I have one Wave 3 preorder at Gamestop and "in-store pick up", I didn't choose delivery to save the shipping.  Do you think it's risky to do the "in-store pick up"? Will they really hold and call for pick up?

For a whole distrct? Not in the slightest. Most districts, that's like 2 per store.

And for the guy with the Sonic amiibo cancelled by WalMart, same boat here. I was able to grab one from Amazon wgen they went up for about an hour the other day, but don't have any faith in that. I have a feeling Walmart is quietly cancelling some orders, a have a hunch they oversold. Remember they had preorders up the longest for wave 3.
 
Now everyone has me worried about Wal Mart orders. When did you place these orders? Mine were done Jan 3rd and both my Sonic and Ike are still processing after I received the new updated release dates for the shipments.

Preordered all of wave 3 on Dec 16 at Walmart, cancelled Bowser, Sheik and Toon Link since I grabbed them at TRU. Sonic was cancelled by Walmart, still have Ike, Mega Man and King Dedede processing, but if it changes I'll post here.
 
Has anyone gotten any notifications about Lucario from TRU Ebay? Getting a little concerned there's no mention this close to the release date

 
As far as the tru shipments go I would assume they get daily shipments from ups and FedEx. That's how it worked when I use to work at Walmart. Also I have no worries about my Lucario preorder after I stopped in and talked to them about it. They had boxes of them in the back and they knew about the preorder cards. It's gonna be an early morning for Rosalina however. Is it a violation that I'm going to get more exercise running to get Rosalina than I do on any other day?! Lol

I only have Shulk pre-ordered at my local GS (which I paid off today), but they're not expecting to get him in til the 13th.
They had Bowser out for sale already, but they weren't sure when the rest would become available.

 
This whole 'Nintendo created false demand' is nauseating.  Went to ToysRus with my 10 year old on Sunday, and noticed a manager bringing out some wave 3 amiibos from the back.  My son got excited, and asked if they had more, and some 40 something year old quickly interrupted 'No, those are mine' (not the manager).  Same guy spent about 10 minutes inspecting every single Donkey Kong on the rack until he found one that was perfect for his collection.

Meanwhile, my son cannot have a single new wave 3 amiibo, because unless you pre-order these 'effing' things your chances of getting them are near zero (thanks to Nintendo)...end of rant. (yes, I know first world problems)

If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't spend a dime on any Nintendo items these days...

Did the guy buy multiples? While I agree that being forced to pre-order is quite lame, if he only got one of each then there are far worse people out there. Still sucks that you could not get one. GL in the search.

All in all sounds like your son learned some valuable lessons.

1. Just because you are a kid doesn't mean you get everything you want

2. Toys aren't just for kids and never have been

3. Don't rely on B&M stores for anything, because it's a waste of time

4. The Internet is your friend "No son they don't have any rosalina like you wanted, but let's check online next time instead of crossing our fingers that a hot selling toy will just happen to have one in stock while we are picking up toilet paper"

5. People are different, and that's ok. One guy makes sure his donkey kong has a perfect paint job, you yourself may not care. Nothing wrong or right about it.

For some reason I would really like to see a scalper in real life - I'm talking about some obses, poorly groomed, 40-something guys in dirty t-shirts yelling/elbowing little kids for a plastic figurine. They make a good case for Psychiatry.
