There have only been 3 series with a focus on mecha stuff that I have been able to stand.
Big O - Enough mystery solving badass suit wearing main character to cancel out the fail of fighting robots.
Eva - Living Robot was close enough to being a character.
G Gundam - So bad/cheesy (awesome) already that it didn't matter that it had the fail of robots on top of it.
Trying to plow through Dragon Ball Z in prep for the first DB season that's coming out. At the big Cell fight. And it's so. Damn. Boring.
I love this show so much, but I can't overlook this. This fight doesn't need to be dragged out this long. Hell, this whole story arc didn't need to be dragged out. It's better told in the manga, at least it has more of a flow there.
I'm probably gonna pick up Gungrave this friday, only because I love the games and have never seen the manga. Also gonna finish up getting Saint Seya.
I was wondering something...
How do you guys diss Eureka Seven.....and continue to show your face here?
Just curious.
I just finished the first half of Eureka Seven. I enjoyed it. I really liked Ray and Charles. Now to see if Eureka Seven has been featured in an SRW yet...
The Gungrave anime is wicked good. Far better than it had any right being.
A quick search tells me Gungrave seems to be more known for the anime than the games it was based on. I never got a chance to own the DVDs when they first came out, so I'm pretty pumped to watch it.

Yeah, I saw that. The most recent one, next to K.
I'd love to play it, but whenever I tried to play any of the other Japanese one, I always got frustrated a few missions in because I only understood a fifth of what was happening. Of course, I'd also have to pull out my PS2 to play it, and that just seems like a hassle. I'm still mad that SRW W had Golion, but not the lions seperately.
Oh well. Back to watching Eureka Seven.
I think after I finish this, I'm going to watch Shadow Star Narutaru.

yeah. Tell me how you like it. One of my favs. (Haven't seen it recently, though. Hope it still lives up to the memory I have of it.)
As for a reason why someone could not like Eureka 7... Oh, how about the terribad characters? Sure, there are some good ones (Dom/Anemone/Ray/Charles), but by the end I had a deep and lasting hatred for most of 'em. I did like it overall, though. Still, those characters... Ugh. >_

Definitely true (although i wouldn't have said "wicked"). Whoever hasn't seen it yet, buy it now.

I just finished the first season also last night, watched 10 episodes in a row. Without spoiling anything, it was really really good, i haven't been this attached to a series since the coincidently also-made-by-Bones FMA. Also, the second OP, amazing.
yeah. Tell me how you like it. One of my favs. (Haven't seen it recently, though. Hope it still lives up to the memory I have of it.)
Anemone right now is my most hated character. Every time she's on screen, she is just screaming and throwing a fit. Really, I find very few of the characters bad. Renton just seems like every other kid main character.
I watched volumes 4-7 last night.
I watched 3-6 (end of the first season seemed like a good cutting off point).
I guess if you really like Ray and Charles, they must get even better later? I like them a lot right now, but i actually like most of the characters. In fact, i can't think of any i particular hate, although
right before Renton gets back onboard the Gekko and meets that strange couple in the forest, that was very strange....
. I like Anemone though, she's mysterious yet cool.
Also, do you like the second OP? It's so great, i hope it doesn't change anytime soon (although i know it will).
Also, the second OP, amazing.
The fourth OP is my favorite, it grows on you.
The reason I liked Eureka Seven so much is that there are believable emotional situations between the characters. One example (note spoiler tag):
Anemone annoyed my initially, but later when you see how medicated/lonely/unneeded she is I started to feel bad for her. At the end when she's about to die and you realize how lonely she was, it's so tragic.. and then she is saved at the moment of her despair. IMO she was a minor character but her story gets the full treatment by the end. They don't even make it blatantly obvious throughout that Dominic likes her, but at the end it all makes sense.
Same with Eureka and her green wings, Ray and Charles and Holland, and several others. This show does it right, oh man
Yeah, the 4th one does grow on you, haha. The second is still probably my favorite though. (I love Home Made Kazoku, if you didn't see my blog about them).
Agreed completely about the characters/emotions. That's why it's so good. Anyone who disagrees has no taste at all. (hehe, just messing w/ ya DarkSage. I still I don't understand you, but that's okay ). But yeah, it's still my all-time favorite show. And it does piss me off when people bash it, haha.
I just finished the main part of Air (12 episodes). It's pretty good. Will post more impressions after I finish everything.
You guys liked those kids? Those snotty little brats? Ugh. I swear, every episode in which they appeared I had to finish off a bottle of liquor by the end or I'd have gone insane.
I once did a character analysis on each and every character that I hated. Damn, I wish I still had it because I can't remember the exact reasons why I hate them... all I have is a deep-seated sense of loathing for each and every one of them. (Excluding the four I mentioned, of course.)
Anemone is a fabulous character. So pathetic, yet so endearing... I guess what I like in a character isn't even close to what you guys like. :X
The fourth opening is my favorite. /me high fives Teh

