Ah, I see.
My only beef with the DS3 comes with trying to play racing games for long periods of time. I always map the gas and brakes to the triggers and the non-trigger nature of L2 and R2 makes my fingers slip off sometimes.
They make some little slip-on triggers that I should probably get around to buying someday.
Those trigger extenders are a God send for the standard PS3 controllers. Well worth the $5 I paid for them. Although I think BB has a 2 pack with 2 pairs of them for $6 now. I may have to buy a couple extra sets cuz I've been getting rid of my older DS3's and snapping off the one pair I picked up from GS a long time ago.
As for 360 type controllers, there was one called the dreamGEAR Shadow:

It's decent if you don't have your PS3 anywhere near a wireless phone that's running on the same bandwidth. When I had one it worked well while charging via the USB cable but after pairing it up with the USB dongle and going wireless its' vibration motors went to full speed and nothing else worked right on the controller after that. It just sat there vibrating at full speed till the battery was fully drained.

There was also the Rocketfish brand controllers from BB, but they clearanced those out to $10 each a long time ago. The L2/R2 triggers were crappy on them and the PS button took a while to get broke in to where it'd work on the first shot.

I just opened the last one of those I had about a month ago and the R2 button is acting up. I think it may be that the battery is close to kaput, since I've seen the same issues with Dual Shocks when their battery starts to go.
