The old thread hadn't been updated in quite some time, so I decided to make a new one. If you happen to see a sale not listed in the OP, go ahead and post it and I will be sure it's added. The same goes for anything listed that has expired as most sales have no set time frame, let me know and I will remove expired sales. Thanks!

The first thing I install on any Android device is Droid48. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ab.x48
I've had that installed for years... it's nice to have a virtual calculator I know intimately... key spacing and tactile feel is wrong however... And while I still haven't quite adjusted to the keyboard on my 50g, I appreciate the extra 2 lines.

My highest recommendation for the Amazon app store is the Wolfram Alpha app. This is an incredible bit of software, really. Use your coins for it. It is just remarkable in its simplicity and usefulness.
As far as I understand the Wolfram Alpha app is largely an appropriate keyboard for the Wolfram Alpha site. I use Wolfram Alpha on occasion when I don't have a Mathematica installation handy. It's quite powerful, but it doesn't support some of the really advanced stuff Mathematica does... but even in grad school it covers most stuff.)

I'm *really* tempted to participate in The Recoining™, but don't want to risk the possibility of getting my account flagged. :/

Did the delete trick once.  Probably won't do it again, less because of account fears and more because $50 worth of coins is getting a bit ridiculous.

Considering how many coins Amazon has been giving out lately, I doubt you'll be in need of more even without rebuying apps.
True. Currently sitting on 3600 legitimate coins w/ little I want to spend them on.

Bought all the Elder Sign IAPs. Considering all the Carcassonne IAPs. Trying to decide if I care enough about Summoner Wars to buy those IAPs.

Might go for the previously mentioned Wolfram Alpha. I've almost talked myself into getting Monument Valley. But I'm trying to concentrate on board games apps and their IAPs.

Have you updated Carcassonne? The version I have now requires no permissions AT ALL, and the new updated version is asking for 5 or 6, without any explanation as to why. This wouldn't be an issue if the Amazon App Store required and posted a changelog.

Application Permissions:

  • Open network sockets
  • Write to external storage
  • Access information about Wi-Fi networks
  • Access information about networks
  • PowerManager WakeLocks to keep processor from sleeping or screen from dimming
Which ones have you concerned? I imagine the top 4 are necessary for the IAPs. The last one I like because my phone defaults to dim then sleep in under 30 seconds.

I'm running the latest version. I imagine I looked at the permissions at the time (because I always check the permissions) and didn't see anything I was worried about. I agree a changelog would be nice. I didn't even see the permissions listed on the Play store.

Wish SE would of released Dragon Quest VIII for Amazon Appstore as well today so I could use my coins on it. Can't see myself spending $19.99 on a port with no controller support and appears to be restricted to portrait mode. Going to wait for a sale like I did with the FF ports.

I tried Carcarcssone, couldn't quite get into it. Was never really sure exactly what I was doing and the computer beat me every time. There was no story, or leaderboards., or reason to keep playing beyond three times.

May pick up that Elder Signs game. 300 mb install though. Might need to clear up some room.

And whoops, sorry for the double post for some reason tapatalk wants to always quote when I'm trying to edit my original post.

I bought FF IV with coins and I keep getting the "insufficient storage error" when installing even though from what I see I have more than enough.  500mb+ app storage and 9.4gb+ of internal for a 440mb app.  I should have plenty of ram as well.  Any suggestions?

I haven't had that error on my android phone, but if it's anything like installing on an ipad, it needs almost double the final amount to install it. For example, a 440MB app would take 880 to install it, but in the end, it would only use up the 440 on your storage. Again, I don't know if this is the case, but it's possible.

My phone will generally give me that error if anything I will install will leave me with 300 mb or so of app storage after it's finished.

I had issues installing FF4 as well. I kept getting "could not install app" from Amazon. It basically took an act of God & multiple restarts before it would install. My suggestion, at least this works on my phone, Switching from landscape to portrait and back.

For my phone (HTC Evo 3D) when it hits the error "cannot install app" instead of hitting ok I switch to landscape mode. It then attempts to install the phone again, I wait, if the error happens again I switch back to portrait mode. If you dont, make sure you have auto rotate screen on.

Do not hit ok & then try & redownload from Amazon again. I watched my memory drop by double & triple everytime I tried to re-DL it. Which is why I had to restart to clear the memory & Cache.

That worked for me, so maybe it could work for you? Always worth a shot right?

Monument Valley is fun. A bit short, but it feels fine when you have your coins to spend. In other words, I wanna talk you into it.

You play Ticket to Ride?

Thanks for the info everyone.

