I think I actually read something about the MS warranty replacing the console if your system is unrepairable.
It's completely

ed up, like if the AC adapter over-volted the system and fried everything in it, they'd just replace it for quickness' sake.
Single-part or double-part repairs, they'd probably just repair it. If it's system board problems, they'd probably swap it out.
The form inside the 360's box says 10 days.
As does the one in the box for the Xbox, and when I called them on day 9 to ask them this very question, they told me about it being a year from purchase date. I can't see them being dicks about it during the holiday season, since I'm sure there are Xbox 360's for holiday presents that might not get opened until beyond the 10 day period from date of purchase though within the 90 day warranty from date of purchase.
If you're really unsure about it, go call them, like I did.
Also for the Best Buy Replacement Plan, some stores will actually let you bring it into the store and they will give you store credit on the spot. I know mine will (Mishawaka, IN). Just ask your store when you are in there if you can bring it in if it breaks, or if you have to send it in.
BB's around here usually want you to go through the process on the 800 # for the PRP, though some will let you do it in-store during the first year. In the second year's time, they really want you to do it through the 800 #. Depends on the store, though I just do it through the 800 # all the time and never have any issues with it.
