Apple Game Center

Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games support this.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs.

General iOS FAQ

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday. Most notably is the fact that many developers discount their apps for Christmas and because Apple employees, in charge of App Store changes, take a break during the week of Christmas these discounts usually last until the new year.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Apps can be re-downloaded from your iOS device. To do this open the App Store and look for a tab called "Purchased". From here you can re-download any previously purchased apps.

6. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores and receiving cards as gifts are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

7. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

8. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

9. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

10. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Games by Genre as Recommended by Fellow CAGs

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on high-quality games they may have missed and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new iDevice.

Green titles are universal (ipad and iphone/ipod touch).
Italic are iPad only.
^ are retina optimized for the iPad.
* are iPhone 5/5th gen iPod Touch optimized.
Some game developers/companies like to offer free versions which are usually demos of the full version and a great way to check out and determine if you will actually like a particular game without paying anything. These demos are noted as such. Some game developers/companies like Zynga, however, like to offer free, AD-Supported, versions of their games which means you get the full game, but it features ads and by buying the paid version you remove those ads. AD-Supported games are noted as such.
Thanks for the info, picking them up after this. Has anyone tried out Infinity Gauntlet or Fear Itself tables?
I will be picking up the Infinity Gauntlet table, and didn't even consider the Fear Itself table until I was flipping through the Zen forums and found some discussion on it. Now I'm intrigued. I figure, best get it now while it's a buck.

Danger...lots of talk about pinball lately. Didn't know there were that many pinball fans here...or anywhere.

I came to that same conclusion just get it now, its only .99.

The big sale doesn't hurt. I was never into pinball before but past few days have found it to be great for portable gaming.

Figured for a couple bucks, I'd get in on this pinball thing. Always enjoyed the game.

What tables have everyone unanimously agreed are the best?

I went with:
Star Wars Episode V
Star Wars Clone Wars
Boba Fett
Fear Itself
Infinity Gauntlet
X-Men
Wolverine

I passed on Clone Wars cause I'm not familiar with that franchise, but I guess I shouldn't let that stop me if it's a good table. I think I'm gonna pass on all the Marvel ones, they don't look that interesting.

Arkham City Lockdown is 5.99 > .99, looks like it was 99 for a month in Dec-January. They added iPad Retina resolution in April.

All this talk about pinball is awesome. But is there a thread to exchange gamecenter info? Be a lot more fun to compare scores with some cags.

I bought all the tables. I spend more then $20 per week here in Vegas @ the Pinball Hall Of Fame Arcade.

Before buying any tables, I tried out the Sorcerers Lair table just to get a jist of what they were like, and I can honestly say too much stuff was going on for me to understand what was going on with special doors and whatnot, and I couldn't read the small light up phrases ..I can only imagine the other tables are the same.

I don't really know wtf is going on, I just play and try not to let the ball fall through the flippers. Sometimes cool shit occurs. I read a guide on the Boba Fett table and got some idea of things you can trigger to make stuff happen, but I don't really have the ability to intentionally trigger them so I just play.

I know I'm in the minority, but I just could not play through Bastion because of the controls to me felt loose on the PC. Maybe it's better on a touch screen.

Sorcerer's Lair is actually one of the best tables to start learning on in Zen Pinball in my opinion. That sense of discovery and "oh hey, what did I do to trigger that?" is a big part of learning a table, and a lot of the fun in pinball comes from mastering all of those different modes and mechanics on any given table. You might want to check out a table guide to get a handle on some of the modes and make it feel a bit less random and chaotic. https://forum.zenstudios.com/showth...in-s-Table-Guides-for-PFX2-amp-Marvel-Pinball

If you want a simpler table with fewer bells and whistles, maybe try Iron Man or Wolverine. They still have modes and such, but the tables might be a bit easier to follow.

I asked this earlier. In the lower part of the game description for Bastion it says that iPhone 4 is fine, at the top it says 4s or later.

Anybody play it on a 4?

All night I was playing Infinity Gauntlet table, at one point Thanos snaps his fingers and my flippers just went reverse and stayed up he then thru in a bunch of pinballs into the screen to screw with me. LOVE IT.

Not a sale, but one of my absolute favorite puzzle games, Puzzlejuice, was finally updated with iPhone 5 screen support. It's two bucks and would be worth it at three times the price. It's sort of like a manic combination of Spell Tower, Tetris, Insane Game and... I dunno, something with powerups. It's a color-matching, line-erasing, word-making action puzzler with incredibly slick visual design. Definitely give it a look.

