The old thread hadn't been updated in quite some time, so I decided to make a new one. If you happen to see a sale not listed in the OP, go ahead and post it and I will be sure it's added. The same goes for anything listed that has expired as most sales have no set time frame, let me know and I will remove expired sales. Thanks!

I'm terrible in describing games. It's like turn based rpg but very little in way of rpg. Like a whimsical fire emblem almost.
I haven't played Steamworld Heist either but the Kingturn games by Mangobile are good turn based RPGs that often has specific objectives (reach xyz destination, defeat this specific enemy, capture certain bases).

I'd suggest Crowntakers which is a turn based RPG. It isn't a strategy game like Fire Emblem, but the hard difficulty is similar to FE in that if you die, you lose everything and have to start from scratch. It can also be played with a game pad, and it's Shield TV compatible for those who have one. A real Android hidden gem.

What type of game is Steamworld Heist?
I'm playing it now on PS4. It's fantastic. It's turn based with weapon sway. Each mission puts you on an alien ship with your goofy team of robots [usually 1-4 members of your team]. You can move units in any order (even switching mid turn and coming back to them once other things are 'set up'). Each has different skills/perks/upgrades/weapons. Generally, you can either 'sprint', 'move then fire', or just fire. You have access to all the stats you'll need [ie, enemy hit points, your weapon's damage range, etc].

So, for example, you might move one unit up to cover, then take a shot which wounds an enemy. Have another unit sprint across the map for cover. Then your third team member has a special skill that lets them take a second shot if they kill their first target, so they shoot the wounded unit, then kill another unit.

Shots are turn based, but there's a slight amount of weapon sway, so you sometimes need to time a shot 'just right'. Some units are sharpshooters so have laser aimsights, others have heavy weapons, assault, etc. Oh, and you can collect hats by shooting them off enemies... though you don't wound them doing this so you've got to be careful.

As you spread out over the missions, you upgrade your units, find new cool stuff, new team members, etc.

The game is absolutely fantastic imo. Great gameplay, silly story, good music.

It's also one of three games you can buy for $1 in the lowest tier of the newest Humble Bundle that came out this week. Bought it after I posted.

Nice. Got Shadow Warrior 2 just a few days ago. Sweet that this came out on Android.

Thanks for the heads up!
I'll just say up that I don't know how good it is, but as always if you don't like it, you have less than two hours to refund. I'm definitely buying Chroma Squad and this one today for my Shield TV though.

Defense Zone 3 Ultra HD is currently free, and it is Shield TV compatible:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.defensezone3.ultra
Have you been able to get this to work on Shield TV? Doesn't seem to have controller support so I just got stuck on the menu.

Sucks because it sounds good and is supposedly 4K.

It can be maddening how there are games that don't support Shield that say it is supported and then games that aren't supported that would work if sideloaded.

if you got a  tab4 a  few years back.. any reason to buy a  ipad....  People been telling me just to keep the  TAB4 and  buy a new  Tab  stay away from  ipads since  very few games are free on ipad  (find more free stuff on google play for free

Honestly, I download a lot of apps but then I don't actually play them, but you're right - Chroma Squad says it's compatible, but it doesn't work on Shield TV. Shadow Warrior Class definitely works on Shield TV though. I played it for a while last night. And I suck at it big time.

Meanwhile in China, Nintendo is putting out real games for the Shield

‘Twilight Princess’ may hit Nvidia Shield first

Sorry for using a Flipboard link but that's what I was viewing it in. Should still open in a regular browser I think.

A Stork's Journey, an animated movie, is free to own on Google Play for a limited time:

https://play.google.com/store/movies/details?id=WdBwD2tFobA

Tokaido: A Fun Strategy Game is another board game adaptation that is $2.99 down from $6.49 on sale on Google Play (Shield TV compatible with a mouse plugged in, I tried it):

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.funforgedigital.tokaido&referrer=utm_source%3DBlog%26utm_medium%3DApp%26utm_campaign%3Dfeatured_sale&rdid=com.funforgedigital.tokaido

Tokaido's tutorial isn't very good, though, so although the controls work, I will probably refund it because I can't figure out what to do.

