 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

When you guys hit up anime cons do you buy anything there? I'm heading to ACEN next weekend and i might have a decent sized check to spend. Granted the prices are probably better online anyway.
I have never bought any anime from a con because almost everything is retail and I ain't paying retail when amazon could have it for half off.

I feel the same way for the most part. I've bought a couple at a con though, but that was only for OOP premium NISA sets. So if you're looking for something OOP or that's hard to find I'd go for that but very rarely do you see anything for much cheaper than MSRP.

My con purchases are typically figures and manga. For some reason I've found a lot of manga at bargain bin prices at cons.

It really depends on your experience with cons. My first one was Otakon 2009 and I bought a few things then when I stayed the whole weekend the next year, I bought a TON of things. As the years went on, I began to buy less & less then eventually nothing. I think with me being more careful with my finances and me gradually becoming more of a cheapass, I just stopped buying stuff at cons because 90% of the time, anything you buy at a con can be found online for cheaper. Your smartphone is your friend. :)

My personal protip is to scout out for items you want then you can research it online, perhaps find the same item for cheaper at another booth and if it's the last day you can try your bartering skills to try and get a deal. The worst a dealer can say is no.

JJBA Season 1 listed for August release by Warner Bros. Looks like DVD only

I pre-ordered just to support it. I pray for a dub similar to the quality we got last year from CR but I think we all know it will be a barebones release.

Yes but only bc it makes me feel sad if i don't

but honestly NO, they usually mark up all the prices (i mean higher than bestbuy-walmart), the best deals are usually Sun imho anyway bc they try to quickly move remaining stuff, quote un-quote 60% off and bogo type sales. Also if there is an actuall company there like Sentai then the prices are ok as well.

It depends on what you get and who you get it from. The licensing companies themselves usually have all their stuff at MSRP, with maybe a bundle deal or bonus prize for buying new stuff. Places like Anime Pavilion will have bundle deals or sometimes 20% off.

If you are going for DVDs/Blu-rays, search out bargain tables. Everything else will be retail. But if you are searching for model kits or figures, prices will largely be the same.

I haven't been to an anime convention, but at SDCC last year, Seven Seas had like 50% off manga on their last day. That's why I picked up Monster Musume, Arpeggio, and some other titles.

Not bad. Speaking of cons, I think I'm going to skip out on Otakon this year. I was going every year but the last two years were just bad experiences for me. I'm going to wait until they move to DC as the Baltimore Convention Center has outgrown Otakon. I only got through the registration line madness last year because I helped my friend at the artist alley.

Eh, they could do like they did with Animaniacs, and Pinky and the brain and release 3/4 of the series, then wait 6 years to release the last quarter (and then another year after that to release the movie) on dvd

But yeah, I'm totally with you on Drew Carey Show. That's one of my favorites from the 90's and it sucks they only released one season of it.
From season 4 onward they were only released (several years after 3) as manufacture on demand dvds. They basically found video tape masters and ripped them straight to disc without any of the usual restorarion work.

Warner Bros? Crap.

Enjoy your one and only one volume of JoJo. Take it from a guy who bought Night Court, Space Ghost C2C, Silverhawks, Welcome Back Kotter, The Drew Carey Show ...
Who knows what will happen with it. Viz has used Warner Bros for years and a lot of jump anime on the big screen have been from them too (DBZ Battle of Gods and the Gintama Movies to name a few). If the demand for Jojo is high, they will make more.

(And I know the feeling of buying incomplete anime - I bought D.Gray-Man)

This has been going for a day or two I think but a lot of Studio Ghibli Blu Rays are $20-25 on Amazon. Little high but since these are Disney owned, $20 is actually good for most of these.

What everyone else said. Plus, if you're looking at figures, don't bother. Everything gets marked up crazy high it's cheaper to import from Japan. Also watch out for bootlegs. They're everywhere. Use mfc to check if bootlegs for the figure exists and its going price online.

There are some exceptions though. If GSC is running a booth, they'll have wonfes exclusives for sale which was pretty cool. It's been awhile since I've gone to a con so I don't know if they're still doing it.

I remember going to numerous horror/sci-fi conventions in the '90s and early 2000s and they would have figures, DVDs, model kits all marked down in price, labeling them as 'Convention Specials'--and they genuinely had some great deals. Plus, half of these dealers didn't want to lug all the merchandise back with them, so come the last day of the con they'd have some really nice prices. Anime cons on the other hand are absolutely terrible when it comes to pricing on merchandise--not only that, so many of the dealers I've seen at anime cons seem so disgusted to be there peddling their overpriced stuff. Complete opposite of all the horror cons I've been too.

Pretty much this. Anything I see that I could possibly want ends up being way cheaper online.

