Animal Crossing: City Folk - Gen. Discussion and info

Wow. This blows so hard. :(

So I buy turnips in KingBroly's town. It's past 6am in his town, but it's still 3am ish in mine. I buy 600K's worth of turnips. I wake up a couple hours later to find out that all the recently bought turnips have spoiled. Looks like I'm going to have to resort to TT'ing to get my money back. That is such bullshit.

If you don't mind being a dirty cheater etc., I can hook you up with 600k or a bunch of turnips (I think) or whatever. Seems like it'd be easier to cut the BS since you're gonna be cheating for the money anyway.
Today is X5 in nooks store for me. I was able to gather a bunch of fruit and buy enough ball returns (the most expensive item in my catalog) and upgrade to silver. But i could of sworn the ball return was 6,000+ bells when i started and now its just under that. Around 5,800 or so. Does the price of items go down if you keep ordering them?
Here's all you need to know about 5x day:
1. They're awesome
2. To fully capitalize on them, you need a white katana in your catalog. Next best is moon, which I have and can let you catalog. (white katana's original price in the cat is around 37k, moon 32x)
3. You can't go past 50k rank points (they stop mattering when you hit platinum discount at 20k rank points) and you can't go past 50k total points (any more and it's just a waste of money, they stop counting until you buy stuff from the pts)
4. You get discounts and a model of a Tom Nook store at every rank upgrade. Gold is 10%, silver is 5%, and platinum is (?)20%.
5. Stocking up on points is worth it up to 50k points, because you can sell them to others for lots of bells, and the items look cool.

I don't want to say I told you so...so I won't. I can hook you up with some bells later in the week once I sell some turnips.

Right, because you warned me BEFORE I started buying turnips.

I'm not mad at you, but I'm mad at the game. I thought turnips were supposed to spoil at the end of Saturday, not before 6am on a Sunday. Meh, whatever, I'll get my money back.

I just bought like 20 Kings beards to get points. Im gold member now, with 6,053 points to go to the next level. Also turned in some points for a heros cap. Then ill get the shirt. :D Man my mailbox is going to get flooded.

Looks like ill have to spend 122,400 on 17 more beards to get to the next level. LOL. :)
Nice. So the flowers, hat, and glasses is what I need, eh? That works. Thanks!

 Well if you have a day to dedicate to do this.. or even get help.. (I didn't do this by myself) it'll be worth it. I am so careful to not run anymore.

I made a Snowman this morning. Was really easy to do
It is difficult to make snowman with limited snow coverage. My snowballs always seem to be in the middle of a huge area of bare ground.

Snowman building in this game also requires perfection. In WW if you got a positive response (I believe there were 3) you got a Snowman item. In this game, you have to get the 1 response for the reward.

Also, finding and shooting down items in this game is just freaking impossible. I've maybe seen 3 balloons in my town, and I've only shot down 1 because I can't find them. This isn't something that has transferred over well from the DS version at all.

the knocked down 6 or 7. but most of the time the first thing i saw was the shadow. it's pretty rare i look up at the sky. i still like it a lot. but i agree, that you definitely see a lot less in this version.

I once shot down 3 balloons in one sitting. but that sitting was a while. Usually you hear the wind blowing and see a shadow when they are near you. How do you manage to see 3 balloons and only shoot down 1. They are simple to shoot down.

You must have missed my dilemma over this this morning - I'm definitely glad I didn't head over to Broly's. My Joan had them for 98 anyway so I loaded up. I am NOT touching my clock now so they better stay good for the week!

I've found snowman making much easier in this game than in the other two. I've gotten all sorts of positive responses and gotten items every time. Only when he says "close but not quite" or something like that have I not gotten an item. Pretty much make the head almost as big as the body. I even measured it once before pushing them together - the head was .825 or so the diameter of the body. So that is even more than 3/4. When I failed in the beginning I was aiming for 1/2-3/4.

So, any high-priced TT turnip sellers today? ;)
Hey Io did you get the Redd invite that I sent to you yet?
Yes! Thanks a ton! It worked just fine. And I even got a real painting from Redd on my first try. Now hopefully the other invite I sent to my son will work (I had mailed him one someone handed to me which didn't work for me and didn't work for him as I wasn't a member yet).

A question - what is the special painting that goes behind the chain in the museum?

Tomorrow will have another odd giveaway, at a random time! Will it be clothing? Furniture? Sporting Goods? Who knows!

Shop Smart, Shop S-Mart.

