And so it begins. Ps3 pre-orders on EBAY

Since this auction will most likely get pulled by eBay by morning, I'll update the current status of it:

11 hours in (started at 11:16 on the 10th), 15 bids, up to $1125 now. Shipping is a (very low, actually, considering this thing will weigh a ton) $25. Was from a Gamestop preorder.

Now, with all the other ones being pulled earlier today, why is this one still up??

OK, it appears many more are up now.

I did a quick search for "Sony Playstation 3 preorder" and it came up with a total of 8 auctions. 3 of those are for lists of stores that will presell (WTF?) for $29.99.

The remaining 5 seem to be for real PS3s:

1) the 20GB model, currently at $710 (zero fb bidder)
2) a 60GB, also curiously at $710 from a zero fb bidder
3) TWO PS3's and 19 games (!), currently at $1222 without meeting the reserve and a Buy It Now option for $6000.
4) A 60GB with a Buy It Now of $1850.
5) A 60GB with starting bid of $2500 and Buy It Now of $3000 (no bids yet).

If you take the word "Sony" out of the search you get a few more  - dumbass sellers...

OK, if you take out "preorder" and search on "Playstation 3 60GB" you get 50 active auctions. "Playstation 3 60 GB" nets 21 more.

As for *completed* auctions:

 You MUST look at this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Playstation-3-P...ryZ62054QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And this wierd one from a few weeks ago (went for only $610):
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-PlayStatio...ryZ62054QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

OK, those were the only 2 with the word "preorder". It seems people aren't using that word very much. Just searching for completed "Playstation 3 60 GB" and "Playstation 3 60GB" that ended Oct 10th, I get these completed auctions:

1) A Buy It Now for $1700 ended early by the seller (he caught on to the bannings?)
2) One for $1799, bought by a zero-feedback bidder
3) One for $1495
4) One for $1365
5) A Best Offer accepted for $1250
6) $1499
7) $1250
8) $1900 (!)
9) $1250
10) $1999 (!!)
and several that were killed by the sellers due to "an error in the listing"

But THAT IS IT for that search - it seems most were killed by eBay as I'm sure there were 100's (if not 1000's) up today. Just comparing completed to the current active ones it simply seems that eBay is not as active this late at night killing them off - I'm sure many will be gone by morning.

I'm just wasting time avoiding doing my work :D. The whole ebay dynamic is kind of interesting to me though...

im not sure why ebay would kill any real auction.
And i doubt they will if its legitimate.

I simply typed in ps3 for my seach.

People are trying to get a quick profit but they may be risking more money after launch (when everyone will know for certain there screwed for xmas)

right now people still think they have a chance to walk into stores on nov 17th and pick one up.
The million dollar one makes me laugh, and then cry on the inside cause some rich kid would actually be willing to pay that.
I can't imagine it is real - why would seller put a Buy It Now of a million? Imagine the closing fees on that sucker. Maybe it was a hijacked account and someone was just screwing with it.

I think the buyer misunderstood and thought he was paying in bells....

The craziest (or saddest) thing about this ebay pre-order stuff is that it is only get worse and prices are only going to sky rocket.

If I was rich and had a few extra grand laying around to buy a system, I would wait until launch day and buy a system where someone with a couple hundred positive feedbacks had a legit picture of the sealed boxed system.
supposedly you cant sell Ps3's on ebay
Check again. There are probably 2-3 dozen on there right now.
supposedly you cant sell Ps3's on ebay
Actually, that's not totally true. eBay is currently removing all PS3 listings at this point. They are removing them because of the eBay rule that states that all merchandise much be delivered to the buyer within 30 days. With many of these people having reservations for something that they won't get until at least November 17th, they cannot legitimately sell the machines at this point. In 20-25 days, you'll see eBay start allowing them to list the machines because it's much closer to the release date. But right now, they are removing the listings as quickly as they can and are suspending the sellers who violate the policy.
Seems prices are ending around 1250 (rounded) from real buyers. Didn't the 360 go for more?
No.
Seems prices are ending around 1250 (rounded) from real buyers. Didn't the 360 go for more?
1. No, the 360's topped out around $1000 at the highest point.

2. Not sure how your seeing a finished auction as eBay is currently not allowing sales until we get closer to the release date. That may have been a current bid figure on a listing that was later cancelled or removed, but it certainly wasn't a final bid.

You guys obviously didn't really pay attention last year. The first day the Xbox 360 was out they were selling many in the 1200-1500 range. Once I saw this I tried like hell to get a system to resell but couldn't find one until March.

I won't doubt what you're saying. Most of them went for very high 3 figures from when I looked around. I'm sure the PS3 will be even more ridiculous. In the end, if you're spending 1000, 1200, or 1500 on a system that you can get retail for 600 (400 in the case of 360), you aren't a person who is concerned about price in the first place. So I'm not sure that the price matters all that much. I'm not one to buy at those inflated prices. I took 30 minutes to run down to my local Gamestop and evidently saved myself a lot of money.

If people are going to go nuts for this console, let them waste their money on eBay. for one thing you don't have to deal with the angry mob on launch day trying to kill you for a system. They'd rather spend more money at the comfort in front of their computer rather than standing in line and possibly getting stabbed/robbed for retail price. Commend sony for rushing out the PS3 and creating this kind of demand for it.

That's BS right there. I had a friend sell his for $1200. And some of the E10M and Hex168 winners sold theirs for $1500+ before the launch happened since they got their systems early.

