Apparently there is a plague causing havoc in World of Warcraft

Heres the skinny: Blizzard adds in a new instance, Zul'Gurub. Inside is the god of blood, Hakkar. Well, when you fight him he has a debuff called Corrputed Blood. It does like 250-350 damage to palyers and affects nearby players. The amazing thing is SOME PLAYERS have brought this disease (and it is a disease) back to the towns, outside of the instance. It starts spreading amongst the genral population including npcs, who can out generate the damage. Some servers have gotten so bad that you can't go into the major cities without getting the plague (and anyone less than like level 50 nearly immediately die). GM's even tried quarantining players in certain areas, but the players kept escaping the quarantine and infecting other players.

gotta love virtual plagues

Im waiting on people to blame george bush for the outbreak and his lack of planning for causing it to become out of control. It's clearly his fault.

On a serious note, I dont expect blizzard to handle this very well either. They will take a few weeks to get it fixed or take the servers down for days while they eat donuts and laugh about it.- Just like they do with every major problem that pops up in the game.

 I just beat that guy last night and didn't have a single problem... I wonder if its a curse or a disease... as I druid, this shouldn't effect me much. ^_^

alright, i've seen these ytmnd.com things all over the place. where the hell did they come from, and does ytmnd stand for something?

ytmnd stands for "You're the man now dog." and it came from Sean Connery's character in the movie Finding Forrester. As far as the plague goes, I like it a lot. :p

Is it just me or are the developers their own worst enemy. I mean you hear nothing about hackers in the game but plenty of people turning a boss battle side effect into a major problem. Wasn't there a problem a while ago where a boss would cause a pet to explode and cause splash damage so people would teleport their pet into town and blow everyone up like a suicide bomber? Personally, I think that one was more funny but hey this seems like a blast too!

Yeah I don't remember the exact problem, but a Warlock could dismiss their pet once this status was activated on them, and when they resummoned the pet in a town it would explode and deal massive damage. I remember watching the video where the guy did this at the IF auction house...it was classic. I was leveling Warlock at the time, but they had already resolved the bug >=[

Yeah that sounds a little bit more like it. Either way, shits funny. Probably cause I don't play anymore but when it comes to killing their fellow WoWer, people can get pretty damn creative.

That's actually pretty interesting even if it is a bug. Anyone have a link to this video of the pet exploding, think that would be kinda funny to see :)
sounds like .hack. if only it had a connection to real life.
Exactly what I was thinking...you guys better find aura.

That is actually really interesting. Good immersion, and semi-realistic with the spreading of a plague (minus the whole regeneration thing). I that this is really cool.... mostly 'cause i don't play WoW and am not affected by the whole mess.

This reminds me a bit of the Korean plague in Diablo 1 or 2 pn battle.net, i forget which it was. Anyway, for a span of time there was a glitch if you typed a full chat window of periods and pressed enter it would crash Korean copies of the game. There were people all over who would enter the game, type a long string of "..............", then after 1 or two minutes would get the message "Player x left the game due to timeout"

Does this remind anyone else of the "You Have AIDS" song from a recent Family Guy episode? They should have used that instead.

I laughed very hard at that one and this whole thread topic. What a funny bunch those blizzard people are. In fact its almost like the crew working on this game is somehow working against blizzard to make things worse for players.
Bet they are Everquest spies.

Geroge Bush doesn't care about Dwarven people.

This is funny. Talk abotu unintende consequences. But this could turn out to be a cool plot device.

Awesome to see a real-world phenomenon (a disease outbreak) propagating in a virtual world. If quarantines can remain established that would minimize transmission, but alas, some players and NPC's are getting through. What would be even cooler is if the plague begins to become more or less virulent and the resulting scenarios.

Is there a lesson to be learned for the inevitable avian influenza pandemic?

"Teh_n00b_pwn3r3r has just logged in."
"Awesome! WoW is amazing!"
"Teh_n00b_pwn3r3r has just caught -The Plague-"
"Cool! I'm amazed at the realism in this game! TOTALLY worth the 15$ a month!"

10 minutes later

"OMG WTF BLIZZARD! FIX THIS NOW!"

5 minutes later

"Teh_n00b_pwn3r3r has cancelled his account"

:/ I actually DID cancel my account right before 1.7 came out !

OMG hahaha too funny!

I've been repairing my pc plus too busy to play WoW since they added on the new expansion. All I had time since the last patch was to get my hunter pet a new skill and then had to log off.

This is way too funny. If I had the plague, I'd run around spreading it too. I'd also hope my hunter's combat pet got affected as well...because that would mean TWO of us to spread the damage and wreak havoc in the high pop areas.

You know, even if one of my low level toons died from this plague, I wouldn't be too upset about it...I'd probably LMAO. Sometimes I wonder what video game designers are thinking when they release stuff like this.

But seriously, players mess around with an enemy called the God of Blood and didn't expect any serious consequences? I find it quite refreshing (and humorous) to see some manifestation of a ingame god's anger in the form of a plague that affects the rest of the ingame world.

Hasnt hit my server as people arent doing the instance yet. Its too new and we have a low server population. Cant wait till it does hit. I want the plague!!

I'm contemplating whether to log into one of my higher level character (not that high, mid-30s since I'm new) to check it out. But the bad thing is that I'm in IF last time I log off. Maybe I'll stick with my UD priest in the lower population server.

Haha, I logged on with my highest level toon and ran around the outside of the new instance areas (since not enough people were on late at night to form a raid for it) just HOPING I would get infected. I brought along my strongest tank hunter pet too so there would be too of us to spread the disease.

Wouldn't you know it, no one was infected anywhere! I wonder if Blizzard finally patched this little goofup?

Ohhh the WMDs!
