 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Funi is considering a broadcast dub for One Piece starting with the current Japanese episode and bridging the gap at a faster rate. One can only dream.

it's about the only way I could stand to watch the current one piece anime. At this point I wish they would just go into a 2-3 year filler arc and come back with decent pacing :/ (as I can't see them doing my real hope which would be pulling it off the air and doing 25 eps a year at two chapters per episode instead of one)

That's my problem with the anime as well, and why I stopped watching it years ago. The pacing is terrible, and really became that way since the Enies Lobby arc. Love the manga though!

US Anime is so off and in such a bad place right now. Oda isn't even close to finishing the manga. Said something about it possibly going on for another decade. So many characters and loose ends.

I look forward to One Piece going to Space and sailing the Space Ocean, traveling from planet to planet, place to place, and Luffy becoming the Ultimate Pirate Lord of Space

el oh el xD
I totally knew that. (Jesus, anyone can fool me when I wake up for work)

Also, I feel for the people that watch the One Piece anime. One Piece will drag on until Oda is gone and he probably has a TL;DR end stored in Jump HQ.

One Piece is a lie. The pirate life is really about friendship, dreams, and observing Nami's ever growing anatomy.

Is the future diary worth buying on DVD or should I wait for a bluray release?
Honestly, if you can find it cheap enough, just go for the DVD. It's not like the quality's going to be a huge difference, as the DVDs already look and sound really good. Only way I'd wait is if the new release is coming with the Redial OVA.

there is no way Oda doesn't have a giant file on his computer keeping track of every character who is doing everything and where they are going to go. It's the only way to be able to accurately keep track of so many characters over years. I do think it will only go on for 10-15 more years though as he works himself to death and at some point will have to retire for health reasons. I already have a good idea of how one piece will end anyways, but the journey there and finding out the full truth of the lost century will be fun.

One Piece will end in mirroring to the beginning. Luffy after obtaining the one piece will be about to have his head cut off (likely after getting himself captured because he didn't have much time to live after so much gear third/4th/5th/222nd what ever we are on by the end :p) and talk about his treasure to usher in another new pirate age.

Also Nami might have some things that grow, but others shrink :/ and yet she is constantly in top 5 lists of sexiest anime characters.

Is there a chance of it coming to Blu-ray this year? If so, I'm glad I haven't bought it yet. I'm fully of the mindset that DVDs are dirty, nasty vestiges of the past, and it annoys me when I end up spending money on one because a Blu version doesn't exist. Future Diary is only a few years old, so I'm sure it would be great on Blu--certainly don't have to worry about an SD upscale for a show of its era. Also, HD audio is always miles better--especially if you have surround sound. This is coming from someone very biased against DVDs--as I explained--though, so YMMV based on how you look at things.

Got Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Season 1 in. Not only does the boxset include both the Fortune Cup and Dark Signers arcs (aka the only 2 good arcs), but Volume 2 keeps Aki's cleavage when 4Kids airbrushed it out during the actual series.

That compels me to buy it now. She's easily the most attractive Yu-Gi-Oh! girl. I just wish they would dub the entire series.

Well, the actual video is the same as on TV. It's just the cover that gives the fanservice:

What's kinda funny is the back cover has a shot of Aki with her cleavage edited out but the way it's edited makes one boob look bigger than the other.

My body is ready for this....
A few details were shown for the Knights of Sionia LE set as well from the Q&A earlier today.

  • YES, we will be doing a Collector's Edition of Knights of Sidonia, packed with exclusive content and other goodies. :)
  • YES, it will include the Dub included in the original US run of the series.
  • YES, there will be a 5.1 Japanese audio track in the release. Additionally, we will also have an EXCLUSIVE 5.1 English mix as well. Other language/subtitles options include a Spanish language track as well as Japanese 5.1 with English, Spanish and French subtitles.
  • We have acquired EXCLUSIVE "altrernate angles" for Knights of Sidonia. They could be considered Director's Cuts of all epsiodes.
  • The set will also include Behind the Scenes extras, as well as footage from the KoS creators' Q&A panel in Japan and the Advanced Screening.
  • The Box set will come with extra exclusive art and goodies as well. :)
.

The alternate angle thing seems pretty cool. A bonus to having CG lol

I know this is a little off topic but its kinda related.

So I put my Region 4 Pokemon Chronicles set into my US Ps4 because I was curious if it would play and sure enough it worked.

Sooo is the ps4 dvd player region free or are the Region 4 pokemon sets actually region free?

Despite having "expired" on the 21st, my GoHastings Loyalty Code was still active. Coincidentally, Tales from Earth Sea, Pom Poko, and Porco Rossi were in stock. And for a little under $40, I placed an order.

Honest question:

is Yugioh (the later series) any good?

As a Shonen Jump Alpha subscriber, that's the one series I could never get into;  it just seemed like the same story over and over, where the opponent would pull some new card with some new power, then drama, then another new card with another new power, etc.  It's the only series that I started skipping over whenever it was in the book (well, that and the older series they put in to pad the page count, since I read Death Note and such already).

Glad I never bit on the Mardock Scramble trilogy, this set is pretty cheap for all three. I also expect Knights of Sidonia will be much less attractive than Chunibyou with that price tag though I am glad it is getting a LE.

The sequel series are all made in dependant of the TV series. Since the franchise exists nowadays solely to schill trading cards, that is what the story revolves around. And since they are all monthtly, they need Duels to move the plot forward.

The GX manga was pretty good, though, as it did have a lot of characterization presented very differently from the show.

I wish we knew what was going to be in the Knights of Sidonia CE, as 40% off $100 MSRP is a pretty good preorder price. :whistle2:k

Running times on triology set only 199 minutes. kinda shorter than 3 director cut version ???

It might be the non-director's cuts. Then they'll probably release the director's cut on dvd. Then on Blu-ray.

I fell for this on the original release, so I'm going to wait.

somewhat on-topic/off-topic

this came out today (I lost track of it after I heard it missed it's funding goal)

Sucks for me. Bought the individual Mardock Scramble blurays. And double sucks, because only watched the first one so far and the visual quality was far below what I expect to see on a Bluray (lots of unnatural grain in the blacks), plus for some inexplicable reason there's audio issues on my surround system (only bluray I've ever had an issue with, in this regard). The sound works fine during the pre-menu previews, but as soon as the film starts up it's dead sllent. Plays fine when I transfer to 2 channel stereo though.

If I had known all this in advance, I would have just bought the basic DVDs. I figured this was one worth getting on blu to watch on my HD DLP projector--but this goes to show the bluray fanatics that just because it's blu, doesn't mean it's always better.

So the current Mardock blurays are no good?
Maybe the second and third films are okay, haven't watched them yet. But unless I received one major screw-up of a disc, I wouldn't buy the current version of"The First Compression" director's cut on bluray.

I watched Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods, along with Gundam Unicorn (both bluray), and the visuals and sound were phenomenal on my surround sound/projector set-up. None of my theater settings were changed since then, so either I got a crap disc, which is unlikely, or the first Mardock Scramble film has an iffy transfer. I mean, it's not unwatchable or anything, but I just expect top tier from a brand new anime film.

I don't remember there being any issues with Mardock 1st. But it has been quite a while. The series is weird and not all that great, anyway.

Received my .hack//Sign Complete Series in the mail today, can't wait to watch it again. Used to stay up late at night and watch it on Adult Swim.
