 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Movies-TV-Anime/zgbs/movies-tv/2959100011/ref=zg_bs_nav_mov_2_2958934011 (DVD)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Sigh, the Psycho-Pass Premium Edition Artbox replacement has a new issue. It appears to be a tad short in height. Making it difficult to put in and take out the blu-ray cases.

@Vash1306 :/ Please mention to @funimation. I doubt they will do another run, unfortunately. :( ^TR

They shouldn't be too short. If you take out the business card holder then it should all fit.

Since FUNimation doesn't charge tax, I just went ahead and pre-ordered Seasons 4 and 5. Picked up Lost Girl Season 1 to get free shipping.

Well I guess am lucky since my original box of Pyscho Pass isn't really lopsided. The replacement box might as well just throw out since it's just ridiculous to get the cases out.

Damn, I'll have to watch and see if Amazon will match Funi since I can't find anything that I don't own/want to own to get me over the $50 mark for free shipping.

Cmon Amazon!

Everyone submit this price to Amazon and hope they price match!

ooo nice! I hope Amazon price matches. Ill go browsing around Funi.com though to see if I can reach $50. Do they charge now or when it ships?

lololololol I am never going to end up getting my Psycho-Pass Premium Edition aren't I? xD

The biggest issue people have is that they are widescreen, which is mainly because non-diehards chose widescreen over fullscreen.

I also don't see a re-release happening unless Toei actually allows FUNi to release Blu-ray versions of the Dragon Boxes, which is highly doubtful.

It has both the broadcast TV music and the Japanese music for the dub, though I don't know if the vocal songs will be on the English dub.

They really fudged up with this release. I have no regrets on getting the cheaper standard editions now. I never knew it was that hard to make a box.

This is the type of stuff that happens when you outsource to Mexico like they do. Hell the box is no different from the other "limited" editions they had.

The majority of their other LEs (and even standard editions) were also made in Mexico, and there weren't any huge issues with those, so I'm still sticking with the fact it's just a crappy design flaw on their part for this particular LE.

Can't bail them out on this one just because it was "Made in Mexico". ;D

Just so you know, Adult swim is not cartoon network. They have been two separate networks since 2004, or so.
Funny. I always hear it announced as "Cartoon Network's Adult Swim".

Well, Adult Swim aired Evangelion and Deadman Wonderland with minimal edits.
All those curse words get by on Black Lagoon, yet Deadman Wonderland was full of beeps. I remember a Yu Yu Hakusho commercial where they bleeped "ass".

If all the season sets were out for those Blu Rays, I would be all over this. Besides wanting the series on Blu Ray, I'm getting them for the extra features with the voice actors. Special features on DBZ discs are rare.

Not trying to since they screwed up on getting the proper measurements for the replacement boxes which baffles me that they could mess on something as simple as that.

It was done mainly for ratings/advertisers purposes, but they are technically separate networks. Watch the bumps and promos carefully and everything is "[adult swim]" by itself with no mention of its parent channel. Even the DVDs and Blu-rays only have CN at the bottom with the copyright info.

My Robotics;Notes from Walmart came in. First thing I noticed? No blue bar on the slipcover.

Hopefully this is the start of a trend for FUNimation.

Yeah, I'm at work until 1 AM (thankfully that shift ends after Saturday) but I saw they must of gotten quicker shipping on my Robotic;Notes order as my copy is hitting sometime today. It didn't feel like it but apparently I ordered it at the end of January and as with everyone else, my copy was shipped yesterday.

To those that have ordered from the Funimation shop. How is there packaging like? For a single blu-ray item, do they stuff it in a bubble envelope? Or use those cardboard fold outs like Rightstuf?

Also do they ship their product early like Rightstuf does?

I'm curious about this as well, and if they are reliable as this would be my first time ordering from them.

