Anyone had their wisdom teeth taken out?

I guess mine wasn't as bad as others but I definitely don't remember much after they put me under and the next day after the operation.

I hate dentist and neglected my teeth for years. But I did get them healthy again, with surgery and so forth. I tried Valium and Vicodin before to settle me down, which didn't work. But, the wisdom teeth were easy. Strapped me in the chair, knocked me out. Took only one Vicodin the next day.

My dentist says he doesn't anybody to sleep. Something about the gas causing damage to you internal body and junk.

I didn't mind though, i would hate being put to sleep for anything.

Had mine taken out in 2002, was knocked out with gas, just went in and started counting backwards next thing I knew it was all done and over. You'll be really groggy afterwards and gotta have someone give you a ride home. Just be prepared for a few days of solid gaming and movie watching. I was given vicodin but it must've been a low dose because it never knocked me out.

They may have give you 2.5/250. Vicodin doesn't always knock you out anyway.

LOL...that's fucked up to say that.

I get knocked out within 30 seconds of gas or IV :|

My parents forced me to have them removed over the summer when I was 13 or 14. One summer upper, the other summer lower. :(
I realized now how important it is to get them removed as soon as you can...met a lot of people who had them grow out and in serious pain because they didn't have them removed at a young age. When my kids get to there tween years, they are coming out!

I've never heard of anyone getting them removed that young. I think most people have it done from 18 to early 20's. My g/f needs hers taken out but she has to wait until open enrollment so she can get dental insurance this year. Glad I had mine done when I was younger, as I'm unemployed and uninsured at the moment. Just hoping my appendix doesn't decide to burst anytime soon.

Keepin mine. If they dont give you any probs or if there is no reason keep them. Wisdoms do bother some people. IF you have a small mouth they can shift teeth. But for me the more teeth the better.

I had five teeth (4 wisdom + 1 more) when I was like 15 or 16. They just gave me valium beforehand while I waited in the lobby. I got in sat in the chair and before she stuck the needle in my arm I was out. Next thing I remember I'm in my bed watching TV.

Maybe it was only me, but I haven't seen anyone talk about how you had to clean the area's where they cut them out for a few weeks until the sutures went away.

I had one taken out about two years ago. I didn't have any knock out drugs, but I did have some anesthetic that made half of my face numb. Afterward the Doc prescribed me some Vicodin. So, I was pretty much floating on a cloud for the next couple of days.

I got lucky -- the dentist said that after having braces, there was enough room left over in my mouth for my wisdom teeth to stay. Knock on wood, they've given me no trouble so far.

Of course in order to get the braces, I had to have a large chunk of my gums removed that was sticking in between my two front teeth. They even took that bit of connective skin that keeps the upper lip connected to the gums. They drugged me up nice and good (I still remember floating along on a blood cell, watching the doctors above me), but the following week or so was nothing but pudding and Slim Fast shakes.

I had my wisdom teeth removed about 2 days after my birthday nearly 3 years ago. I was put to sleep via IV so I didn't feel the excruciating pain until after, however, the roots of all four wisdom teeth were deformed and the bottom two were elongated and wrapped around the muscles and bones in my bottom jaw so I had a bit of an exceptional case. The surgeon didn't know this until after I was asleep and (pardon the pun) rooting around down there, it turned out he had to break the root off the teeth and then smash the roots and dig out each individual piece of my impacted teeth all the way down and around my jaw bones. The 1 hour procedure took closer to 3 hours and the swelling and bruising was horrific, I have pictures of my cheeks distended 3 inches from my face for 3 weeks and the bruising covered my entire face and completely down my throat. But the best part was that the bruises lasted for 2 months, no exaggeration, 2 months straight. I couldn't tell you how many friends and teachers asked me if I'd been punched in the face for weeks after the surgery. But don't let my story scare you I had an abnormal case, Good Luck! :D
