This is really starting to get on my nerves....... Even if I park as a far away as I can from the main entrance and other cars... some fat bonehead always parks there cheapass car next to mine and what do I see? a dent where there door hit my side because there were so fat they needed to extend there door all the way to get out. Its like they see my car as protection or something and they need to park close to mine. One time last year I parked away from everyone else while waiting for my back then GF to get off work then this fucken redneck pulls up with his piece of shit redneck truck, looks pissed throws his door wide open, dents my side and goes into target..all this while IM IN THE DAMN CAR!! ...so what did i do?
i fucken used my pen, AKA my car key to etch "fuck YOU DAMN REDNECK!" on to his side. then moved my car out of there before he came back.

So lets hear it, who else here has dents from other idiots who don't realize your car is next to theres until they open the door.

updated with pics..hmm you can't see much through the camera even though its 5mp... yea my car needs a wash badly. enjoy and feel free to post you pics of dings and dents, but not smash ups.

LOL

nice, very nice :D

but yea, of course you get mad when it happens...and yes, it has happened to me before...it sucks...i also got a dent in my trunk before out of nowhere...i was pissed that i didnt see who did it :/

Dings and dents are inevitable, trust me, no matter how hard you try, your gonna eventually get them. But you can certainly minimize having them by parking smartly. These are the things that I keep a note of when I park my car:

1.) Try to park in a corner, where only one car can park on either side.

2.) Try to park your car next to a nicer car.

3.) Avoid parking next to two door coupes as there doors are longer.

There was this one time when I was BB, I was leaving when I got into my car this hill billie in a chrysler convertible zooms in the parking spot next to me and has no depth perception whats so ever. There just happens to be a shopping cart there, so he rams the shopping cart into the car in front of him, then it slowly turns a 180 and rams the car in front of me then it slowly love tapped my front bumper. I was pissed, and the jack arse just gets out and goes into BB. People these days just don't have respect for other peoples property.

does anyone else have a crown molding on their car door to help prevent some dings? I think it's helped my Mustang avoid a few dents here and there.

always park FAR AWAY from the cart depot.. if there are carts in the parking lot and its a windy day, get ready for them to become rouge and dent cars like crazy. When i was with my ex and we would sit and talk in the parking lots we would see these things go at full force into people's cars.. damn the wind can make them into deadly objects :p

Heck i've been dinged somehow in the lower part of my door...almost like a midget came out of his car and hit it with his door :whistle2:O

QFT!

I drive a nice car. Acura TL. I go out of my way to "park safe" and I still end up getting dings on it. I once went to a store, parked WAAAAAAAAY out in the lot (about 30 rows deep). I came back and found some fucking trash car sitting next to mine, so close that you know they had to hit my car when they opened the door.

motherfuckers.

I woke up one morning (really afternoon, I was way drunk the night before) to find that my car was hit sometime during the night by a SUV or truck. It nailed the side of my car where the door handle was. Long story short, I couldn't open the back driver side door anymore. I called the cops and there was nothing they could do.

So yeah, I do get mad when shit like that happens!

Target has parking lot cams so a fight would defently bring the cops around, plus I don't think my gf would have loved to walk out of work seeing her bf getting into a fight.

No use in fighting over it, but you could have told him he needs to reimburse you for it.

yea like thats going to happen.. do you think anyone is going to bother paying you if you caught them dinging your car?

Now if the redneck made a huge ass dent that can be seen from a mile away, ok his ass is mine in court.

Yeah, It probably wasn't worth a confrontation at all. Funny that someone could be so brazen as to smack the side of someones car while they are inside of it, though!

Vin # + License plate is all you need. Let their insurance handle it. If that doesn't work I always have an "emergency kit" in the trunk that consists of a hammer and a few nails, and no they are not for the tires :D.

LOL i love that hammer and nails idea but gotta remember, most of these dings occur in crowded shopping lots, and most of the times you know the store has parking lot cameras watching. Don't always assume that no one is watching because there will always be some fool with a cell phone calling the police telling them what you are doing and what you look like and if they are lucky snap a shot of your tags with there camera phone.
This only seems to happen in mall parking lots. Why is that?
nah this happens at my work too. a fellow co worker didn't hang on to her door during a windy day then BAM the wind blew her door and it hit my side :( Shes cool with me so I didn't have the nerve to scream at her.