I have thought about this possibility, but I have installed some apps that are a gig+ (some Gameloft games) which are bigger than my total app storage. However, most big apps I have installed have been from Google and not Amazon. I am not for certain if I have received similar errors from Google Play. I have had this problem several times with Amazon, and usually uninstalling a couple of apps does the trick. This time it has not.

First, I can understand the double space requirement if it includes the downloading of the apk and then the space needed to copy the files from the apk to wherever the app's final destination happens to be. However, I have already downloaded the apk, it just won't install.

Second, one quirk of Android that I find really annoying: Most apps will default install to both app storage and internal storage, but you never know how much to each. You would think that if an app of ~400mb was installed, it would only install ~50-100 mb to app storage and the rest to internal. Therefore, you wouldn't need double in app storage of the entire thing. The install size give on Amazon is not specific enough.

My phone will generally give me that error if anything I will install will leave me with 300 mb or so of app storage after it's finished.
I guess I might need to uninstall more stuff then. I just wish I knew how much would be installed to app storage to begin with and how much is internal. That might be why some very large apps installed in the past (as mentioned above), i.e. most of the install must have gone to internal, while only 50mb or so went to apps storage. Does anyone know how much FF IV install to app storage by default?

I will give that a try and see what happens, thanks.

I didn't notice your GbV title before. I've got my ticket for the Portland show next weekend. It's probably been more than a decade since the last time I saw them.
Had planned on going to the Portland show as well. Couldn't quite justify the ticket price. Even though it's the "classic" (ha!) line up.

Weird question, but does anyone know if there's a way play a video on an Android phone while talking on the phone at the same time? I'd imagine it would only play audio for either the video or the phone call, is there a way to play both simultaneously?

It's really a beautiful game, but Def not worth the $3.99 price. Ten "levels" that took me all of 40 minutes to complete, and that was with redoing the first two levels to show my mom how pretty it is. If you must have it get it either on sale or from an apk site. Some games are worth paying for, some aren't even with free coins.

Nice catch, that was another easy 1000 coins. And it only worked once, so we'll see what happens tomorrow.
Did the delete/rebuy myself this afternoon around 4pm, is there a reset time to delete again or is it like 24 hours after repurchase?

I was just guessing it was once a day. It's been more than 24 hours and I tried again and it didn't work. So maybe it's longer than that or maybe they fixed the glitch like they did for GTA San Andreas.

I got the free apps on May 22nd and then tried again on the 28th just for the hell of it and it gave me the 1,000 Amazon Coins again.

I was just thinking I might pick this up. I have the DRM-free app of the core game and 1910 from a humble bundle but I'd like to grab the other maps. If I rebuy Ticket to Ride on Amazon, can I buy the add-on maps with amazon coins too?
It seems that most games that offer IAP through Amazon allow you to buy DLC with coins, but I can't speak to the validity of that statement. My Ticket to Ride was also purchased through Humble, and those two maps are enough to keep me interested at least twice a week.

It didn't, it's just that Borderlands bought exclusive rights to it.
I love borderlands but I just don't have the time to put into games like that anymore... stupid responsibilities.

I am finding that a lot of mobile gaming sucks but there are quite a few gems to be found... it's going places and I finally believe that.

The delete 5 apps and rebut them thing still works. However I'm still not able to use that Damn promo credit...

Well, I was excited to get my tablet today, but seems I got one of the duds.  Boo!  Aren't they supposed to test these things after they refurbish them?

Mine was not charged at all, which was a bad sign from the start.  Tried the stock charger, but it wouldn't charge.  Tried the stock base with a different USB cord and it charged enough for me to turn it on, but as soon as I did it started giving me messages of connecting my charger  Since then, I've tried several combinations of USB cables/bases and none can charge the thing and it is down from 8% to 5% charge.

I'm hoping Newegg will let me exchange it so I can hopefully get a good one.  They should really maybe charge this these things after "fixing" them to make sure they work.

What do you think it is? An Apple Refurb?

Aww sorry. I've had really variable results from refurbs over the years from unsold stock, to broken crap resold. I consider it as used unless sold from a known good refurb seller (e.g. Apple & Canon).

Yeah, I've had mixed results from refurbs, mostly positive, but I prefer new unless the price difference is huge, which it is in this case. I'm going to see about an exchange on this one and give them one more try.

Yea, that is a pretty shitty testing job done. Though I imagine once you get the exchange, it will be good. I am the same with my electronic devices; it has to be a substantial savings for me to buy a refurb. Thankfully the few times I have, everything has gone smooth.