I'd love to see that if you could find it. Now that you say it, there are times when i actually want to kill the kids (possibly the dub's fault), but they're still a necessity in the show.
Also, how did you not like Nyu?
Just started Afro Samurai: Ressurection and enjoying the characters from the first one with the plot twist. Hopefully it continues that way.
Also I had my Zune on shuffle and the intro song from FLCL came on and want to watch that again.
Sorry, but AS:R was fairly awful. It was definitely beautiful, but the plot was absolutely terrible, and the fighting was jut as it was before.
It's definitely overrated, the main series was decent, but the movie was just bad.
I was annoyed with the kids at first, but I ended up liking them. They're supposed to be annoying, heh--they're kids, after all. (If you have any younger brothers and sisters, and you'll understand completely, haha).
Watched ep. 13 of Air and it was all recap... how disappointing. Overall, I liked the show but didn't absolutely love it or anything. I didn't cry. Well, maybe my eyes were watery, but I didn't straight up cry like I thought I would. It was all a little surreal to me, so I didn't feel extremely emotionally attached to the characters like I have with other shows. I still don't understand a few things...
Such as:
What was the deal with Michuru? Was she even real to begin with? Did she kill herself? She became a feather/vanished? What the hell did it mean?
The story is pretty strange overall. Maybe there's some symbolism that I'm missing that would help it all make sense? Somehow, I'm kinda doubtful, heh. Maybe it's just supposed to be mysterious. I really liked the opening song though. The art is amazing, too. I was never bored when watching (except for the recap episode), so that's also a plus. I've only seen one Asian drama (because it had YUI in it, haha), but it reminded me a lot of something like that, only animated. I'd give it about an 8/10, if I had to rate it.
I found a review of Eureka 7 I wrote... Not the one I was looking for. I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I wrote this, but please forgive the fail. -_- (The other one must have been on that one computer that got wiped out. RAGE)
In terms of the plot, there are few complaints with Eureka Seven. The main story is that of a relationship between two people of quite different backgrounds. A sub-plot of the same concept is also developed through the series. The key word, as may be assumed, is developed. Unlike most anime which have limited time frames and visions, this particular relationship between Anemone and Dominic is well inspired and perfectly integrated throughout.
Still, the anime contains a large amount of fluff. Large portions of the episodes are devoted entirely to developing the relationship between Eureka and Renton. However, it is quite clear that these play a very small part in actual character development, and in terms of the plot, are largely erroneous. Multiple characters are under-used and very rarely developed. Case-in-point, the other female who is like Eureka and her “partner”. For all the build-up towards these two characters, their involvement is unnecessary and bloats up that arc of the story.
When side characters do get their time in the sun, it is a mixed blessing. Occasionally, the story shines with their presence and enhances the theme of love.
As Renton is taken in by Charles and Ray Beams, they brighten up the story while darkening the overall tone. Their inclusions, and subsequent deaths, mark a clear point of excellence in the story.
Yet, the story of Holland and Talho is a large detriment to the series. Allusions to their romantic life are beaten into the viewer at every other point in which there is dialogue involving the two. Instead of strengthening the vision of love through the story, they numb the entire concept with their mediocrity.
The presentation of Eureka Seven is well polished. Average music is shown alongside some good tracks that shift across the language barrier, and can be enjoyed even people who aren’t exactly fans of J-music. Animation throughout the series is a perfect example of what character designers with class can do, at least in terms of body structure - the clothes are quite terrible when the characters switch outfits halfway through the series. Psychological side-trips of Renton and others lend the animators a certain degree of freedom that is taken advantage of, such as when Anemone transforms into a malformed behemoth as she floats through the air.
While I was able to watch the entire series without having to force myself to another episode, I was constantly reminded of the multiple faults in this series. It is truly a shame that this series became overburdened with useless froth, and lacked in focus and clarity for the majority of its duration. Yet, for all these problems, some characters and elements of the plot still shine through and heighten the experience of this anime. Even though it may not be a great series, it is definitely a good one, and assuming you have enough time and can stand minor annoyances, you’ll enjoy it.

