Toad is now sold out on Amazon. Looks like Toad will the rare one.
I can say with utmost certainty that none in the Mario series will be rare :p Nintendo has been positioning it as an "always available" type series (whereas the Smash Bros amiibos will likely all be discontinued at some point). And they are all super popular characters - even Toad. I suspect they are printing up a ton of him. He's just selling out now because he's new.

I'm probably not going to get any of the super mario wave amiibos, I may consider a toad if the pixel toad thing is decent. I think I am going to stick with the smash bros wave. Really hoping I can get a Rosalina this weekend.

where's the people who were arguing with me that wave 4 wouldn't sell out and would be able to be preordered for a month

i don't see any evidence that shows nintendo is positioning it as always available series. The only thing you're going by is the name which they could easily change to something new when a new mario game comes out.

Lol lets slow down...only Toad has sold out and its Amazon, plus they are the only ones that have put up any so of course it would have sold out in what, 2 hours? Lets see how long these things are around when every store gets them. I don't think anyone thinks wave 4 will stick around for a month like wave 3 did but lets hope for everyone's sake they last longer than the hour you or whoever else it was predicted. I mean thats about like Rosalina, except x6.

peoples need toad to unlock extra in the game. No way toad will be rare maybe 6 months after toad release. No worry about new mario patch. Possible old mario with fireball will discontinue when new mario hit the shelves but it will be for while. My local target not sell sheik early, they have 4 instock at independence, missouri. Called blue springs target someone buy them all 4 sheik still have 4 sheik show in stocks on brickseek.com. oh well the hunt begins this amiibo bowl, lol

How could they easily change it? The packaging is already finalized. It doesn't say "Mario Party" on it like the others say "Smash Bros."

I'm not saying they won't make new Mario amiibos. If they do release another big, mainstream Mario game, they probably will. But they haven't announced anything yet. And in the meantime, they have a bazillion spinoff games that use the Mario characters but are not big enough to get their own line of Amiibos. They are going to keep supply of these up to support all those games. This series allows them to discontinue the Smash Bros amiibos (which, let's be honest, were not designed well anyways - I'm guessing Nintendo is eager to replace the weird plastic butter stands with models that don't need those as soon as possible :p)

The only amiibos that aren't being produced in big quantities are the ones that Nintendo doesn't think will sell - mainly from series that don't have very many games or otherwise aren't that popular (exclusion probably for Animal Crossing, but then until they announce Animal Crossing Wii U, the Villager Amiibo is pretty useless so he may have been deemed unpopular). The Mario series is the exact opposite of that.

Yeah, I agree...they named it the Super Mario Series, I expect any other Mario game characters to be a part of this series instead of them making yet another series only to make more Mario themed characters. I have my fingers crossed for a Zelda series with the new Wii U Zelda coming at some point :)...though at the same time I hope they continue with the Mario series or something else I am not that interested in so I can not bother with this lol. Maybe theyll move on the make the 5 billion pokemon and just ride that out forever without bothering with other series.

Alright, so for those wanting Sheik, almost all the Targets should have gotten a shipment of them around noon today, and all the Targets around me only received 4 from that shipment, according to an employee and the inventory checker. At the Target I went to, they also had boxes of Bowser and just one box for Toon Link, and a lot of Rosalina boxes, but those are being held onto until 2/1.

So basically, if you go to a Target (or call in, but YMMV on the service), ask about the Sheik amiibo with DPCI 207-00-5024 and they have it there, you /should/ be able to get it. If they say stuff about the street date of 2/1, you can politely ask to recheck it because it actually does not have that street date, and that other Targets have been selling them. I went to two Targets and they limited it to 1 per customer.

People in San Jose area, there are a few Sheiks out there that are untouched - they will either be on the shelf or in a box inside the electronics desk. According to brickseek there are a lot in the East Bay too, and a couple in SF and south of SF cities. Brickseek seems to accurately update within 20-30 minutes. Get them now if you want Sheik!!!