I hate those fuckers that do that shit.

In my parking lot at my apartment I went to my car to find a white streak/dent in my door. Of course it was the only white vehicle in the parking lot, a white van that had parked next to me that night. So I kindly wrote a note that says, "Next time you leave a dent and a white mark on my car I would appreciate, at the very least, an apology note."

And kind of similar, I parked on the city street parking once, and when I came back out from working out there was a car that was literally 3 inches from my back bumper and 3 inches from the front bumper of the car behind him. I took pictures of it all and called my insurance company to give them his license and stuff. There is no way he could have parked there without hitting both my car and the car behind him.
Wait, you just let the guy walk off after you saw he whacked your car?
Well for one thing, I was in disbelief on how much of a moron he was! by the time the cart came to hit my car he was already gone. I went to look to see if there was anything on my bumper, luckily there wasn't or else I would have royally
fucked his car.

I was waiting in my dads work van once and this cart-pusher was talking to a girl. He then starts walking to her car and a cart in the way. He then kicks the cart into my dads work van. I rolled down the window and he saw someone was in the truck and freaked out. He was apologizing for a minute, and asking if it was okay. My dad didn't care cause it was a work truck and the company would think it was just from driving on construction sites where he worked. I was like its fine but you need to watch what your doing.

why the fuck do people park that close to your bumpers? If i need to get close i use my headlights as a good indicator how close I am to there bumper.. seems to work nicely.

also have you noticed that whenever your with your gf having a conversation, some prick will swing by and PARK right next to you and then sit in the car for no apparent reason. Then the worse if they ding your car while getting out that it momentarly rocks your car :whistle2:O

Around here, they're more likely to just steal the car than dent it. Though there are an unusually high amount of drivers on the road with dented cars from accidents or whatever else, so I'm there are plenty of bad drivers out there, as well. Luckily, I've been able to keep my car dent-free for the two years I've been here and I hope it stays that way.

trust me my friend, there isn't a single car out there i've seen that DOESN'T have a dent or a ding somewhere. I'm going to fire up my camera tomorrow and take some pictures of my dings and post it then.

its worse when you get those wierd white smear/scratches , can't rub those off :whistle2:(

Well, I'd take down his license plate info and make sure that I get a quick pic of the damage (both cars). If the asshole is around, I'll ask him to fork out his insurance so I can make a claim. If he refuses, call the cops, get someone to come and make a report, then report it to your insurance company as a hit and run....or parking damage. You can provide the plate number, so let them track it down. Your case is even better if you have a police report.

Worst case, nothing happens and you are out a couple of calls. Best case you get some money out of the deal. Middle of the road, the assholes insurance goes up.

Its a lot of work and I would only consider it if I was in a really bad mood or the damage was significant. Its not worth it for a ding, but I did consider it for this:

One time, this old lady love tapped the front of my car pulling in to a parking spot. I jumped out of the car, checked for damage and read her the riot act. Threatened to call the cops and everything. Didn't waste the time, since my car wasn't hurt, but I'm sitting there thinking "this stupid bitch is going to hit my car and blow my fucking airbag". Damn good thing it didn't.

the day I catch some fucken idiot park denting my car while trying to pull into the drive way, im going to shoot them. Too bad my camera phone sucks (takes 2-3 seconds to initialize to camera mode) and my memory sucks or else I would get there plates.

Actually if you get their license and all and they drive away without exchanging info after being made aware that they damaged your car, they might get arrested. It could be considered leaving the scene of an accident which is a felony here.

im more concerned about getting arrested myself by FCPS for calling them for someone dinging my car..now if they smashed something up, fuck Yea, hit and run, im gonna call them, not without hoping into MY CAR and chase the fucker down.

Im sure thats happened, chasing your hit and run, while calling the cops to tell them your chasing the fucker.

I suppose the camera cannot take down OP's name, nor can they clearly identify him. But the cops can do both, while he's in handcuffs.