Tokaido is a fun board game, for sure. A shame their tutorial for the app isn't so good. Since my wife and son both like playing it with me, I'll pass on the app.

A lot of board game adaptations are good on Android, but they cost more than most other apps which is why if they don't hook me right away, I go ahead and refund them. But, speaking of board games, here's more on sale on Google Play.

Pickomino - 99 cents:

Demon's Rise is $1.49. Looks like a fun SRPG of sorts. Claims to be shield compatible but I haven't verified that. Looks fun enough for a tablet that I don't really care if it's not.

Evoland is 99 cents. Also claims Shield compatibility.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.shirogames.evoland12&hl=en

Great Little War Game 1 & 2 are $1.99. I can vouch that the developer's f2p combat monsters is fun. I assume that the same holds true for these. I can't tell if these are new prices or a sale. One now says it contains ads where the others never have before.

I can confirm that Evoland is Shield TV compatible. Thanks for not letting this thread die.

Demon's Rise is pretty decent. Way better than Great Little War games....I didn't like the first one I played. Simple in a way but has lot and some strategy. Good for the sale price.

Demon's Rise definitely seems like a fun game. I've played the first few areas, and definitely will go back...once I get some Angry Birds Evolution out of my system, that is....

That game any good? Haven't played Angry Birds since the Star Wars 1 one.
It's billiards angry birds... It's not horrible. I'll stick to star trek timelines, star wars galaxy of heroes, tapped out and Saber's Edge for my games in the long run, though.

IIRC, arent they making another one for Andriod that matches the IOS one?
Don't know, but delistings are usually a big deal so I thought I should mention it here. Somehow I don't think this will receive its own thread like Alan Wake did. Ha! But seriously, if people own a Shield TV device, this version will work on it.

PSA: Buying Tallowmere for 99 cents on the Steam during the current Summer Sale will also get you the APK Android version for free. It can then be sideloaded, and it is Shield TV compatible. One of my favorite Android games.

Alright boys and girls we need some more activity in this thread so I've got lot's of goodies for you today. Please note that if I am listing a game as Shield Compatible that is according to it's listing and may or may not be completely true. Please verify within two hours of purchase to avoid missing out on your refund period.

Goat Simulator MMO Simulator (Shield Compatible) 1.99

Ys Chonicles 1 (Shield Compatible) 99 Cents

Steam: Rails to Riches 2.99 Claims Shield Compatible. It's a board game so I find that suspect.

Sentinels of the Multiverse 1.99

This War of Mine (Shield Compatible) 1.99

Oddworld Stranger's Wrath (Shield Compatible) 0.99

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee (Shield Compatible) 0.99

Knights of Pen & Paper +1 (Shield Compatible) 2.49

Crashlands 1.99

Toby: The Secret Mine (Shield Compatible) 1.49

Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic (Shield Compatible) 3.49

Anodyne 1.99
(It's really a true shame that this one isn't Shield compatible. Pretty fun.)

I've heard Crashlands is really good so I'm tempted to get it. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

Kingdom New Lands is on sale from $9.99 to $2.99. I'm considering getting it, but I wonder how it is with touch screens and an older device LG G3 or Kindle Fire HD 2012.
It's excellent on touch screens. Have it on X1 but double dipped with this sale on iOS. That said, not sure on performance with those devices. You should be able to filter reviews for your device on Google Play. Helpfully that'll give some indication.

Played the PC version, it's pretty fun if you like games like Don't Starve. Basically you go around trying to gather materials to craft shit before getting EAT'd by the dangerous wildlife. So kind of like living in Australia.

Crashlands is more humour oriented, compared to Don't Starve.

Anyone play the Sentinels of the Multiverse mobile version? I've played the tabletop version and it was a little overwhelming but I could see a mobile version actually being pretty cool if done well. I just can't trust reviews on the Play store.

I've played through the tutorial in which they guide you for the first few hands and then let you finish the game being played on your own. It seemed like a really good setup for the game. Easy enough to navigate. Play flows well. How it compares to the PC version though and if there are any differences I couldn't say. Only reason I haven't gone back is I have too many games and too little time to try them all. Season pass is expensive though. Then again it gets you tons of expansion stuff from other sets.

All that said, I played on a tablet, ymmv on a phone.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