This is the one time i'll say this: Go to Razzuel.
He seems to know everything about Air, which scares me a little since i 100% agree with your mini-review (except i did cry xD).
Finished episode 30 of Eureka Seven (vol 7). My opinion hasn't changed, it's still ing amazing. The third OP/ED's aren't too bad either .
Watched Tekkonkinkreet on the big screen outside. The art is definitely out there, but very cool. The story can get a bit boring and stretched out way too much at times, and it feels as if the art and the fact that it's in high def carries it a bit. The music is also very good.
Ive been in a mecha mood lately for some reason. I watched all of Big O, which was decent despite the dub having Steven Jay Blum and a terrible ending. Right now im watching Rahxephon again (up to episode 19). I really do consider this show to be Bones' Eva (and i personally prefer this show to Eva).
I should be finishing Rah tomorrow and then ill start watching Gurren Lagann. This will be my 2nd attempt as I stopped watching the show at episode 5 due to it being "too Gainaxy". Heres hoping I am able to stick it out to the end.
Up to the last 4 episodes of Eureka Seven. The 4th OP is definitely the best.
I watched RahXephon a couple years ago. It was really good. I love Gurren Lagann. Fafner was a good mecha too. I used to dislike Mecha series, but that changed after gaining a love of the SRW games.

That sounds about right, but that's not very nice to only recommend talking to me once.
Also, what do you mean with the "scares" you part?

Tekkon Kinkreet was great. Black and White were such great characters. I didn't have any problems with the story like you did. I thought it was wonderful. You are right though; it is definitely worth owning.

For example: The part where black is fighting for his inner demon seems to stretch out way too much. It could have been done much better and quicker.
Read the manga then. They didn't do nearly as good of a job in the movie (still, the movie rocked; I'm just glad I was lucky enough to have read the manga first ).
"This year's 34th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine will announce next Wednesday that an Inuyasha Kanketsu-hen (Inuyasha Final Chapter) television adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's manga has been green-lit. The anime will broadcast on Japan's YTV this fall and cover the story in volumes 36 to 56 of the manga — the final 21 compiled book volumes. The original staff and cast will reunite for the new anime adaptation."
The main reason i never watched Inuyasha is because it didn't have a real ending. Since i'm obviously not familiar with the series, can anyone tell me what that means? Is the anime finally going to have a real ending, or is there just no real ending?

The manga has a real ending, so yes, this anime will have one as well. I'm really excited by this news, as InuYasha has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Here's hoping Kaoru Wada returns for another amazing soundtrack!

