 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Figures and dolls are two very different categories, especially when defined by chuplayer.

This is very clear if you've actually seen any his blogs, as there were plenty of pictures and detailed descriptions that will clearly show you the difference between the two. *shiver down spine*
Knowing how his dolls spent their day and when they went on dates with each other is important information!

Those dolls are freaky. :)

I Googled his name outta interest and I'm afraid what was seen can not be unseen. That being said, to each their own and if he likes that hooby then more power to him. Although he should have know that he would have gotten flak for it. Although if the mods were picking on him then that isn't right.

Odd combation of liking dolls and heavy metal.though. ;)

I've been on this forum for years (mostly lurking) Why am i just finding out about these guys?
Well, chuplayer really only posted blogs. TMK posted mostly in Kingdom Hearts related threads, and in blogs.

I like the Maiko one, but preorders are closed. And it's not in her iconic outfit.

I have the same problem with Hinagiku. She has no good figures where she's in her school uniform.

I think my problem is that I just like secondary/tertiary characters more often.

How are DVDPlanet's shipping methods with larger orders? I have only bought from them twice but both times the packaging came damaged.
How large are we talking about?

For larger orders they generally just ship in a box, but for smaller orders they typically just air seal a plastic bag around it, and called that packaging.

I don't think I've ever gotten a crushed case, but I've gotten a couple of loose discs. But I've gotten loose discs from Rightstuf too, so...

YMMV here, but the local FYE has a bunch of .99 cent anime titles in their clearance section--not the anime section. Found some Lupin III movies like Dead or Alive, Island of Assassins, and Farewell to Nostradamus DVDs for a buck each, along with Mazinkaiser (complete OVA). All were brand new, factory sealed. I spotted a bunch of original Gundam DVDs, a few G-Gundam, and at least one from Gundam 8th MS Team (all single-disc versions), a volume of Karin, and a bunch of others.

I would assume that other FYE's would be tossing some of their older anime DVDs in the .99 clearance section as well, as a push to clear out old inventory. I've checked before, but I've never see this many before, nor were they this cheap. Again, these were not in the anime section, just in the typical clearance area.

So, keep an eye out at your local FYE.

Gundam, Turn A DVD Collection Part 1 (S) is up for preorder, 33.49

DVD only is lame, but I'm still somewhat glad that we're getting it at all. It's also not even dubbed. Honestly, with no Blu release and no dub, this release is only marginally better than the myriad bootlegs that have existed for ages.

The Japanese Blu-ray set is like $500. Did you guys really expect an affordable Blu-ray set?

What's with the cover of Japanese Set 2 anyways...

I certainly don't know the details of the licensing agreement that they worked out with Sunrise/Bandai, so I had no idea what to expect. It seems that most Japanese anime Blu-ray releases are psychotically expensive, and yet we have companies like Sentai and Funi that release them at realistic Western prices, so I was just hoping that would be possible for this, too, but I guess not.

Each license has their own unique clauses. Since Gundam is a huge moneymaking property, it gets special rules.

Of course, no Blu-ray and no dub is not surprising since Nozomi doesn't do either. Sunrise would have to foot the bill for a dub like with Unicorn and Origin. I am actually more disappointed there's no Special Edition with art books and interviews.

That being said, I would not be surprised if we do get a dub for Build Fighters or Reconguista.

I'll definitely be picking up Turn A. I could care less if it's a DVD-only release. I care much more that it's not dubbed, but I wasn't realistically expecting a dub version anyway for a 15-year-old anime series. Unfortunately, while I've been wanting to see Turn A for years, Syd Mead's Gundam design leaves much to be desired. Mead's an absolutely phenomenal artist, no doubt, but the Gundam just looks bizarre.

I'm surprised Gundam ZZ wasn't released first. The bootlegs have very questionable subs at best, and can be incomprehensible at worst.

Ordered Turn A already, can't wait! DVD release doesn't bug me, pretty sure my entire gundam collection including Unicorn is DVD. Would rather pay less for that anyways, blu ray prices for anime can be really stupid.

Yeah, I have a huge collection of anime on Blu-ray, and about 95% of it was very reasonably priced--and bought on sale! lol. Hell, Blu-ray versions are even less sometimes--depending on the sale.

Maybe dub-only releases, or when they change too much, like River not being in the Gundam Seed remasters. Ugh.

Did anyone else get the "bleach" blind boxes for free from the Viz store a long time ago?

I think we only had to pay shipping for them.

I still have them somewhere.

I've always bought those Blind Boxes every time I ordered something from RS.

I've done this for two reasons:  Reached the $50 minimum for free shipping AND to see what mystery item(s) arrive since there's so much anime I haven't seen.

The $1 ones usually sucked. In fact, once I got the same shojo DVD two years in a row (The name escapes me but I've posted about it before). This year I got an anime called Armitage: Dual Matrix. I haven't watched it yet but I'm thinking it's not good.

The $5 ones are better. One year I got a Voltron DVD set. This year I got manga in the form of .hack//cell volume 2.

I haven't ordered any of the other levels. I plan on getting the DBZ Blu Rays this year so I'll probably do it again; I also subscribed to Got Anime so I'll do well enough that the $10 Blind Box will basically be free.

I still haven't gotten around to watching Dual Matrix (so I can't comment on the quality of that movie), but Armitage III: Poly Matrix is a fucking classic as far as I'm concerned.

I don't see why that's a surprise considering how popular it is over there and here. Even though I can't stand harems and pointless fanservice shows, I do like Monster Musume. If you get past the eye-rolling moments it actually has a good sense of humor. Then you got the racial themes it touches, which gives like more too than most harems. Also the main character not being the usual spineless loser like every other harem is a big plus.
