I wouldn't be surprised if they released Grindhouse on DVD, then released the full length versions of both Planet Terror and Death Proof seperately, and then finally a set containing all 3.
Of course, I'd wait for the set. Still waiting on something for Kill Bill ...
Cabin Fever
That was awful. There were one or two funny lines in the beginning, but other than that nothing worthwhile.
Oh come on, "that gun's for the niggers" was ing hilarious.
Wasn't that at the beginning? It's been a while, but that was one of the two I was thinking of.
Yeah it was at the beginning but the real payoff for the line came at the very end.
Yeah, I guess that's true. But it's still just one joke.
Oh, I guess the bit about the squirrels was kinda funny too.
I laughed at "Pancakes!", but more because I didn't know what else to do than the fact that it was actually funny.
So, I guess I liked the first 20 minutes or so, it was the rest of the movie that sucked.
I loved Death Proof, but it was SO radically different from Planet Terror in every conceivable way that it's a bit jarring.
Planet Terror is so over-the-top and sensory-overload-y, Death Proof would've worked as a nice lead-in. Start out with some good dialogue, a cool car sequence, and then get your balls blown off after the intermission.
Speaking of the intermission...I noticed some people got up and left after Planet Terror. I don't know if they didn't understand the concept of the "double feature" or if they had just had enough.

Yeah, I firmly believe Death Proof should have been the first movie of the double feature.
There was quite a few people that went to the bathroom between the two movies when I saw it, myself included, but I don't think anyone just flat out left. I even timed it to be during the Thanksgiving trailer cause I'd already seen that one online.

I just went during the boring-as- beginning of Death Proof.
I'd have appreciated it more if I wasn't so.. I dunno, excited? from seeing Planet Terror.

Yeah, see? I always thought Tarantino had a great ability to give a real "voice" to his characters. Yes, I'm one of the few who actually loved Jackie Brown. So, I'm sitting there trying to get into the dialogue at the beginning of Death Proof, but I just couldn't concentrate. All I could think about is how I just got my mind rocked by Planet Terror.

Exactly. I really do wish they reversed the two. I'm considering going to see it again and leaving after Planet Terror.

Hey I too loved Jackie Brown. The reviews prevented me from watching it for almost 6 years but when I finally caught it, I loved every minute of it. Maybe too many people were expecting Pulp Fiction 2.
Anyway, Planet Terror was so way over the top, I was laughing most of the movie to the point where tears were coming out of my eyes. I think in that regard the movie succeeded. I actually like Death Proof more, yeah it had the dragging parts of dialogue but I think it really set me up for the intense action sequences that show up.
Anyone try to find the easter eggs in the movie. In Death Proof, Lee is wearing a cheerleaders outfit with "VIPERS" on it. I think thats a reference to the viper assassin squad in Kill Bill. Also, in Death Proof Rose McGowan goes blonde like her character in the first Scream movie.
Yeah, I firmly believe Death Proof should have been the first movie of the double feature.
I think they showed Deathproof second because although it's the polar opposite of Planet Terror with the dialogue-driven plot as opposed to balls-to-the-wall action, it obviously had the better payoff at the end and it puts one hell of an exclamation point at the end of the experience.
EDIT: Another Easter Egg is when someone mentoned Big Kahuna Burger from Pulp Fiction, and in Deathproof one of the girls had a cup with Acuna Boys on it, when was a reference to Kill Bill vol. 2
I saw It. I am not A big Fan of Robert Rodriguez. Only movie of his I liked was Sin City. But Planet Terror was so much better then Death Proof. Planet Terror payed homage to grindhouse movies beyond what deathproof did. Alot Of reviewers stated that QT's Movie was better but I felt the exact oposite. I could of cared less about anyone in that movie and the mass boring dialogue just ruined it for me. This was not his best Dialogue since Pulp Fiction. Planet terror 4/5 , Deathproof 2 1/2 stars. I loved the pocket bike chase scene so obscure but so brilliantly funny. Next Two movies Are ATHF and Hot Fuzz.
Shit with this announcement I'm happy I saw it this weekend. Loved, LOVED this movie. Absolutely hilarious and just loved the campiness of it. The in between "fake" trailers were incredible and I can't wait for the actual Machete movie that is in the works. Hopefully Werewolf Women of the SS is made into a movie as well as Thanksgiving. I would definitely go out and see those. This movie(s) was everything I had hoped for and more. Tarentino's part of the movie was quintessential (sp) Tarentino, even though it was a bit dry at times. Everybody should go out and see this movie so that more of its ilk can be made.
The theatre I was in made it seem like it was definitely going back to the 70s with the actual Grindhouse flicks. People were hootin' and a hollerin' and just laughing histerically. For once it didn't actually bother me one bit. It sort of felt like going to a Rocky Horror Picture Show screening. People were clapping throughout both movies, especially Death Proof. It was awesome and a sight to beheld. The atmosphere and the audience really lent itself to the film(s)
I really liked the ending to Death Proof. Everyone stood and cheered at the end of it where they beat the shit out of that guy. So not expected and just felt liek such a proper and resounding ending.
This was definitely worth the $10 price of admission and one of the few times I felt like I got my full money's worth.