I strongly suspect we'll see the following:

* Zelda Wii U series of amiibos (themed after the characters in the upcoming Wii U game)

* Animal Crossing Wii U amiibos (when they inevitably announce that game :p)

* Some kind of Pokemon series to go along with the next mainline (i.e. not remake) game.

I think those three are huge series for Nintendo so they will get their own lines for sure. Star Fox *may* but I'm not sure the franchise is big enough. I guess it depends on how much they want to push it, or if they just want to use the Smash Fox & Falco amiibos. Ditto with the new Fire Emblem - a year ago I would have said no way, but Awakening had amazing sales, so who knows.

I'd be curious to see how they would handle Animal Crossing & Pokemon though. Those series have *so* many characters that there's no way they could do them all. But maybe for Animal Crossing, something like the main characters (Tom Nook, Isabelle, K.K. Slider, etc)? God help me if they try to do all the animals :p Pokemon, I wonder if they would approach it like they have mega evolutions and just do a handful of popular Pokemon (and probably the starters from whatever game they are made for). Probably also re-models of the Smash Pokemon amiibo.

Well darn, added toad to my cart about an hour ago when I saw it and figured there'd be plenty of time for me to add the others once I got home so I didn't have to do it in the car... Guess I gotta swing by GS or BB later then!

You may want to keep checking. Sometimes these things go back in stock randomly (at least right after they initially sell out).

just because toad unlocks something doesn't mean it will be magically common

for those with Best Buy Preorders (in store):

I just called them to see if I had anything ready for pick up and they told me Toon LInk, Bowser, and Sheik are ready.   I never got a definitive email about picking them up, so if you're waiting for one, you probably won't get it.

agree....in fact, i would imagine toad would be the highest selling figure in the super mario series and if true, i have 100% confidence that nintendo has not accounted for this and they will not be able to fill demand right away, if ever

I got an email from best buy saying all mine would be ready sunday...sheik, toon link, and bowser. So far best buy has been great to me. No cancellations and have gotten them all. Hope that holds up since wave 3 I did the buy 2 get 1 free deal.

they can make a "NEW super mario series" a few months later. Super Mario Series #2, they could easily make a new mario series for every new mario game. They could also decide to keep the smash bros series. There is no way to say that it will be always available.

They can, but they won't. It's expensive to develop new molds for these characters. They aren't going to do it on a whim.

My wallet will not survive if they release a set of Animal Crossing amiibos.

NINTENDO should make nintendo adventures for wii u just likes disney infinity compatible with all amiibos already released. Also require token to unlock different world or universe. Every world have bosses, lol

Just a heads up, i stopped by a local Meijer store tonight and they had Browser and Toon Link for sale.  Didn't see any Shieks but that doesn't mean someone already bought them out.

Was really lucky and got the last Shiek and Toon Link at a toy r us that they were hiding behind the counter.

That email means nothing until release day. They told me those emails are automatic as they cancelled captain falcon and pit on release day even though I got the pickup ready email the day before.

Guys is toon link hard to find? I found one at a frys and I really wanted him but if he's no rare I'll just get him later
Probably not but get it if you actually want it. Plenty of people every wave that actually want one, pass thinking it won't be rare, then can't find it ever again. Better to have to return it.

Every single Super Mario preorder is sold out on Amazon. A preview of how things are going to be now?
it's such a shame....i've been watching online EVERY day for when preorders will become available and then it lasts only a couple of hours....this means you need to be lucky or by a computer every hour.....ridiculous

My set of two Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer just came in from amazon.de. For international shipping they came in surprisingly good condition.

this is what i've been saying since the new amiibos were announced. Most characters will not last the whole day.
how about more than 4 hours? this is what i was saying earlier....nintendo knows how many amazon/bb/gs etc preorder....why can't they make at least that many

my toon link on amazon is now due march 2nd
