Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

 • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
 • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
 • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

I'm wondering if we already managed to scare off Josh?

Hey Josh, just letting you know that it was Tony's policy to always pricematch any requests, including Impulse, Gamefly, GamersGate, GreenManGaming, and Nuuvem! We'll expect you to pricematch the same sites, don't let us down!
Don't lie, Spoder. Tony didn't always pricematch, he always beat the price by at least 10% more. So if Steam was selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for 50% off, he'd deliver 60-75% off. And give us $5 credits.

And kittens.

And bacon.

Looks like Amazon is having a sale on a few Focus Home Interactive games/bundles.

Focus RPG Bundle - $12.49 (75% off)
Includes:

 • Divinity II: Directors Cut (Not steam)
 • Game of Thrones (Steam)
 • Mars: War Logs (Steam)
Okay, Josh, here's the type of constructive criticism that Tony asked for.

I already have Divinity II DC on Steam, so the only value in this pack is in the other two titles. Together, they retail for $22.48; so the asking price of $12.49 is really only a 44% discount. If the pack just consisted of GoT and M:WL, and was then 75% off, I'd strongly consider a purchase.

Also... I think that in general, you'll sell more bundles overall if the DRM is consistent. Selling a non-Steam version alongside two Steam keys has to be putting some people off, especially when Amazon sells the Steam version of Divinity II DC. If you ran two flavors of this bundle (all-Steam and no-Steam), I think you'd see more sales of the former.

Josh either:

a) Forgot his CAG password

b) Injured his hands in a freakish lunch accident where he forgot to stop eating when he ran out of sandwich

c) Takes off work on Fridays

d) Spent all day asking Tony if all the ridiculous things we said Tony always did were true

e) Spent all day on the phone chasing up AMAZING SALE DEALS (heh I wish)

f) Started another Amazon thread, without telling anyone, and is wondering why we're all so quiet there

I'm on the fence. I never got through my season on 2K13 and i don't usually buy the latest sports games just because. So I'll probably pass a year or two on the NBA 2K series, though it is a very good price.
Yeah, I should spend more time w/ 2K13, as well.

I think the questions for NBA2K14 PC are:

1) Are the new official game-modes worthwhile?

And what are they?

I know of Lebron mode - so what else is in PC version?

2) Are there any awesome mods for it?

We know of the Space Jam mod - so what else is out there?

EDIT:

Well, there's also THIS Mod....

And it looks like The UBR Mod was brought over to NBA2K14 - nice.

Josh is amassing his wellspring of generosity. He must see how much we need him, how much we desperately require him to soothe us, rock us to sleep, sing us gentle songs. All while whispering in our ears sweet nothings: "Rest well, my lovely dearest. I'll put South Park on sale for $5 just for you."

Lol. Man, I am a-okay with backlogging games I think I'll actually play (sometimes I don't care for them), but have no interest in games I know I will never even start. Hell Yeah! is one of those...
I own Hell Yeah! and played it until 100% achievements. IMO it's funny. Not a top game, but enjoyable.

Actually you're right about this.

Except we're already on page 5.

Hell Yeah! is intrinsically broken for multiple reasons, such as inconsistent checkpoints that force you to redo large chunks of the levels and wade through scenes and dialogue you've already watched, but the main issue is that it's a fast paced platformer shooter that doesn't allow you to rebind the jump key to another button to allow simultaneous jumping and shooting.

You're just fine passing it up. It's cute and it's not the worst game, but it's broken and the developer ignored all complaints about it. It's the only game I ever asked for my money back for, EVER, and I haven't touched it since even though it's still attached to my Steam account.

HOW IS IT YOU KNOW ME SO WELL?