I've only ordered from them once, and I can't remember what they sent my items in packaging wise. All I know is my anime arrived in fine shape around a week or so after I ordered it (I got oh edo rocket and corpse princess when they were on sale for $10 per part a long time ago)

I was looking around Funimation's shop for some filler to maybe add so I could get free shipping on the Season 4 and Season 5 DBZ Blu-ray's and noticed that a few things were on sale. I'm not sure how these prices stack up historically but I figured I'd post a few that caught my eye.

Strike Witches Season 1 S.A.V.E. Blu-ray $13.74

These are the cheapest on Funimation atm since they are part of their "Deals" selection, so the prices are pretty good.

The Blu-ray sets listed are all supposed to be Blu/DVD sets, but for some reason it doesn't specify that on the Season 1 listing title, but it is in the details format at the bottom.

You would think they would have that listed in the title for their own site, but ya, they didn't, so just be aware.

I may just end up ordering it from the site and paying shipping since I can't seem to find anything to add that I don't already own/or for a good price, which is still a pretty good deal since it doesn't appear Amazon is going to match it.

The response to the price match I got from Amazon was that I should try to use my wishlist to check on items that are out of stock so I'll know when they come back in stock. Yeah, that was helpful. @_@

Well I went ahead and added both Strike Witches seasons to get free shipping on the DBZ's so I'll know soon enough whether or not they include the DVDs. lol

Anyone here recommend getting fist of the north star complete tv series for $80.xx at rightstuf.com? I know if I buy it'll most likely wind up on the shelf and collect dust for awhile before I get to it and start watching it.

Thats about what $20 bucks per set if comparing the 4 split sets they previous release. Maybe it's just me but I find that Discotek & Eastern Star stuff rarely go on sale. I've been waiting a couple of years now on trying to get that last set for or under $30. But it's the final arc which isn't the best in terms of quality anyway, so I'm in no hurry.

I say if your a fan, then yes. It's going to sit on your shelf for collecting dust when your watching it anyway, 21 discs is a long long marathon. Just looked at some pics of it on Amazon, that case is huge.

Wow, that was quick; received my shipment from Funimation yesterday evening after ordering it the morning prior. I guess that's one benefit of living on the other side of town from Funimation. lol

So I figure I'd clarify a few things since Amazon isn't going to price match the Funimation sale. 1) Items ship as they are available. So, in my order, I had two preorders (DBZ Seasons 4 & 5) and two items that were already available. The available items shipped, and the remaining preorders will ship once they receive them. 2) Despite only being 2 Blu-rays to be shipped, they packaged them in a nicely padded box. This is a welcome change of pace compared to Amazon, who seem hell-bent on shipping everything in an envelope that'll look battle-worn by the time it arrives in my mailbox. 3) Yes, those Strike Witches seasons are Blu-ray & DVD even though their pages don't really clarify. Yay value!

All in all, a surprisingly good experience from Funimation's store. This thread has helped get me back into buying anime so I wanted to give my contribution, even if it's only an anecdote!

Also, I may bite on that Fist of the North Star collection. I've always wanted to do a marathon re-watch of it. I hope the video quality is good enough. Still have flashbacks of the Galaxy Express 999 DVD release. @_@

If Amazon hadn't price matched by now they wouldn't do it anyways, so not surprised.

Good to know about the way they pack their items though, so that's good.

And on those SAVE sets I was actually noting it to people that they don't have to be afraid that they don't come with it because I knew for a fact that they do, so was trying to make sure people knew what they were getting even though their own website wasn't very clear about it. ;D

Glad to hear you're happy with your Funi purchase though.

Got PsychoPass in and the box isn't as bad as I was led to believe. Sure, the cases are a bit snug, but nowhere near the catastrophe everybody made it look like.

I still have to shake the case, but not that much more than any of my Power Rangers sets or most of my thinpak sets.

I will say that the keychain holder is nicer than the actual keychain itself.

did they charge you right away for your preorders? Couldn't find the info on the funi site.

There's still a pending authorization on my card for the entire order, so I am just assuming they charge right away for preorders since they weren't specifically separated out from the rest of the order.