I can't agree more with you. Like I said above, everyone was clapping and really getting involved and interacting with the movie. There were some lines shouted out and I kept overhearing people whisper to each other how it was this director's turn and then so-and-sos turn, etc.
Can't wait for the DVD, but I hope that they keep the flicks together and that there is a ton of extras on the DVDs. Also, if they do decide to split up the flicks, hopefully we won't have to wait an eternity for the special edition DVDs where they put them back together like with Kill Bill.
Nicolas Cage As Fu Man Chu!
I liked all the cameos in the film as well. I didn't expect him to be in there, nor Bruce Willis (again). Let's see, between Rodriguez and Tarentino, how many flicks has Willis been the two? 4 I take it? That scene with Nick Cage pretty much had the entire audience I was in stunned/shocked/mesmerized and falling out of their seats laughing. Also, I heard a few gasps when Willis was unveiled as the bad guy of Planet Terror. It was pretty funny to see Fergie in it as well. I did a few double takes trying to remember where I'd seen her before, but the nice and gratuitous camera shouts of her ass helped me remember just who it was . Nice bit of camera work there Mr. Rodriguez. Not saying that I'm complaining because it actually made it seem that Fergie was hot or at least tolerable and nice looking.
That sucks if they do split it into two films. I want to see it. I like movies that do the old school vibe i.e Devils Rejects. Anyway if it ain't doing good as a double feature how would it do any good as two separate films no one's seen.
That's actually going to be a direct-to-DVD movie.
I thought I read somewhere that Machete is now getting full length feature treatment.
Fergie is in it? I wasn't going to see this before and sure as hell won't now.
She dies and has nice and gratuitous ass shots.
Oh and let me just say that the twin babysitters were smokin' hot
With you on that one.
GrindHouse is the best movie so far this year.
Next to 300 and Children of Men.
in general QT and rodriguez movies (minus spy kids) haven't really grossed well at the box office, so the poor box office isn't surprising. usually their movies are low budget tho so even tho they make only 60-70 million they're still profitable, but grindhouse cost 53 million to make so thats prolly why the media is considering this a "flop".
in order to make back its budget they would prolly have to sell almost 100 million at the box office. the only movie of QT to make > 100 mil was pulp fiction , jackie brown was only 40 mil, kill bills were about 60-70, res dogs only 3 mil
i just think his type of films don't appeal to a broad audience
Were you purposely not combining the Kill Bills because they were made back to back and were supposed to be one movie. What about Sin City? That grossed a pretty penny both in theatres and then on the two releases on DVD. This actually reminds me, but my Sin City Recut edition is acting up/busted and I need to replace it. Off to BB tomorrow I guess to switch it out.
OK, everyone has to read this spoiler. It's awesome. So guy posted it on the IMDB and he's exactly right. It's basically how you should go and see Death Proof if you didn't like it or found it dragging at times.
DEATH PROOF the slasher film
DEATH PROOF was actually a let down... there were just too many boring girl dialogue scenes while sitting in cafes and bars. I mean do I really want to see some snobby rich girl text messaging back and forth with her boyfriend who is making promises to her and then blowing her off... no. Tarantino dialogue is usually extremely witty but it just made me fall asleep in this movie. Of course, the terrible performances by the 8 or 9 female cast members may have had something to do with that. This movie also had MISSING REELS but they were not as strategically placed as they were in Planet Terror. They never got laughs. They were completely random and made the story flow like melted swiss cheese... it stank.
However, if 9 boring female actresses drag a movie down there is only one thing that can save it... a man. KURT RUSSELL SAVED THE MOVIE! Kurt Russell stars in the heroic role of the film as Stuntman Mike. Stuntman Mike is the kind of hero that hangs out at bars all night and keeps a protective eye over the city by making sure that slashers/ bad female drivers do not get behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated, high, or text messaging and threaten the lives of the good people of the city. Stuntman Mike has made it his goal to save the world from irresponcible lawbreaking 'nonbehind bars criminals' and he does just that.
The first half of DEATH PROOF is great. Kurt Russell saves the day and kills all of the high, drunk, and text messaging bad female drivers. Evil is punished.
The second half of the movie was kind of a let down. A new group of criminal and irresponcible female drivers have lied to a young man trying to sell his old muscle car. They convince him to let them take it for a test drive without his supervision and since he is a nice guy and maybe not so smart... he lets them do it. So how do they repay his kindness? By driving this guys car around like a bunch of freaking idiots. One of the girls gets out on the hood of the car and surfs on it while another girl drives the car at an excess of 100MPH. THIS ISN'T EVEN THEIR CAR!!! THEY HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF BUYING IT!!! ...and here they are breaking the speed limit and surfing on the hood which is without a doubt scratching the paint off of the hood but "That's ok" it's not their car.
Luckily, our hero Stuntman Mike happened to be standing on the highest hill overlooking the city with his pair of binoculars. He spots the criminal activity but will he have time to stop them before they injure innocent people?
He hops in his 1970 Black Dodge Charger and races off to save the day... kinda like Batman. You might notice that the car is a homage to another group of heroes. They were called the Dukes of Hazzard.
When he finally catches up to the criminal activity he does everything in his power to stop them and of course they scream just like General Zod screamed when Superman crushed his hand in Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. However, both of the cars spin out of control and come to a screeching halt. Stuntman Mike gets out of his car to admire the fact that he once again saved the day and stop the killing machine that is bad female drivers behind the wheel of a car.
However, like any slasher film the villians aways come back. One girl pulls out an unlicensed and therefore illegal firearm/pistol and shoots Stuntman Mike in the arm. The crazy girl who was riding on the hood and was thrown from the car during the wreck emerges from the ditch still alive and with the only instinct she knows as a bad driver... the urge to kill.
Stuntman Mike barely escapes with his life and drives off into the sunset... defeated but alive to continue the battle against evil another day. But will this be the end of the film? No - the killers/bad female drivers won't leave it at that. They want revenge which is the evil form of justice...
Stuntman Mike is fixing his wounds like in the old days of Clint Eastwoods westerns. He makes do with the resources he has around him. He finds a bottle of hard liquor/alcohol in the glove compartment. You might notice that the seal is not cracked. Like a good citizen, he does not drive with an open container of alcohol in his car. He drinks just enough of it to numb the pain and his uses the rest to steralize his wound. You might remember that scene in the Clint Eastwood classic TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARAH. Although, I'm putting my money on the fact that you have not seen that film so I will continue with the review.
The girls hunt him down because the slashers always know where the heroes are hiding folks. They wreck into the back end of his car with a car that still doesn't belong to them. Then one of the girls jumps out of the car, pulls out a long metal bar (a popular slasher weapon most commonly used by Jason Voorhees), and proceeds to beat Stuntman Mike. Stuntman Mike drives off once again and races away for his life but the other car (that doesn't belong to the girls driving it) is hot on his tail. Stuntman Mike even risks his life by pulling off the road to avoid hitting hard working farmers and good citizens.
However, the chase is futile as the girls wreck both of the cars even though they are only driving one, pull Stuntman Mike, and proceed to punch the hero in the face until he dies. And then they jump up in the air with their arms outstretched as if they did something to celebrate about and the film freeze frames and ends.
Then the film comes back for a few seconds so we can see one of the girls kick Stuntman Mike in the face with high heels...
Then fades out again.
What a terrible ending. I would rather have seen the thing win at the end of THE THING.
It's actually no surprise to me. A buddy of mine works at a movie promotion company. His contacts have stated that QT already was going to put out Death Proof with added footage latter in the year. It was planned from the beginning. I thought it was stupid myself, making people paying twice to see it when you've already seen most of it the first time.
Shouldn't be split up. The problem is that not enough people from the ed up, stoner, and heavy metal group are going out to see it, or just haven't heard about it yet. Oh and my English professor went and saw it, but he wrote a book on Elvis, so that should tell you something about his personality...haha.