I should paint one a different color and sell it on eBay, the Llama.com blue Xbox 360 went for around $10,000 about a week or two after launch:hot:

Some of you get excited waaay to easily. Only time will tell if he pays.

people must be freakin' idiots. Why on earth would you pay that much money for a PS3, or the Xbox 360 when it came out. Just be an intelligent human being, practice some self control and wait! Just insane.

didn't ebay release a statement saying that they are restricting who can sell the ps3's? Like you have to have so much feedback?

*edit*

guess not as I found a user who only has 4 feedback and is selling a ps3. Suprised anyone is even bidding on it as out of his 4 feedbacks only 80% are positive.

I thought that as well, ebay is just terrible with their rules and regulations. All they care about is making $$$. When a PS3 sells for around $1300-1400 they get around $100+ in fees. A nice chunk of your profit.

My only concern when I sell my PS3 is the potential for fraud or chargebacks from people filing false claims of not receiving their item through PayPal. All the horror stories I've heard is that PayPal will ALWAYS side with the buyer, and will instantly reverse a payment if they claim they never received their item. I, and likely many others, may only be accepting Check or Money Order payments for this one.

Insure it and use a delivery conformation, you can even use a signature conformation and you will be able to fight the claim. Plus most the times after I receive something via paypal I turn around and transfer it to my bank account.

Paypal will not always side with the buyer. If the seller provides a tracking number, then thats good enough for them. Its the credit card company chargebacks you need to worry about since they will always side with thier client and paypal cant really do anything about that.

yep. I was at Best Buy checking out their HD-DVDs and overheard 2 guys checking out Blu-Ray players. one of them starts talking about the high price on the players and that he was going to wait for the PS3. the other guy tells him good luck finding one. 99% of them will be on ebay for triple the money. the guy replies that that's where he's getting one. he said he's going to bid whatever and after he gets it he's going to do a chageback afterwards.

Someone should make a faq/sticky about how to protect yourself if you are selling items on ebay. I think there are several of us here on CAG that would like to sell our old games and systems on ebay. For those new to selling online, we should warn them of the scams that people run to get your items without paying.

does this only apply to ebay purchases? I bought a Neo-Geo system for 265.00 on another forum and used paypal and I didn't have to sign for it when it shipped.
For anything over $250, you need a signature, too.
There are too many caveats and potential for loss when selling a one-time deal like this...I've rescinded my intentions of camping out at a Target/CC for a PS3 and throwing one on eBay. I can't afford the hit if Paypal somehow sides with a fradulent buyer. :cold:

I'll make my money off sporadic, cumulative sales on eBay and other sites.

But with everything I've sold so far, I always include DC and recommend insurance; purchases over $75 mandatorily include insurance factored into S&H. I haven't had any problematic buyers so far, but the deluge of zero FB'ers will caution me a bit.

I guess I would make sure there is tracking on the package and that they have to sign for it when it is delivered. Also, make sure that the mailing address is the same as the address on the paypal account.

This is what I'm doing. I've never made a transaction worth as much as the ps2, but I've done several involving expensive car audio. I'm not sure I want to accept paypal because I want the money as soon as possible and because I've seen too many instances of sellers getting ripped off by paypal--usually shipping overseas though.

Set the following buyer requirements in your preferences:

-Buyers in countries to which I don't ship (I'm shipping within the U.S. only)
-
Block buyers who have a feedback score of -1-2-3 or lower.
-Block buyers who have received 2 Unpaid Item strikes in the last 30 days.
-Block buyers who are currently winning or have bought 1 of my items in the last 10 days. Only apply this block to buyers who have a feedback score of 5 or lower.

I'm only accepting USPS money order. Any tampering with a transaction involving the USPS is a federal offense. I'm still considering using paypal. If you do use paypal, require immediate payment and verify the names and address right after.

Insurance is included automatically.

The buyer will be given tracking information.

The buyer must sign for the package for me to verify it has been accepted.

I'm also going to use express or overnight shipping (I have 75% off at FedEx) and am requesting that the buyer send payment immediately so I can hopefully have money by Black Friday.

That's useful information. I didn't even notice that you could edit buyer preferences on Ebay!

I looked around the USPS web page, and I found that the maximum amount of a money order there is $1000. That also applies for the total money order amount per day (a person can't send a $1000 and then send a $460 one). This could be an issue with the PS3 sale.

Is there any truth to eBay only allowing *one* PS3 console to be sold on eBay?

Long story short, I did the "click here for a free PS3" website (two of them, to be precise); since I've received stuff from both companies in the past, I fully expect to get these PS3s.

The problem? I finished both sites' requirements before the price/tier announcement, so now I have two 20GB consoles coming to me. I don't want them, I want the 60GB instead.

It's unlikely that I'll get either of those consoles this year (I did the 360 website last year, and didn't get it until late April in the form of a gift certificate I used to buy a 360 - they didn't ship any 360s until *JULY*).

So much for "long story short," huh? Anyway, I'm going to have 2 20GB systems I plan on selling off; will I run into any problems with eBay in the unlikely event that I actually get both this year?

I didn't know that.. and that really sucks.

It may have to be paypal for me then.

If the PS3 launch numbers drop and EBgames/Gamestop can fill all of the promised preorders, there is going to be a lot of pissed off ebay sellers out there.

Looks like pre-orders on ebay are starting to level off. Ones with games can now be had for around $1500, in no way is that cheap, but it is starting to go for around the 360 price tag. Next spike will occur November 17th at around 12:10 a.m.

i posted my ps3 on ebay but it hasn't actually shown up on any searches i've done for it?! what gives...i have fulfilled all the requirements necessary to post my auction on ebay...does anyone know what im doing wrong

I won't have my ps3 till 7AM. Thats when the wal-mart I am camping at opens. I will then head home, take pictures, then put it on ebay. 1 day auction.

Anyone think it would be a good idea to buy a game or 2 to bump up the price?
