Nintendo is not that smart. They don't like money. And being a business, that makes them dumb.

Preorder now for the next wave for a set number of time to know a minimum number to make. Once that preorder time frame is done, make a certain set amount more (for in store) and then stop production for the time being. Fans are happy because they are able to get as many as they want without having to worry about being online during the 3 minute preorder window. Nintendo is happy because they just brought in a bunch of revenue. Who is not happy in this scenario?
Sounds like you don't understand how business works. The whole reason these things have been selling at the rates they have is because of implied rarity. Your average person thinks these things are rare and if they don't get it now they'll never be able to so that is the reason for the high sale numbers. When you overflood the market with something you don't get a massive sale increase instead people stop buying them because they have no value.

I love the irony of amiibos. The only reason these are in such high demand is cause they were not selling to being with!!! Village and WFT did not sell (I remember every store had tons of em unsold). Nintendo sees this and says, oh well, these aren't selling we should discontinue them. That makes the collectors and resellers go berserker barrage on them, and now rare amiibos are sold out (& they only are cause they did not sell in the first place!)

No everyone sees there is a profit to be made/they might be rare if they don't sell well, so they are sold out instantly. My god, the logic here would destroy all AI machines on the universe.
The irony!

The scenario I described is preselling for a set period of time to get an idea of demand for the product then cutting it off and stopping production (kind of like the Ni No Kuni Wizard's Edition). Not sure how that could be considered flooding the market. In fact, once they announce preorders will stop (after a month or whatever time they decide) then the demand will still be there for the product as the procrastinators decide they need to have it. A preorder window of one month is a lot better then a preorder window of 5 minutes, as most fans will agree.

I was first in line, finally got Ness locked in. Now working on a second order for Robin and Lucina.

Agreed. Nintendo should just make all amiibos available for preorder, with the intent of taking orders first, then produce the item. Right now they are guessing how much each amiibo will sell based on how much the related games have sold. That is the only reason these are selling out, because of the fear of them possibly being rare.

Wait so I'm fourth in line and that PoS is telling me it is sold out? Get the *** outta here, I'm done with Ness and amiibos. Will only do Lucina now.

What's funny is that Ness is the only Amiibo I want. And he just had to be a GameStop exclusive.
Eh. I only want Jigglypuff, Robin, Lucina, and Charizard. And the yarn Yoshis, but that's not any time soon.

Yet I'm checking Gamestop for Ness. Bwahahaha.