Nice spoiler tags.
If you come into this thread and hit the third page (for me viewing at 50 posts a page) then you really shouldn't have any need for spoiler tags, but whatever. Go see this movie as it kicks ass.
I saw it last night. I LOVED Planet Terror. I was laughing the whole entire time and the action was unbelievable. The trailer were brilliant. They all need to be real movies.
But then we get to Death Proof. I absolutely hated that movie. Everyone I was with hated it. I can't believe how bad it was, I'm still reeling from it. There was so much dialogue, bad dialogue at that, that made the movie drag and drag. I do not want to listen to a bunch girls talk for 75 minutes about the most boring and uninteresting topics ever. Kurt Russell wasn't even that interesting, but despite being the bad guy, I wanted him to win very badly. The ending was so horrible and made me even more mad than I was while watching this load of shit.
I can't believe those annoying girls killed him, I screamed " you" at the screen I was so mad.
2007 Movies:
1. 300
2. Pans Labrynth
3. Children of Men
4. Grind House
5. Reign Over Me
6. Blades of Glory
7. Reno 911
8. Black Snake Moan
The top 4 is very hard for me. They are all number 1 on different levels. I cant figure it out. I also have a list of EVERY movie I have seen this year (for the first time).
I loved Grindhouse it was deffinetally different and fun. Death Proof had some AMAZING acting, but was definetally WAY to slow after the first one. The first one was just nonstop excitement.
I was getting a little sick of super gross violence towards the end.
Can anyone confirm that they have ALREADY split this ing thing? I saw one guy (who I can't vouch for) write that he went to get tickets this afternoon and they tried to charge him twice since it was now two seperate movies rather than a "double feature."
If true, that is lame as hell, they could have at least given it another weekend before neutering it.
Edit -

