[quote name='Dkellar']You might be able to. To me, the A+ seems more focused on PC repair. It's useful since you have proof of your knowledge of PCs both on a hardware and software level. I would say the A+ is like a high school diploma of the PC world. So you might want to pursue other certifications such as some of the Microsoft ones or Cisco ones. I know the Cisco ones require you to retake the exam every 2-3 years. The A+, I think it is just a one time shot but is always good to retake it after a few years. Not sure about some of the MS ones.

Yea, I did some reading, the A+ is more focused on PC repair / building / installation / basic stuff, but it seems to be a good start to getting your foot in the door. I actually took PC Repair 1 and 2 in college a few years ago, but didn't have the money at the time to take the test, and forgot about it.
I don't want to do retail while I finish up college, so I figure if I get my A+, shoehorn it into a semi non retail computer job, and keep getting cert's while I finish up school, I shouldn't really have a problem.
But definitely, thanks for this book, I think I might head down to Barnes and Noble and grab a copy with the discount card.
It really can't hurt to have some extra certification when looking for a job, and it certainly opens up more possibilities than just retail work.
