 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/movies-tv/2959127011/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_mov_1_3_last   (Blu Ray)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Possibly, but Macross > Robotech, and we still haven't gotten proper releases of Macross. (and possibly never will) Bloody licensing. I enjoy both series, it would just be nice to have greater access to the original Macross.
I was just reading this yesterday. The license for Robotech expires in 2021. So theoretically speaking, we could see the original Macross/Mospeda/Southern Cross get released (but then Robotech will be lost in licensing abyss).

I liked Gundam Wing and War in the Pocket.

It's doubtful my beloved "nice girl turns comically angry" character archetype is successful very often when duct taped to a giant robot anime. But if Full Metal Panic Fumoffu is any indication of the idea's potential (what with its awesomely silly piloted armor)...

Nice to see so many of you guys liked 0080. I've watched a lot of Gundam since Wing started me off but my favorite will always be War in the Pocket. Can't wait for the Blu-rays to come out here. Got a sneak peek of them when I was in Japan recently and I was very tempted to buy.

Wing didn't really hold up for me watching it for like the fifth time a few years back but I still want to own it on Blu. (I used to write episode summaries which forced me to watch the episodes at least three times.) My second favorite Gundam series is Seed... I just hope that holds up a little better than Wing as it's been well over a decade since I rewatched.

Can anyone tell me just how low the Gundam Blu-rays go when on sale? I'm not interested in the Gundam Wing box set purely because it looks like it'll take up a ton of room and just want to get the singles. I find it kind of absurd that the MSRP for Endless Waltz is over $35. Figured a movie release should be around $25 at most.
During the 2016 Rightstuf Winter Sale blu-ray releases such as the original series, ZZ, or Build Fighters collections were as low as $37.49 and $29.99 for their dvd counterpart. Some of the dvd only releases like After War Gundam X were as low as $24.99.

All Robot anime sucks. Such a stupid concept in the first place.
Those are fighting words. :boxing: Although, aren't you a fan of Knights of Sidonia?

Lol, I know - I just wanted to liven up the conversation more, which was already getting a little argumentative... ;)

And yes, even though I really dislike Giant Robot mecha, there are mecha series I do like because of the story, in spite of the mech - Sidonia, Aldnoah-Zero, Kuromukuro, Escaflowne, Appleseed, Gargantia, Flag, and some of the newer Gundam series like IBO, Thunderbolt, and Origin. If the series is mainly a serious drama and not cartoony or childish, I can usually let the mecha stuff slide. BUT, I would love these series even more if they didn't have the giant mech in them at all... I just have to cringe and bear with it during those scenes.

0080 was okay, but 0083 is the only Gundam I've liked. Since then, I can't get into any other Gundam series. Seed? Iron Blooded Orphans? So boring to me.

Other robot anime I've liked: The Big O, Dai-Guard, Astroboy.

And an honorable mention to Megas XLR.

Feel like I'm missing something here.

Yeaaaah, sorry, but those are two prime examples of the mecha anime I detest the absolute most - not only are they cartoony and childish, but you have multiple big robots ridiculously joining together to form a giant robot with OVER 9000 power level! Whoo! If I was 5 or 6 years old I might like something like that, but even then I doubt it, lol. I outgrew that kind of stuff 50 years ago... I always hated Transformers and Power Rangers, too - just more of that same combining-robot garbage. :bomb:

Power Rangers is more likable to me than Transformers. For a variety of reasons.

While I doubt I've seen enough "traditional" combining-robot anime to judge them, it doesn't sound very appealing. Robots who take damage and need maintenance, and their imperfect pilots, are key to the best mecha anime.

I don't necessarily have anything against giant robot anime, but similar to Girls with Guns, I only really watch them if the story is worthwhile. That being said, my favorite Gundam by far is 00. It's not attached to the "traditional" Gundam universe and I thought they did a good job of making each character have their own depth, which made the overall story much better. Also that that recent one...RE:0096 UC or whatever was surprisingly good as well. IBO was ok, but not as good as 00. Origins was also fun to watch. BTW - the english voice acting in that shining finger video? Absolutely horrific....it's what I fear from English dubs and why I tend to stay away from them.

Sentai is having a sale which includes 70% off all DVD's. Ends tonight at 11:59 p.m. CST:

https://shop.sentaifilmworks.com/collections/fall-blowout-sale-2017

And what's this? Spend $299 and get a free Blu Ray player?? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Yep, just got my $119.92 order placed here in the final minutes of the sale. Ended up ordering:

$14.99 - Atelier Escha & Logy: ~Alchemists of the Dusk Sky~ Complete Collection
$14.99 - CLAMP School Detectives Complete Collection
$17.99 - Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei! Complete Collection
$17.99 - Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei! Herz! Complete Collection
$ 8.99 - Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works
$14.99 - Phantasy Star Online 2: The Animation Complete Collection
$14.99 - Sabagebu! Survival Game Club Complete Collection
$14.99 - Sakura Trick Complete Collection

Kinda wanted to get the four Godzilla movies they have in stock too, but financially it came down to either the four of them or missing out on something else from that list.

Have seen "Sakura Trick" compared to "Strawberry Panic!", and the price was right. "Sabagebul" Has a interesting description so figured I'd give it a try as well. Already have season one of Fate/Kaleid, would be just my luck for Sentai to re-release all three seasons together on the cheap next year. Atleir, just because I have the Vita game. PSO2 As I regard myself to be a huge PSO franchise fan... and Crunchy Roll kept crashing whenever I tried watching it through their streaming service. And Clamp School Detectives, because you can't go wrong with a Clamp studio title, and this one had been on my "wants" list to own for several years.

I'm pretty sure it's not legit. The eBay seller's feedback has a number of "fake" claims already. But, hey, there's always a chance it's on the level...
I just received it today after a small shipping problem from the seller. How do I tell if it's "fake"? It looks pretty legit with slipcover and everything.

is gotanime worth it with the increased cost o_O? The discounts from their studio sales don't seem as good as before... and I miss my monthly coupons. Although there's their christmas sale...

If you buy things regularly on preorder, it's worth it. Otherwise, it's tough to get enough savings to justify the cost.

I'm normally the first to say yes, but my preorders have dropped off significantly so I let mine expire.

Their last Christmas sale sucked
Have placed orders with them during their Christmas sale every year since 2008, but not during the 2016 sale... just wasn't that great. On the flip side, I had less than a hundred bucks I could've spent during the sale anyway, so it worked out in my favor that the sale wasn't great.

it was terrible. Their random Sentai Sale was a lot better
And even then, the Sentai sale on Sentai's own web store was much better than that even, and the orders were fulfilled by RightStuf. <sigh>

So I got my Outlaw Star :br:  today.  Of course Amazon sends it in a bubble mailer, so the slipcover's a bit squished at the corners.  :wall:

Add me to the list of people who don't get anything damaged. Amazon, RightStuf, DeepDiscount, The Z-Store.

Yeah, that's right. I've ordered from The Z-Store:

Dub clip of A Silent Voice.

Shoko is voiced by a deaf person and I think that is amazing. Almost teared up hearing Shoko speak. Can't wait to watch the movie again with the dub.

Highly impressed. I can’t wait to see it again. I got the limited edition on Blu-Ray, which is how I found out about region code, so now I can’t wait for this one.

Is this only a movie or is there a series behind it? That clip was pretty damn amazing.
