The warranty card that comes with the 360 is under $60 and gives you 2 full years, parts and labor covered.

I figured since its a launch console its worth paying. Anyone else going to get this?
Any idea if it covers shipping the console to them?
No idea. But even if it broke and I had to pay $25 to ship it to them on top of the $60 for the warranty, that's still cheaper than buying a new one.

sounds kinda lame, but blockbuster isn't giving out warranties so I guess I'll take it up. Sams Club's 3 year warranty on it would be 40 bucks, too bad i wasn't able to pick it up there.
nah, got a $40 one through Best buy.
I was considering Best Buy but one of the guys who we were near in line said they're awful on getting your shit repaired. For another $20 it seems almost worth it to me to get a warranty through MS itself.

in the past, they've just given me a new one. I don't think they are equipped to repair systems.

Best Buy replacement plan is where its at.

Pretty reasonable price, and when your 360 "breaks" a year and a half from now, you just send it back to them and they will send you a credit voucher for what you paid... not the current going value of the 360. So basically, if the price drops to 300 in a year, you get a couple free games out of it. Well worth it, I'm still using and reusing credit from my first ipod there (i just ALWAYS get the replacement plan). And no I don't work there, I work at EB (which has a decent warranty, but not nearly as abusable).

on top of the Reward Zone bucks for this one (like $40 maybe?), it's a helluva deal. definitely trading mine as soon as that first price drop comes.

I think I MIGHT get the MS warranty. I bought mine from GameRush/Blockbuster....and they have no warranty there. So, for $60, why not. I'll wait after my 90 days are up though (or at least until after X-mas gifts are bought for my wife and family)

MS warranty covers the following:
* Full 2 year extension beyond the 90 day warranty period with purchase (so 2 years, 3 months of warranty)
* Unlimited repairs to your console within the warranty period
* Covers shipping both directions to MS for the repair, including shipment of an approved shipping box; shipment is ground shipment both directions
* Normal repair time is 5-7 days from date of shipment to MS

BB warranty covers:
* Covers it for 2 years inclusive from the date of purchase (2 years coverage)
* Single replacement of the console in the warranty period and it's used up
* "Replacement" involves shipping the console to BB (parcel post @ BB's cost), wait 2-3 weeks for the voucher, which ends up being a gift card for a new item
* Purchase of a new console requires the purchase of a new warranty

MS warranty has to be purchased within the first year of the console's life, and has to be working when you purchase it. This was the case for the Xbox, so I'd like to think it would be the same case for the 360. They prefer you buy it within the console's warranty period, though they let you do it within one year of purchase.

BB's warranty has to be purchased within 30 days of purchase, though they prefer you buy it at time of purchase.

It all depends on what you want to do with your warranty. If you actually want to get it repaired, go with the MS warranty. If you want to "upgrade" your console with a new version at the time of price drop, then go with the BB warranty. BB's warranty is a product replacement plan, since they don't fix it, and it's used up with a single use. MS warranty is an actual repair plan.

thanks for this info, i have been reluctant to break the seal until i found this out (the ms website doesn't seem to provide this helpful info)

Actually, you need to mail out the Warranty envelope within 10 days of purchase.

I'm getting it for sure. $60 for 2 years of relatively worry free coverage for my 360. If I don't get one, I would always carry the thought that it's gonna break any time soon in the back of my mind.

That's not true, from what the MS reps told me. I asked them the same thing with my Xbox and they said that it could be within in the first year. I can't see how they'd be able to stick to "10 days, and then you're fucked", since the warranty on it is 90 days, and if it's under warranty, they'd fix it anyway. It should be within the first 90 days, without question.

If the situation changed, then it's different for the 360, and in any case, calling them on the 800-4-MY-XBOX phone # will get the correct story. Plus, you can just do it over the phone with them anyway.

I think I actually read something about the MS warranty replacing the console if your system is unrepairable.

Well yeah....
They're not just going to say you're SOL if it's under warrenty

If its unrepairable, sure... but they attempt to repair it first, whereas Best Buy simply replaces it every time.

Yeah, well, maybe I should've said "if they deem the cost of repairing it is more than just giving you a new system". That better?

I bought the MS warranty for the first xbox and it paid for itself 3 times over. I just mailed out the form and a check for the 360 warranty. Worth it to me.

The form inside the 360's box says 10 days.

Also for the Best Buy Replacement Plan, some stores will actually let you bring it into the store and they will give you store credit on the spot. I know mine will (Mishawaka, IN). Just ask your store when you are in there if you can bring it in if it breaks, or if you have to send it in.

It's completely fucked up, like if the AC adapter over-volted the system and fried everything in it, they'd just replace it for quickness' sake.

Single-part or double-part repairs, they'd probably just repair it. If it's system board problems, they'd probably swap it out.

As does the one in the box for the Xbox, and when I called them on day 9 to ask them this very question, they told me about it being a year from purchase date. I can't see them being dicks about it during the holiday season, since I'm sure there are Xbox 360's for holiday presents that might not get opened until beyond the 10 day period from date of purchase though within the 90 day warranty from date of purchase.

If you're really unsure about it, go call them, like I did.

BB's around here usually want you to go through the process on the 800 # for the PRP, though some will let you do it in-store during the first year. In the second year's time, they really want you to do it through the 800 #. Depends on the store, though I just do it through the 800 # all the time and never have any issues with it.

I recommend the BB replacement plan. I had one for my PS2. It started giving disc read errors a year and a half into me owning it so I brought it to BB. They said whats wrong with it? I said I get disc read errors on half of my games. They said ok and told me to go get another PS2. I picked up another one, they scanned it and gave me a gift card for the difference (was $300 when I bought it, $170 or something when I honored the replacement plan). It was so very easy and simple.
None of the warranties come close to the Costco automatic, lifetime guarantee.
Does Costco.com count in that too?