Perfect, now i can actually watch it. Awesome. And the news is getting even better!!
"The August issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Sunday GX magazine will confirm on Saturday that the third Black Lagoon anime project will be an original video anime (OVA) project in 2010. Director Sunao Katabuchi will return from the first two Black Lagoon anime projects, along with character designer Masanori Shino and the Madhouse anime studio. Megumi Toyoguchi will reprise her role as the female pirate Revy. The story revolves around a typical Japanese businessman who gets caught up in the escapades of modern-day pirate mercenaries off the Asian shores."
Oh hell yes, more Black Lagoon is always a good thing .
There's only been one story arc since they went to Japan and had their adventures with the Yakuza. It's been a epic arc involving almost all the characters but it's still only one arc. There's not enough material for another 13 episodes.
I'm really looking forward to seeing it animated. The action can be hard to follow sometimes in the manga.
i'm excited to watch some more black lagoon. after watching the last series my wife and i spent time deciding what ridiculous names we'd have in the black lagoon universe.
sounds like i'm gonna have to get eureka 7 based on the constant chatter.
i've had genshiken queued up for awhile but just haven't gotten around to it. spent all my free time playing through games instead.
Alrighty, so I have recently watched Metropolis and School Days.
Metropolis was really good. The art threw me off at first since it had this kiddie? style to it, but it didn't take long for it to grow on me. It's a great movie about technology and humanity.
About the ending of Metropolis:
The ending scene was pretty amazing; everything was exploding while Ray Charles was singing I Can't Stop Loving You in the background. I loved it. However, it was really sad when Tima fell after the cable broke that Kenichi was pulling on; I mean it was even worse since Tima went back to her normal self.
I thought it was ironic that the villian ended up saving humanity; that was neat.
Also, I read that there is a scene or something after the credits that says "Kenichi and Tima's Robot Company" on a sign, and Tima is sitting in a window or something, implying Kenichi was able to rebuild her. I wish I would of waited for the credits to end; too late now: I already sent it back to Netflix, but it makes me feel better that Tima was rebuilt.
School Days was good. Hmm, I should just probably spoiler tag everything else I am going to say, haha.
School Days spoilers:
The first quarter or so of the show really had me laughing. There were a lot of funny moments. However, the show gradually changed it's tone and became this cluster of Makoto and all the girls tugging on each other's strings. I thought some of that dragged on too much sometimes, but then the last two episodes happen.
Makoto is now ing anyone he lays his eyes on. I thought he was an asshole before, but now he is a super asshole. Katsura lost her sanity at some point during the show, and I thought she might of regained it in the last episode, but nope she is still insane. Sekai is insane too. When I saw her stare at the trashcan I somehow knew her master plan. Then I saw it play out and holy shit was that shocking. She straight up murders him! That blew my mind!
Then, it got even more crazy! Katsura entered super insane mode and cut off Makoto's head and stuffed it in a bag. Then she lured Sekai onto the roof and cut her open proving that Sekai was playing Makoto for a fool with her pregnancy thing. Insane; I don't think I have seen a more shocking/jarring ending.
NO IT WASN'T. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT.
Aww, come on now. Maybe good isn't the right word.
More School Days spoilers in order to explain myself:
At first the show was a funny and playful trainwreck, but as time moved forward it became this depressing/angry trainwreck, which culminated into a blew-my-mind trainwreck. I find something about that interesting.
Alright, good is probably not the right word, but it is definitely not bad. I can compare this sort of feeling to the feeling I got after I watched the Russian movie, Stalker. The movie wasn't bad, but I wouldn't characterize it as good; it's just interesting? I don't know what adjective to use to describe School Days or Stalker. That's why I said good; that was the best word I could come up with, haha.
School Days is one of the worst animes I've ever seen. I'm sorry. You liked it? Wow. Ummm... You know what? I think you're the true otaking. No anime will get you down, no matter how bad it is. The absolute lack of taste that you have could only be described as legendary. You are the one to rule us all.
Razzuel-sama, please command us. We've waited our entire lives for this moment. I lay my sword keyboard at your feet, sire.
Out of curiously I asked about some Gundam 00 Blurays coming here at Otakon as well as what happened with those titles Bandai Visual had before merging back into Bandai. Long story short we're getting squat on both counts, nothing planned for high def gundam even though Japan is swimming in the stuff by now and the Bandai visual titles are sort of stuck where they are for now. On the plus side they gave out free shirts to a girly anime
Hmmm... I guess it takes all types... School Days is indeed one of the worst anime to ever be concocted. Makoto is a flat out shitcock. I don't understand why these kinds of anime are made. Just like Linebarrels of Iron, I couldn't watch more than a few episodes because the protagonist was suck a dickhole.

That sucks, anything else you can tell us about Otakon? I wanted to go, but couldn't.
As for School Days, i knew that you all felt that way, but the first 7 minutes of the first episode weren't too bad.
On the other hand, i had no intention of watching the series, but without that ending, would this show even be important? They probably did it that way just to get people to watch it. I obviously can't comment on it since i haven't seen it, that's just the way it looks to me.
Also, Eureka Seven is truly amazing. I can see why some of you may not like all the characters, but i love just about every one of them, and the show is just amazing all around. The soundtrack, pacing, epicness of it all....not that i needed another reason since FMA is ing great, but i love Bones. Episode 40 right now.

To answer your question in the spoiler, no. It would be
a standard shoujo anime w/ the guy choosing one girl or the other. While refreshing in that it didn't take the usual route, going in the direction it did wasn't a tasteful alternative either. It felt like it was pandering to the guro-loving set (which should've probably been hinted at stronger).
Anyway, looking forward to the 3rd season of Black Lagoon as many others in this thread are but selections seem kinda slim right now for such shows. The only one in recent memory that has themes similar to BL is Canaan. Anyone know of any recent anime like that?