I think another annoying dents are those from parallel park where the car in front or in back of you bumped into your bumpers and leave 2 screw marks from their license plates. My dad's van and my sister's car got those.

another thing is that target cares more about whats happening INSIDE there store then whats happening outside there store. This happened last July and here I am , not busted :p.. I avoid parallel parking at ALL COST. Sure I was an ass for writing that shit on his truck, but he was a bigger ass for parking right next to me when I was away from everyone else, threw his door wide open, banging my car and mometarly shaking it then walking off pissed into target.

Everytime I see it its usually one small car stuck between two big cars/trucks or vice versa. I usually like to keep about a foot or better away from the other cars IF I am forced to Parallel Park. Doesn't make sense to leave less than a foot on either side for the other drivers because they will probibly figure out a way to get out anyways but not before causing some type of damage to your car. Just avoid Parallel Parking if you can, but if your lucky get either the front end space or the back end space and you should be ok.

My strategy (when my car was shiny and new) was usually to go ahead and park between two cars. I'd just make sure neither are a 2 door model, and even better park between 2 nice cars. At a workplace 95% of the time it's just going to be one person getting in the car so you only have to worry about the car with a driver's side door opening towards you. At a mall or restaurant probably most cars will have more than one person so both sides count.

Although my car is now getting kind of old and is dinged up enough that I really don't sweat where I park much. I do still try to stay away from 2 door cars unless open spots are sparse.

got to remember, just because you park not next to a non 2 door car, doesn't mean that the same car WILL be there when you get back from where ever you came from. That usually happens 90% of the time where I park...usually the new car that replaced the old car parks so close to my door, they are just TOO lazy to re position there car. If i come in too close to someone's side, I back out and reposition myself.

So will anything really be done if you take a picture of the damage and write down their license plate number?

I'm crazy about my car (try to wash it every work...I make sure to wash it at least every other week and I do a full detail on it once every 3 months) but I can't avoid people and their stupid doors. I'm always really careful, especially if it's a tight parking spot, when I'm getting out of the car. I'm sick of having to pay money to get the dents removed or to get it repainted if the scratch goes through the clearcoat and paint...

Damn man what kinda car is that? That sucks that, that kind of stuff happens. fucking haters... anyways like I said what kind of car is that... looks cheapy. Haha just messin. But it does look like a Honda CR-V... yeah?

Right on just a good guess. I know what Pilots and Elements look like, and those weren't it. So it had to be a CR-V. Damn I wanted an Element EX-P so bad. Anyways I settled for the Accord EX V-6.

The moral of the story is to just buy everyday, used cars like camrys, accords, explorers and trust me no one will dent your car unless they are a fat ass or you have a political bumper sticker on your car. I see dents all the time on nice Japanese cars like G35 coupe, s2000, Acura TL, Lexus IS. This is the main reason I don't buy nice cars. I don't believe in spending 6-8 months salary on someone that is going to get mistreated when I'm gone.

no matter where you go you will get dents and dings in your car. you park your car in the 3rd dimension and it will still be scratched....my teg has 2 dents on both fenders, one on the driver's side, one on the back passenger panel. it sucks but you could a body shop to use a door plunger and plunge it out. i dunno the cost of them doing it but a little ding shouldnt be that much...it sucks that the guy did it infront of you with no shame on him. what a jerk. shit i woulda slashed his tires and then drove off.

where the hell are these scratches coming from?

i wouldnt think because you have a cheap car that no one will dent it. shit my teg is 11 years old and has dented 4 times and i only owned the car for 3 years. thats why i havent gone as far as ordering the Bomex kit from japan because of how people treat cars here. infact shitier cars would in my mind be an invitation to destroy it for the fact that its crap and if you were th eowner you probably wouldnt care about it. what it really boils down is carelessness and accidents. buying a shitty car wont garuntee your car dent free. infact nothing will. i understand why people want a nice car and thats for enjoyment and the feeling of the hard work that was put in to get the car.i would think many CAGS who do drive nice cars can atest to that. i bet you that there are dent free G35s,330s,Rls,Rx-8 , hell the list can go on...what this story really means that shit happens and the op got his sweet revenge.
