AMC's The Walking Dead - S3 2nd half starts 02/10/13 9PM ET

Yeah, I never read the comics (and probably never will as I'm not into comics) and I'm liking the show a lot.

It's not a masterpiece or anything, but it's better than I expected given how terrible I find most Zombie movies etc.

I'm also with Javery in liking that it's not just pure action. I'm not much on shows or movies that are good only for the action. I prefer more character/plot driven stuff and the show is holding my interest on that front so far.
If you like watching good TV shows with interesting characters, tense situations and ZOMBIES then you will like this show. I never read the comics so I have no expectations and I am really really liking it. I don't mind that there isn't a ton of action (there is enough, IMO) because the story is compelling. It is also really interesting to me to see how these people are forced to work together to survive when they would otherwise have nothing in common.

If you are expecting a live action FPS then you should skip it but I think everyone here is complaining because it isn't living up to their expectations based on the comic book (which may be true - I don't know).
Again, I think people are completely misguided in terms of the word "action." No one...I repeat NO ONE has asked for action in terms of explosions, gunfights and zombie face stabs. Its laughable that people keep trying to bring that point up.

I think the biggest complaint is that the show is borderline line boring at times with very little of anything going on from a week to week basis from even a show standpoint. The pace is so slow that it feels as though they are stalling.By the way the comic was actually slow paced in terms of "action" but the drama of thing survival was actually interesting without feeling forced unlike the show. The comic kept me on edge the entire time...the show seems like its just faffing about.

But as a person who read the comic and knows the plot I can only relate what I think most peoples feelings are like this. The show The Walking Dead is like watching Lord of the Rings if it took them 2 movies to leave the shire. There are so many good plot devices already built into the source material that they are ignoring for faffing about. Every scene that you watch you wonder why they choose that over the dozens of other things. If Frodo was shown taken a 2 hour long bath you would start to wonder why they are not showing him get the ring and start his quest. Hell we are half way through the season...does anyone know what they are building up to? Finding the girl? Neither her or her mother are a main character. Leaving the farm? Even if you didnt read the comic you knew they were not going to stay. The Barn? Its cool but didnt need a entire season to build up to.

They just seem to have no direction and they are not showing there day to day life in a interesting way.

To be honest I think that most people who really love the show only do because its at least very different than what is on now a days. Which is a good thing, I would watch the show anyway just because its not another shitty reality show or sing off. The idea is interesting enough to grant watching it but the show itself is written poorly, acted poorly and has horrid pacing.

on top of that with so few zombies being shown youd think more people would wonder how the hell did humanity lose to them. it doesnt have to be every episode but they need to drive the point home that the numbers are truly against any human left alive.

as it is each episode lacks that aside from the very first season when rick went into altanta and got trapped.

and yeah im sick of andrea i hope she wont be like that forever but i think her real turn comes later assuming the
prison
is still in the future. after that she becomes very cool. that is if they allow for that storyline i can see alot of the
prison
stuff not being used.

I too agree this season has been a little slow, aside from the massive Zombies shown earlier
with Shane and Otis going after the supplies
.

It's been slow, my wife and I both agreed there needs to be a Zombie invasion soon lol. I do need to pick up the books, would be a lot better.
Unfortunately, its the reverse of what you are thinking. Now, I am saying this as a guy who works in and on tons of tv shows, movies, etc etc. The reason why they did that was as follows.

As you can clearly see the budget for the show is drastically lower than last season, which is why you see so many self contained plot devices. They wrote that to fill time for the show. The only reason they have 2 pumps is so a zombie can be in one of them and they can spend half an episode A)showing a zombie B) not spending to much money showing many zombies C) to create some fake drama via a problem that can be solved within the same episode (think any classic tv show, Full Hose, Wonder Years) Oh and what was this episode? Big D gets lost by himself and then finds his way back within the same time frame. All of this is just filler. This is "How to extend a sesason 101"

One pump to explain how they have been drinking this entire time and the 2nd so they can waste half an episode showing a zombie in one. Hell they didnt even tell Herchell they found a fucking zombie in the 2nd one...you would think he would want to know that.

We all can stand a little bit of filler...its very hard to write compelling episodes weekly, even the great shows of the past had it. I just think the ratio here of filler vs actual plot is way off. Probably due to budget reason but god damn..if the budget got cut so bad that you cant even progress the story you might as well cancel it. We are 6 episodes in this season and we havent learned or seen anything, as a viewer nothing is happening.

(Just a note, I read all the comics years ago so I know all of the plot points)
I pretty sure they said they had 5 Well/pumps why they were telling them to drink out of a week that had a zombie in it is another story... He told them they have 5 wells... the water running to the house is coming from well 1.. but i want you to drink out of well 2 out in the field ... so he even told them what well out of the 5 to drink from im pretty sure hercell knew there was a zombie in pump 2

also you think a BIG BRIGHT HOUSE in the middle of a pitch black field would bring all of the zombies to the house but nah there is none around LOL

Thanks for the additional posts. It seems like it would be a show I'd be interested in if it weren't for the filler. I haven't read the comics but I really don't like filler in any form.