Am I the only one who noticed the guy buying Red Apples Cigarettes in Planet Terror?
Oh, and I actually preferred Death Proof. Planet Terror came off as Resident Evil with wittier dialogue and Bruce Willis to me, while Death Proof took a while to get going, but the payoff was better.
Part of that may be I went into it thinking that Death Proof was going to be utter shit and Planet Terror would be amazing thanks to all the internet critics. Low expectations made it so I was more easily impressed perhaps.
I enjoyed both for different reasons. I will agree, however, that I enjoyed PT a bit more than DP. People kept hyping the payoff in DP, and to me it was meh. Quality release, nonetheless, and I will be in STOKED if Machete ever actually makes it to production.
ps- the trampoline scene in Thanksgiving was ing painful.
It's already been split at all the threatres near me. Guess I won't be seeing it in the theatre now.
Shit, I'd better see it soon.
Death Proof dragged on a tad bit but the ending more than makes up for that.
Planet Terror felt more like an exploitation film than Death Proof. I thought Planet Terror started a little slow too, my thoughts before seeing it were that it would jump straight into the violence and gore but it actually developed some things like other ordinary movies.
Anyways Grindhouse was awesome. I can't get the ending of Death Proof out of my head, it's just so ing awesome. Kurt Russel was hilarious too.
Shit, I'd better see it soon.
See, this movie had better catch on like wildfire because I ing want to see a Grindhouse 2 or something similar be done. Damn it people, spread the word. I was in line the other day the see ATHF the movie (meh for those asking) and I recommended it to the people in front of me who went to see it instead of Disturbia or Pathfinder.

Yeah my friend did the same thing actually but for Grindhouse when we were going to see ATHF.
wow dropped to 4 million this weekend. I really thought it was a sure fire blockbuster. It does show me that reviews matter even less now.
I can see it only getting less once it splits into a double feature.
I'd definetally wouldnt go see the movies seperate