Also one of the sellers was charging an arbitrary amount for tax to everyone. She'd add on a few dollars when you went to pay and say it's for tax.

Like I said before, it also depends on who you purchase from. I usually get my Gundam models from Blufin's booth and their prices, though rounded up to be even, are mostly the same as on their website. Anime Pavilion charges MSRP with certain deals (usually 20% off video, Buy X Get 1 Free for manga) attached. Haven't bought figures in years there, but the last one I bought was cheaper than Amazon.

After mastering the use of Japanese shop sites, proxies, and forwarding services, I only buy rare stuff, exclusives, or stuff directly from game publishers/figure manufactures at conventions. Sometimes I'll buy gunpla but most of the time I can get it cheaper from Japan. The only anime distributor ill buy from is Media Blasters, but its they hook me up with deals. You can get some good deals at anime shop booths too if they forget to update their prices on their rare stuff.

Do people sell "cels" at conventions? I'm just curious how they are priced. If anyone sees some sub $20 Outlaw Star cels, lmk.
They do. I've seen them vary from $10 to $120. Depends on what it is.

Right Stuf has the JJBA Season 1 DVD listing up. Covers Episode 1-26 (All of Part 1 and Part 2). Dvd only and Sub only. The price is $39.99

This release seems to be getting various reactions from different people. Personally I don't need this to be dubbed, I already enjoy it the way it is. And even if a dub option was present I would check it out but would most likely stick with the original version. People seem to tie a dub to the cost to justify the price. many anime distributors are making releases like this to lower production costs; this options is often the only way some anime get released in the first place.

This is probably why it's not a Bluray release as well - cheaper. I'm still up for it. I've bought other barebones releases for the same price if not more and I love jojo. I wish it was bluray but oh well. The only possible deal breaker is if they get rid of the EDs and stuff like that. Warner bros. produced the show since they are also the licenser and distributor the chances of them being able to keep the songs is much higher than that over say, Viz, I think. But I'm no expert.

Just as a note about conventions from my experiences. All above is right on except for a couple of deals I have managed to score. It seems that the booth runners have some more leeway in pricing than they let on. I am a fan of Tekkaman from back in the day and a few years back I got volumes 1 and 2 for 15.00 new. Because I chated with the guy about older anime. This was back in 2009 and I think they were like 20-25 by them selves at the time. YMMV but at conventions I always ask if they go lower, never hurts.

Is $33.99 a decent deal for Sekirei: Complete Series? This is for both seasons. I know there were some deals for the individual, separate seasons in the past, but unsure if the entire series has ever been this low before. It's currently up on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sekirei-Complete-Blu-ray-DVD-Combo/dp/B00BCPOEI6/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1431289920&sr=1-1&keywords=sekirei
If I recall correctly this specific set had been $27.49 not long after the initial release, and it stayed that price for a fairly long time, but it's gone up by quite a bit now.

I hope you held them to the price tag, if you mention it, most places will honor it, if they put it up early.
It's Fry's. They're shady as fuck as it is. Already took forever because one of the two PSN cards I brought up wouldn't activate. Then they pull this, and I was like screw it, didn't want to wait for it. When they price adjust, you have to like take it to customer service, which is another in another part of the store. Then take it back to the cashier. It's a pain in the ass so I just didn't buy it.

Speaking of conventions, most of the stuff I buy is from artist alley. Dvds/blu-rays always seem overpriced from my experiences. I've seen some decent deals on figures. Some vendors do overprice things though. Its always a good idea to do research before buying. You can find great deals on manga. I purchased vol 1 through 20 of Nana for just $60 at a local con yesterday.

Side note: Met Steve Blum and Phil Lamarr at convention past weekend. They're pretty cool guys.

Thanks for all the tips. Been to ACEN for many years and have scored some decent deals. Since now everyone has a smart phone makes it abit easier for price checks and better deals on Amazon. Hope to score some good deals if not always can try haggling on Sunday for a lower price.

Warner confirmed that they are doing a Dub for JJBA S1.

No word on Blurays yet though

If Warner follows the pattern with their own cartoons, the DVDs will be a testing ground to see if there is a demand, then Blu-rays will be MOD, then wide release if demand is high.

I guess i'll buy the DVD to show there's demand then pray they bring the BDs over.

Otherwise the JP BDs have English subs, so I may do that if everything is quiet on that front for a year.

I went cheap and oddly enough they were cheaper to buy separate because of shipping. I'll let you know what condition usps gets them to me.
arrived today total ship time was 12 days came in a cardboard box with the bluray set wrapped in bubble wrap, wrapped in bubble wrap then wrapped in bubble wrap lol.

From the looks of it, SE has acknowledged/working on the music problem but hasn't commented on the RNG problem yet. Hopefully if they do end up patching it, they fix both.
