesn't seem all that great.  But, then again, I'm not really a huge ME fan and never cared for the 'Shepard shags another alien' DLC.

You are missing something :).

It is $25 for ME2 + 2,480 Bioware Points.

We just label our Bioware Points by title, you can use them on anything though...

Tony

Fair enough. I can't really gauge it since I've never used bioware points and have no idea how much that actually nets someone in terms of games/content.

Thanks for the deal Tony!

I am sure some people somewhere would enjoy that deal maybe, can't see too many people here using it.

From the way this forum discussion goes, people are reluctant to get newish games for 10 or 15, I highly doubt many here would pay 25 for a game which was in an indie gala bundle, and a bunch of points that can only be spent on DLC from some relatively old games.

I don't blame you, It is EA/Bioware's fault, with their money leeching DLC policy.

Now crysis 3 was a good deal, so I jumped on that, as well as the ace bundle.