Isn't the farm house land surrounded by a big fence or something- I remember one character saying that a few weeks ago.

its a crap fence i could see one easily falling over it or crawling under it. but if they patrol the fences daily it shouldnt be too much of an issue.
wait, did they actually show the fence?
no but everytime they enter/leave they're told to lock the gate

the fence im talking about is the small wooden they were standing near at one point so is there a bigger fence theyve never shown? if theres a bigger fence how could daryl have climbed it?

wow was thinking about picking up the books... your telling me it will cost almost 120 bucks to get all of the books... way too much at least for me

just download the comics.. soo worth the read if you are a walking dead fan

for anyone whose into this show youd be doing yourself a huge favor to read the source material. the comics are awesome easily one of my top 5 comic series ever but on the flip side once you read then you may end up hating the show for everything its not.

so if ignorance is bliss for you ignore the comics.

What a fucking waste of time....it didnt even have enough to provide cliff notes.

Hey guys, there are walkers in the barn...oh wait we knew that from last week. Hey guys they looked for the girl...oh wait they did that last week. Hey guys she is preggier...oh wait we knew that from last week...rick knows now.

Is this season going anywhere at all?

Hey, the two most annoying people on the show fucked, that's gotta count for something!

Watched the first season last night thanks to Redbox. It showed promise, but goddamn it got ridiculous as it went on. Almost every woman on the show is a fucking idiot or bitch too, except for the one who decides to suicide, but she got almost zero screentime as it is. It's almost like a reality show, where the most annoying assholes get the most screen time. Andrea needs to DIAF and after reading spoilers for the second season it appears that she gets even worse. I don't need a badass female role model, I just want a female on the show who isn't a worthless bitch. And the CDC setpiece was just absurd. It was like something out of a bad 70s sci-fi movie. Come on network TV.

My husband has no interest in watching the second season even if we Redboxed it, and I'm inclined to agree. All my other complaints were already posted a million times by scholars such as Soodmeg and Jodou.

My thoughts exactly. I'll continue to watch no matter what (because I have a high tolerance for this sort of thing), but I really need something to happen right about now to keep me interested.

fucking christ, also where are they getting so much ammo?
also if he wa against guns now why is he allowing his people to shoot>?

something major has to give in the 2nd part of the season or i can see people saying to hell with this and forgetting all about this show before season 3 hits

its like blair witch all over again

There were two big plot holes that really started to bug me the last ep , the ammo thing was one and the other is why do they keep running to the same pharmacy for supplies when it would be easier to just fill a duffel bag and take everything left in a few trips ????

I thought the same why not empty the pharmacy? Maybe they're delusional into believing other town folks will use it the old guy doesn't believe their zombies as the chick said but that they're sick.

This is getting too soap operey for me. But I still watch it. I wanna see what happens. I didn't watch the last 10 minutes of it because I was tired.
He's flat out amazing in this series because he just looks the part of a slimeball, moneygrubber. Thing is, you love him for what he is and end up rooting for his character. Seriously, it is such a well written series I'm shocked nobody really talks about it. The characters are interesting and the actors REALLY give outstanding performances. What really stands out for me is the natural cliffhangers that aren't forced and sometimes come as total shocks. Between it and Game of Thrones, HBO has me hooked.
Completely agree plus I love the real life characters in the show they really add to the feel. I'm guessing the reason no one talks about it is because it's on HBO. We're cheap asses remember ;)

As far as TWD, i'll keep watching but I just hope the kid thing gets resolved soon. I was about to stop watching if Andrea was a better shot.

the ammo fairy?

btw if this was real life everyone knows maggie the farmgirl hasn't had a black guy ever in her life and would want that black buck straddled on top of her giving the deep dicking she deserves

I have a question for anyone familiar with the comics... What is the best way to buy them? They had "Volumes" at a local record store here, but i have also seen the books of them on amazon. Just wondering if one way is cheaper or better ect. Thansk!

I'd recomend the Compendium, Amazon's got it pretty cheap. The first 48 issues all here. And then just wait for the next Compendium which isn't too far off. Just keep in mind the series is still ongoing getting close to issue #100 with no end in sight.

So the trade paper backs are a better way to go than the hardback ones?

as far as paperback versus hardcover thats more of a personal preference thing. i go paperback for price alone.

I have all the trade paperbacks and I say if you plan on buying them you should take a break after the Governor arc. The story goes nowhere after that.

I'd get the hardcover collections if you can. Otherwise there's the TPBs, which are probably more available. I spent a little more than I wanted to for the first HC book when it was out of print. Not sure, but the series might have given it another publishing run, so you might be in luck.

I think there is a Resident Evil item box in the RV.

I know there were like 700 rounds in Rick's Weapon Bag (TM) in season 1, then they gave "less than half" of it to those nursing home guys, which probably left around 400 rounds.
lol finally
found her
best episode so far
you might want to spoiler that in case people who havent seen it yet come in. that way at least they get one surprise lol.

there I edited it but if you haven't seen it it probably isn't a good idea to enter a thread discussion about a show

With Beware Spoilers in the title at that.
The slow pacing and prolonged storyline(s) were well worth that payoff.
Agreed I'm glad I never read the comics because the ending of this episode made me say dammmmmmmn and
I felt bad for the old man as he saw the people he was saving get killed