I started playing Valdis Story. Not sure I like it. So much backtracking and the maps just aren't that easy to remember. It's been a while since I played one of these--I'm hoping I like Guacamelee better. :(

Give it more of a chance; it's fantastic, butI agree on the map. The hell couldn't they just include one super map, instead of piecing it out based on your area? There are even places that don't show up on the map at all, since they're in the transition areas, which aren't mapped.

again, I ask in all seriousness since i just start to frequent this thread recently.. who the heck is Tebow and why was he banned (at least it was hinted at several posts)?
Trying to explain Tebow wouldn't do him justice, he's just an experience. Are all his posts deleted?

Don't know why he was banned but It sucks. Since the start of the internet I have not found a single person on the internet interesting or amusing, except him.

i) He was promoted already and is training his replacement, AmazonBob, who's CAG account hasn't been cleared to post yet
j) He didn't know what Steam was until being promoted to Amazon Digital and being introduced to CAG. Now he hasn't slept for days buying every bundle and incessantly checking the thread for more deals to feed his ever growing backlog, constantly telling himself that he'll play some of these games "one day".

k) He think he needs to post in a specific color to make his posts look fancier, and hasn't been able to decide since lavender and green were his first two options.

If someone wants to send me a $5 Amazon GC + a bundle key that you have rotting away in a Word file somewhere I can get you the 2K14 steam code.
Anyone able to do this for $5 paypal please? I have funds already there. :)

Don't think I've played a basketball game since NBA Jam on the SNES!

He was banned for liking WWE waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much and hating everything else an equal amount except diapers. He held a special aversion to diapers, especially of the gorilla variety. I know you're reading this ice. AJ and I say 'hey'.

WHY ARE THERE NO DEALS?
Because Josh is just carrying on the unfortunate recent trend of lacking Amazon sales. In all seriousness though, this time of year is pretty sale-barren for CAGs at Amazon. There's typically a relative lull between the end of the EC event and the next big deal which is MAY-hem.
He was banned for bad grammar.
I could handle the bad grammar. And I like juvenile humor...a lot. If tebow could have expanded is repertoire beyond "spaksny spankys *insert porn actress name*" and something about "likciing mns nuts" (or whatever), I could have appreciated his humor a bit more.

There are running gags, and then there's tebow.

In full disclosure, I'm very early in the game (presumably), but Guacamelee is awesome. Keep in mind that I'm a bit of a Mexiphile, too, though. So Dia de los Muertos and luchador stuff tickles my fancy culturally already. The game is also a nice kind of low-key funny. Now if the gangs would stop fuck stuff up down there, I'd be happy to put down my controller and actually go to Oaxaca (next on my Mexican places list).

Every. Single. Time.

If Tebow were here, he'd totally spankys you again, have a wrestless throw a chair, and get re-banned.

I can accept this. I would say, "Oh, my wallet enjoys the break," but with an indie bundle coming every 5 minutes, they get me again and again.

y) He has yet to realize that CAG is a 24/7 job so...

z) He's playing Skyrim with Tony.

Skyrim hasn't multiplayer.

Anyways, if anyone wantsneed to playbacklog NBA 2K14, I have a lot of coupons to use. Just pm me about it.
You assume he's talking about the video game. Those hardcore Elder Scrolls fans take it to another level and start LARPing. With "playing Skyrim with Tony", he meant that Josh is currently running around the forests of Washington state dressed up like a Khajiit.

Do the gamemasters get upset when they find a Khajiit muching on gourmet waffles outside the walls of Whitehaven?

Tsk, tsk. Non-pervasive, people. Immersion break means the gallows (or I guess the Imperials preferred chopping blocks)!

It was a nice surprise to see NBA 2k14 come back at an even better price. Insta-buy.

I've been playing 2k13 quite a bit lately, I guess I'll switch over to 2k14 and see if it's any different. At least the rosters will be updated.

I think UBR Mod being ported to NBA2K14 is what might cause me to bite on 2K14...if I actually do go ahead and buy it.

EDIT:

Okay, UBR looks too cool - in for 2K14.

It's all fun and games until one of them takes an arrow to the knee.