You know im getting tired of these animals asking for a new phrase, or greeting. I mean its cool, but they ask me to give them a new one a lot. Sometimes a day after i just gave them one. if i dont they get sad. A lot of times they say the same stuff too. Like Iggy always has a brain cramp, and works out. And the bunny always eats 50 pounds of sponge cake and is walking it off. LOL.

i felt bad about it in the first 2 games. but no more. i'm calling it tough love. i've given them a good phrase and they'd better keep saying it.

and after i've said no, it seems like they've quit asking.
Aghh just got this game today. Its as addictive as the other two. Ill post my fc soon.
That's because it IS the other two.

Cept on the Wii, so now I write "Wii" next to penis constellations.

:D

The quicker I can dump these turnips for a high price the better. I still have to wait like 3 days for the Bridge voting to end, and I guess being built so I can get the Fountain.

I hate the whole grass growing glitch, because walking is so slow, and I don't want a Desert Town (I'm not wasting 6 months on growing grass). And then there's Nookway. It still hasn't given me the chance to upgrade it, so I guess I still have to spend a bunch of cash to get it, and then I have to keep it because Nook's an ass. Then again, the store hours...such an ass.

So when you go into certain areas in your town.........what is that weird noise. Like a buzzing. I thought maybe it was bugs but I didn't find any. Is that just a glitch or does that mean something? Or am I making this up in my head?? Probably the latter. LOL.

Bugs... just look carefully, some bugs can be hard to see, like ones on flowers.

Walking does NOT kill the grass anywhere NEAR as quickly as running will do. I've been to my friends town who didn't run at all..and they have very little ware..and that's where she walks a lot, which IMO, is ok.

Haven't gotten my bridge yet... i was really confused since I paid for it. Then I realized today, I only gave them 50,000 and not 500,000... Wish i hadn't bought that stupid crown now...

It's actually 2 weeks~ to upgrade and some other amount of bells, I think that includes buying and selling? But I'm not sure.

But yes, Nookington's hours blow. It makes it hard to play outside of his 9-9 hours. I can't wait until I can "upgrade" back to Nook 'n' Go.

I really want a silver fishing rod  Does anybody have an extra? I can trade you a silver slingshot.

That's probably a mole cricket. You have to dig up the ground until it pops out and runs around. Make sure you have a net handy.

Turnips selling for fifty-something right now...

How do you downgrade back to the Nook N Go? That was the 7am-1am

Why can't it be Nookingtons from 7am-1am?
Better yet.. why can't they just.. ask you (THE CUSTOMER) what kind of hours you would like to see?

Have longer hours on the weekends and near holidays...like most stores do.

It's really starting to get harder for me to make snowmen with very little snow left. I'm considering TTing or loading up some homebrew (which I have no clue how to do yet) just to get my grass back.

EDIT: Doomed, where are your pics from last night?

You know what I'd like to see in the next Animal Crossing? Cellphones. Call up a neighbor and tell them to wait at a specific point so you'll be right there to chat. That way I won't have to hunt high and low for them.

Also, high turnip prices anyone?

He does actually. After a set amount of time with Nookingtons, he asks you:

What would you like to see?
 • More Items (Nookingtons)
 • More Hours (Nook 'n' Go)
 • Balance Items/Hours (Nookway)
 • None of the above (Nook's Cranny)
You would think that as much of a rack that Nook is running, he would at least have extended hours, its the least he could do!
You would think that as much of a rack that Nook is running, he would at least have extended hours, its the least he could do!
Even better would be choosing your hours. You're be far his best (and only?) customer, so once you reach platinum (thus proving it) he should ask you what hours you want, because you're his best customer. Maybe you're at work from 7-6. So don't have hours there and have his hours extend into the night. Or maybe on weekends you sleep until 12. So make his hours 12-12 on weekends. (etc)

Does the lighthouse/windmill always go right where the river meets the sea?

I got my fountain today. But the mayor is standing in the way of me trying to get a silver or golden axe. I dunno if i should donate the 1 mil to get my lighthouse today or wait till tomorrow. Guess it wouldnt matter.

Since Doomed isn't around yet, here are some of the pics I took in my town last night. I have a few more on my Picasa Web Albums. Who knew clothes/hats/umbrellas could be so much fun? Hehe.

One more thing, does anyone have wendell in their town? Or maybe someone who has a cool pattern i can use to lay down paths in my village. Maybe someone could display it at the Tailor shop so i can buy it. Something like Brick, ground, or something that looks natural. I really want to lay down roads but dont have a good design to use. I dont want to go through all the trouble till i have a good design.

I have two train track designs that match with the brown dirt floor whatever thing. One is a straight train track, the other one is a turn. I'm too lazy to play AC right now though. =p