Zen Pinball Star Wars sale ended today, a day earlier than advertised. I suspect the Marvel sale will also end a day early, meaning today will be the last day of the sale. If you haven't already, grab Moon Knight as it is awesome! I ended up buying all the Marvel except World War Hulk.

Btw you may already know this, but I just learned how to share in-app purchases like Zen Pinball tables with friends/family authorized for my Apple account. I'll walk through getting my Zen Pinball tables on my mom's iPad:
 1. Authorize iTunes on Mom's computer for my Apple id.
 2. Connect Mom's iPad to computer.
 3. Logged in as me on Mom's iTunes, visit the store, download Zen Pinball, and then install it on my Mom's iPad.
 4. Disconnect Mom's iPad from computer (don't have to do this now, it just isn't necessary to be connected anymore).
 5. On Mom's iPad, launch App Store, go to Featured, then scroll to bottom where her Apple id is. Tap it and choose Sign Out, then tap again to log in under my account.
 6. Launch Zen Pinball, go to restore in-app purchases, it will ask for my Apple id password instead of Mom's.
 7. Wait for all downloads to finish, go back to App Store, sign out as me and back in as Mom.

Both of these deals were already mentioned, but they probably got lost amongst all this pinball talk, LOL.
Bastion went down from $4.99 to 99¢. I was waiting for this one to hit this price.

Bastion: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bastion/id537773100?mt=8

Edit: Bastion works only on devices with an A5 or higher (iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 5G). Glad I sprung for the iPod Touch 5G instead of the 4G.
Any other thoughts on Bastion on touchscreen vs. XBLA/PC? I was going to wait on a price drop of the XBLA version because I prefer playing via controller, but I'd consider giving this a shot.

You're right, my apologies. I missed the posts with all the pinball stuff in between (not a pinball fan). :p

I'm pretty damn annoyed with the pinball sale ending early. I tried to buy clone wars last night and it was at 1.99. I sent them a complaint on twitter. They tweeted in the last 21 hours that the sale was on for a couple more days, I think this is a mistake.

I tried Zen Pinball on my iPad, wow this is really the way to play it. Felt much better than on the iPod cause I was able to play in portrait mode and see the whole table, on the smaller screen I feel the need to play in landscape or else everything is too small.

AppZapp told me that Fetch for iPad was 2.99 but so far it hasn't dropped, so that may happen tonight. AppZapp has been known to predict drops in advance, maybe based on other regions?

I have it on my MacBook and would only use th touchpad so I didn't enjoy it.

But on my iPad it was an incredible experience. You tap where you want to go and it moves the character so you have to be a little careful at times but otherwise, it was incredible and touch controls were well done IMO.

Well Zen Pinball twitter account told me the Star Wars sale ended on the 6th. I could have sworn it said the 8th in the app store but it does show as 6th on their blog. Weird.

Bladeslinger is supposed to be $0 according to AppZapp, but is not currently.

Reliable ol Appzapp, Bladeslinger is now free, and Fetch has dropped to 2.99.

Do any of you know if the iOOTP Baseball games ever go on sale? I've never played one and I keep hearing great things about the new one, and even though it's only $5 I'd obviously rather pay less unless historically that doesn't happen.

I have bought it at the normal price this year and last year and I never spend over $.99 for a game on the App Store. It's worth every penny.

That place is amazing! I try to go everytime I'm in Vegas.

I thought the controls of Bastion on iPad were great. It's a buck. Get it.

Apparently this is in celebration for their new small-screen iPhone version Mushroom Wars Mini. It's not clear if the app will go "paid" soon, but y'all might grab it now, since it currently shows no IAP to unlock a "full game". :)
Watch it.
Are we only allowed to link to price history on appshopper and no where else? I'm biased so I would like to ask your opinions. Take Asaphalt 7 sale as example. AppSnatcher shows "Current price is the lowest price. Total 10+ days at current price, no current IAP sales."

It seems better than having to read lists of price/date changes,

I'm not sure what he's talking about. Nothing in OP says not to link to app price trackers. OP actually links a bunch himself. Did you have a personal referral code buried in the link?

Difference in this case is that it's his/her own site. Assuming there are ads on it (I don't know if there are), then he/she makes money (however small) for everyone that clicks those links. I'm not making an argument one way or the other, but the argument might be made by some that that falls under the "no affiliate links" rules.

My son got Mushroom Wars last night and played for a bit and then told me it was insisting he had to download something to keep playing the campaign. So maybe it isn't really free? I haven't had time to check it out myself yet to see exactly what he is talking about.

Is there a way to access the old thread, was looking for info on what apps people were using to track price drops or to keep lists of apps to track prices for
